Interesting fact: This was supposed to be the orginal ending to Alien where the Xenomorph killed Ripley at the end of the movie but the studio wanted a better ending in case of a sequel being made, so this is basically Ridley Scott getting his original ending for Alien in Alien Covenant but instead of a Xenomorph killing the protagonist it's David

Only thing that makes this scene not work is did she not know that the Walter version can heal? Like in the scene where David stabs Walter in the neck it self healed. She was helping "Walter" patch his wounds. Wouldn't that have been the give away that he was not David?
I dunno, I think the scene would have been far more effective if David had given a nondescript answer to her question like "Yes, of course." She goes to sleep peacefully and *then* comes the question "How about some music, Mother?"
I think the idea was to show how fucked Daniels and Tennessee are. The sudden realization of knowing you're at the mercy of a monster seconds before losing consciousness is unsettling, knowing she may as.well be deadz that the ship and all it's colonists are at his disposal. He has everything he needs for his project, this time with the bonus of having a live male to experiment with too.
This is better because of how fucked it is. The last thing he wants Daniels to experience before she goes to sleep is sheer terror. It shows how sadistic he's become.
Ya, when they got shot into space, into deep water where they explode, when a battle-tank rolls over their head, machine-guns shoot them into pieces, they suicide in transport-ships, they get blown away by predator-guns or suck out of the whole of a tiny window. Very spectacular wins. Without the help of any human (Burke) or any droid (Ash, David) they don't come far, right?
@@MrZillas. And I'm sure you know that no animal is truly indestructible, all animals must have one or more weaknesses, for Nature to keep them in Balance. There were weak moments in the film but I love how many important details this scene has. She asks him “can you help me build my cabin” even her being the nicest character, she requests something from him which is supposed to be a sweet ask but is really just another thorn in his side as he is tired of being a servant. Now she will do something for him, by being the vessel in which he can create new life. It’s a very sadistic turn from his designed role, which is to serve. Now his creators will serve him. Just as she is asking for him to build her cabin, he is going to make her build his children.
I really hope this and Prometheus get a renaissance in a few years as I really feel they are amazing sci fi movies. If you look at them from the viewpoint of films about David (which is what they were always meant to be, studio forced Scott to slap Xeno’s in it) David is a brilliantly dark and fascinating character, given the edge by the fact he is created by man. I really hope we get the third act one day, as the David character is not finished
He just would have lied. He did not lie cause she was already in the cryopod. That was heartless. He put her to sleep with her knowing she was going to get experimented on. Honestly, that was just a movie dramatic thing. If it was a real situation, he would have just lied and let her go to sleep peacefully..
The horrifying thing about is knowing if David just wanted to kill them he could have done it at anytime after they got back to ship. He only kept up the ruse to get so they’d be at his mercy, to perform his experiments.
Though I don't really think it will happen, I'd love to know what becomes of Daniels and Tennessee. And of course Michael Fassbender is great in this role so I wanna see him too. Fantastic actor. A follow up to this storyline doesn't seem likely.
I thought the film was just okay but this ending was chilling. Sure, we already knew he was David but he reveals himself to Daniels in the most dreadful way and there’s nothing she can do about it. To me, that is top tier horror.
So I might be late to the party to this, but I love the subtle detail when Daniels realizes it’s David, you can see her heart rate increase. I mean, who wouldn’t? But I like that it’s there.
There are so many holes in this, but the 2 major ones are: 1) the wound on David's face was only for the audience. That happened during the fight with Walter, that no one saw. 2) Every 'life' is unique, and acquires unique attributes. Walter and David are the same model, but have vastly different experiences. Walter would have had different reactions to crew, stood in different places, had different habits, than any other AI. Looking like someone is only good enough to get you close, but not to live with someone and fool them. They only needed to say "Walter, take your position." and watch him look around or move to the wrong spot. Shaw was closest to Walter, and they had many stories, and history together. To not catch this earlier, is bad writing.
