    Absolutely SOLID great advice... I'm well aware.. but sometimes we need to hear it again for clarity. I'm building the exact same engine/head combo.. except with a .100 dome piston. And a oval track cam, solid 242/250 @.530 lift 106 lobe sep. For that mid torque saturation. In a street 1939 chevy truck

    Excellent video, I would highly suggest a huge disclaimer though to check and scrutinize EVERY single new/replacement part, for example if you buy loaded cylinder heads, disassemble and inspect very very carefully. There are more bad/defective parts on the market right now than there are good parts, even high dollar name brand parts have been having alot of failure and quality control issues lately. Ever since 2020 parts quality and production has hit rock bottom, soo many common parts have became discontinued or put on an indefinite backorder with no guarantee of a restock. This isn't just affecting speed/performance parts, it has been difficult to even get normal parts for modern everyday cars and the parts you can get are absolute garbage, NOS (new old stock) parts are becoming extremely sought after and prices are skyrocketing. Right now it's hard to be a hotrodder and even harder to be an engine builder or a mechanic simply due to the parts not being available or dead right out of the box, hopefully things will turn around soon but currently all aftermarket parts are sketchy.

      You 100% correct. Now with the price of the DNA castings almost doubled and the price of the other components gone up, your often better off just buying a pair of AFRs, Blueprint or darts. You can then do abit of porting to them.

    I have as comp cams xr294hr with the recommended 987 springs. Several people say that's not enough spring for the cam. I have +.100 valves, standard location 10° keepers and standard retainers. I'm thinking of going to a PAC 1218 or 1219 spring set. Do they have a 10° retainer for beehive springs? The installed height is 1.8 with the 987 springs. I know I will have to change to a spring locator, but would the beehive springs be a drop in after changing the spring seat to a spring locator and just installing the springs and retainers? I'm not sure if the retainers have the same location/height from the pocket. I hope I've experienced that well enough. I have the same heads btw

    I am building a sbc 400 with stock 5.56 rods and crank. I am using ARP main & head studs and wavelock rod bolts. The pistons are old school TRW L2352F- 030 over pistons with Sealed Power gapless rings. Do you see a problem with piston to valve clearance using a hydraulic roller cam with .510/.525 intake/exhaust lift?

    • @cuttersperformance
      @cuttersperformance  Рік тому

      Max lift isn't when the valve get close to the piston so you can't really tell by max lift numbers. It has more to do with the valve events. For the intake, the valve gets closest to the piston approx 5 to 15 degrees after TDC on the intake stroke. The ex its 5 to 15 degrees before TDC on the ex stroke. Im assuming your @.050 specs will be less than 240 with that lift, so chances are you'll have tons of clearance, but it's something that should always be checked

    Hey sir! Love your videos and Vortec stuff but I can’t seem to get a good Vortec head. I even got a set of dart iron eagles used and they have worn out valve guides. So I’m just going to order these. A couple questions I have is what intakes work with these heads? Is it like old school 1986 and pre intakes ? Or is it a Vortec style intake ? I have both lol. And also can I use my stock rockers that came off my Vortec heads? I’ll use the guide plates like you said. Just trying to save money. Also I’m using a lt4 hot cam. So I was just thinking about running ls6 springs because they are cheap. Can I use the same spring locators that you listed ?

      The dart Iron eagles are a decent head. If you go back to one of my builds "the Saturday night special" it was a 355 with iron eagles 180cc and they worked quite well. These heads are drilled from pre 86 manifolds, but some of these heads are actually drilled for vortecs as well.
      You dont want to use vortec self aligning rocker arms with guide plates. Plus the vortec rocker arms shouldn't be used past .480 lift.
      My next video coming up will be about the budget L31 using a Lt4 hotcam that I dynoed last week. Lots of info you'll probably want, and it made more power than I expected

    Hey Pat, is it ok to use springs that are a bit too much? I have a CompCam that if I use the dual springs it says use the 986-16, I have the 987-16 springs already installed on my heads, will they be too much? or do I need to cough up the money for the proper beehive springs and hardware. I have 1.5 & 1.6 roller rockers from Lunati.

      @cuttersperformance  2 роки тому

      You will have no issues with those springs and a roller cam. If they are already installed I would run them

    What type of intake gaskets did you use?

    • @ryansanchez461
      @ryansanchez461 2 роки тому

      I’m building an engine with those heads but it doesn’t wanna idle so I believe it has a vacuum leak. It’s a 355 with a eagle crank, summit flat top pistons, dna heads, 280 comp cam, same intake, same valve train setup. Sounds really good, great response time, just does not like to idle. It might be my carb but I also want to replace my intake gasket too something that fits a bit better.

    • @cuttersperformance

      They are a weird port shape. Cleaned them up to a 1206 gasket

      Longevity or HP? HP you can see the video on my channel "UA-cam 355"
      And as far as Longevity the engine is currently in a car with some decent miles on it with no issues so far

      Would you run 1.6 ratio or would the lift be too high? What do you think the maximum lift is for this setup? I’m copied everything you got part by part.

      Just did! He was certainly right going to the bigger valve. He did a nice job and is very talented.