ok so David is on the ship I've read that Alien from 1979 should follow covenant, but I didin't see David in Aien movie< so what happened to David? somebody can explain? i'm trying to watch all the movies by order
Scott was due to make Alien: Awakening a sequel to alien covenant. Third movie of this prequel trilogy but due to poor sales for covenant at the box office, it was cancelled. Awakening would have answered your question. Let's hope at some point the project is resurrected before Fassbender is too old to play David.
Exactly I want answers about the alien spacecraft where all the eggs came from, where the big engineer came from, what burst out of his chest, what happened to David after this and so on. In my mind I really feel like they should go with the story about how after this one an engineer is still alive and actually goes after David for killing pretty much his entire race but by the end there's so many aliens that the engineer has to fight off, kills David but gets one face hugger at the very end before he can take off of with spaceship and it burst through his chest and then that's the queen for aliens this sounds stupid sorry 😂 but I wanna see something end with his story. I need to know how that craft got to lv 426 and why it had 1000 eggs. That's just me, tho ( last I forgot) I would like to know if the aliens were created from the engineer, because there's a mural with a bunch of Engineers with facehuggers on them worshiping one huge ass alien in Prometheus
Now why would she let her guard down like that after what she just experienced? you would think that she’d make sure that was the real walter before she let him put her in a hyper sleep come on Daniels! She was gullible!
I might be missing something and David was able to train Walter to complete his vision even if he died, because during their fight inside, it's clear that Walter has a gash on his left cheek and some cuts on his right, before (presumably) finishing David (who didn't have the same gash or cuts on his cheek) we even see this when he jumps onto the ship with everyone while the Xenomorph was trying to board the ship. I get he could've easily changed clothes and chopped his own hand off as well, but the damages he took to the face vs Walter's don't match, so it leads me to believe. Did David program/convince Walter to complete his mission somehow during the flute scene? It just kinda left a bad taste in my mouth even though I knew what the outcome would be.
Forget the gashes. It’s all bout the hair! David’s, while cut short, was still moppier and messier than Walter’s military cut. Do they have buzzers and fine tooth combs in space? You might be on to something!
Good questions. Remember that too : Walter has ability to auto-heal himself (when David plant his throat) But apparently, the Robot at the end doesn't have. But if it's Walter : how does he knows David code (in the end) ? Why have he scratches on his face ? The same scratches he had just before the end of the fight vs David And in the same way, if it's David : how does he knows Walter Code ? And what about the eggs ? We can imagine that David had time to swallow them before fight vs Walter, but in the other case ?? One last thing, the robot choose the song "The Gods in Valhalla" which is the David's song.
@@BOLLOSSI'm quite sure he gave himself to Cuts after he grabbed the knife and killed Walter and also he's an Android of the same type maybe an older model but he still has access I'm guessing to the ships just like the new Android did in Romulus
Her dreams probably will cause her to wake up with PTSD, if she even wakes up at all. What a horrifying ending and a great one, even if it was super predictable
The scariest part is that he literally told her earlier exactly what he was going to do to her and she’s drifting off to sleep knowing that he will. If they never continue this storyline again, my headcanon is that David simply used these people to breed more Xenomorphs and because he’s such a fcking idiot so as to not be able to control them at all, they easily kill him. Either that’s the origin for the entire Xenomorph race, or David just replicated an already existing set of creatures. But it’s only natural that David be slaughtered by his own creations. He is everything wrong with all those who came before him.
Wish he would of appeared in Romulus. Hope this character reappears in future Alien Movies. In my opinion the best villain to be introduced in the Alien Franchise and is reoccurring.
Mother is the standard AI OS for all Weyland-Yutani spacecraft in-universe, and David was the personal creation and assistant of Peter Weyland, so it'd be like if all Amazon Alexa's were programmed with a code that granted Jeff Bezos' son special admin permission over any unit.

After watching the new film, now I get how David transferred his data/consciousness to Walter after they introduced a new concept with the synthetics. Although what happened to him and the colonists? Too bad they never addressed this in the new one but does have a huge connection to Prometheus.
He's david changing Walter skin, he did not recognize about building cabin in the lake and the mother ship welcoming him as a new guest. The mother ship did not calling name Walter like in the beginning. The droid use new name code david, not Walter Walter is dead and he lose during the fight.

@@RYMAN1321 good point but I enjoy it more than Alien3 and Alien Resurrection.
Due to the title I imagined David 8 crossing Daniels up on the Covenant's ball court.
He couldve played homelander and Anthony the other way around
Nah
And we never saw what happened next. This franchise is all over the place.
It was meant to be an open ending... like the end of The Empire Strikes Back, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and Avatar: The Way of Water
@@LukeLovesRose I think they meant the story-arc in Covenant might not get a sequel (apparently the next Alien is a stand-alone film). Regardless, Empire Strikes Back and Two Towers have sequels/completed storylines, even Way of the Way will get a sequel -- So I don't get your point either way!
@@LukeLovesRose Honestly we didn't need another Xenomorph rampage again. I was looking forward to seeing more of the Engineers.... oh well David killed them all due to plot convenience and Shaw died off screen.... forget everything she survived....

Only thing that makes this scene not work is did she not know that the Walter version can heal? Like in the scene where David stabs Walter in the neck it self healed. She was helping "Walter" patch his wounds. Wouldn't that have been the give away that he was not David?
did the audience catch it? I didn't. But that they made a point to show it, should have tipped off or confirmed.
@@compxx3971Doesnt matter if the audience catch it or not, the crew should know.
david was a beast
Gosh I just rewatched these two movies Prometheus and covenant they were so much better than I remember .
I dunno, I think the scene would have been far more effective if David had given a nondescript answer to her question like "Yes, of course." She goes to sleep peacefully and *then* comes the question "How about some music, Mother?"
I disagree, her horror adds a lot to the scene
I think the idea was to show how fucked Daniels and Tennessee are. The sudden realization of knowing you're at the mercy of a monster seconds before losing consciousness is unsettling, knowing she may as.well be deadz that the ship and all it's colonists are at his disposal. He has everything he needs for his project, this time with the bonus of having a live male to experiment with too.
Naw this original is better
This is better because of how fucked it is. The last thing he wants Daniels to experience before she goes to sleep is sheer terror. It shows how sadistic he's become.
I never saw David as antagonist but the creator
we all knew David was the creator
The Xenomorphs always win.
Prometheus and Covenant are my faves together with the first ever Alien movie
The only reason why I wanted to see a sequel to this was to see David get his ass ripped open like a piñata, and see Walter's revenge.
David is misunderstood.
@@MichaelF-cc8ri Misunderstood how?

I really hope this and Prometheus get a renaissance in a few years as I really feel they are amazing sci fi movies. If you look at them from the viewpoint of films about David (which is what they were always meant to be, studio forced Scott to slap Xeno’s in it) David is a brilliantly dark and fascinating character, given the edge by the fact he is created by man. I really hope we get the third act one day, as the David character is not finished
Im surprised she didnt ask this question earlier. If she did it wouldve been a smart move and davids plan might have flopped
He just would have lied. He did not lie cause she was already in the cryopod. That was heartless. He put her to sleep with her knowing she was going to get experimented on. So I might be late to the party to this, but I love the subtle detail when Daniels realizes it’s David, you can see her heart rate increase. I mean, who wouldn’t? But I like that it’s there.
Would be great to get a third film with david that leads to some closure
There are so many holes in this, but the 2 major ones are:
1) the wound on David's face was only for the audience.
They’re not the same model, did you even see the movie?
I’m a sucker for bad ending. It’s why I enjoyed Infinity War… This ending is totally fucked up.

Any answer?
My guess - there is a part two to this and David is somehow destroyed before the events of Alien(1979)
They should make him be the one looking through the telescope in the first movie
There's is supposed to be a 2nd covenant
I hope the next alien movie takes place after this one and shows what happens next.
Remember that too : Walter has ability to auto-heal himself (when David plant his throat)
But apparently, the Robot at the end doesn't have.
But if it's Walter : how does he knows David code (in the end) ?
Why have he scratches on his face ?
The same scratches he had just before the end of the fight vs David
And in the same way, if it's David : how does he knows Walter Code ?

Her heart rate went from 80 beats per minute to more than double.
Interesting that that ship responds to that clearance code?
Mother is the standard AI OS for all Weyland-Yutani spacecraft in-universe, and David was the personal creation and assistant of Peter Weyland, so it'd be like if all Amazon Alexa's were programmed with a code that granted Jeff Bezos' son special admin permission over any unit.
