@@WideOldDan i believe so. Once you see an enemy flinch back, they become vulnerable for a moment to an assassination. As you said about ac1, though, it does require some luck. Because if they're too far away they'll re-engage before you can take advantage
Whilst I understand syndicate being at last, i kind of see a point in it as it requires skill to fight multiple higher level enemies when you are weaker than them giving you a real challenge and forcing you to rely on stealth not just as an option but as the only way to tackle certain areas. The games combat system forces you to either fight a hard battle or be more stealthy and experienced.
Brotherhood/Revelations is my favorite, it's very easy but really fun and satisfying, the animations are easily the best imo, it's a pretty weak combat system generally speaking, but in the franchise it's the one with the least negatives to me
I feel like the combat being to easy, in some games, due to the kill streak mechanic, could have easily been solved if there was just a limit for the amount of people you could chain between. Maybe at the start of the game you can only chain two enemies together, but as the game goes on it increases. So you can chain 4 enemies together. Either through narrative progression or skills.
Better weapons give a longer kill streak, perhaps. Or a weapon only hurts rather than kills if health is higher than damage but the streak keeps going.
I think unity and origins have the best unity for the customization and difficulty which some people found bad but it made it feel more satisfying when you have a few hours into the game and successfully wiped out the entire town square with nothing but a sword and a gun and origins for all the reasons you listed
Oh come on. Valhalla doesn't deserve number one. Enemy AI barely functions, there are less finisher animations than the fingers of my hand, if you are near the level of enemies you can literally two shot then with an ability and one attack. Out of the entire trilogy, Origin did it best, and overall, I have to agree that the top 3 should be 1, 2 and Unity. 3 felt smoother and more diverse than 4 so I was quite surprised that Black Flag was ranked higher.
How is Valhalla number 1? It got so boring and annoying after 30 hours, it got to the point where I'd just sprint at someone, do a high kick, hit them twice, dead, repeat. And the abilities aren't nearly as fun as Odyssey, the only food ones were the charging ability (yeah you needed an ability to charge your attack), the leaping one, and the kick.
I dunno. I’ve played the game through 3 times and always had fun going up against stronger enemies while playing smartly and then finding weaker enemies to fulfill a power fantasy by steamrolling them.

I changed my mind, everything is the same except valhalla moves up to the number 1 spot, having gore in ac finally is just so good, so much variety in animations and combat, animations look ducking amazing, best in the series, amazingly responsive, best weapons.
@@scarabyt that's the thing, the combo kill represents no skill whatsoever. The combat in ac 2 has zero consistency or momentum. It's either just a slow hiding and parrying game or a press on button to insta kill game. There has to be an in between. And I know that black flag and ac 3 do this, but they have better options. For example, in black flag you can do multi kills as well. In ac 3, you can use rope darts as well as tomahawks and heavy weapons, and human shields. Ac 2 literally only has two effective moves which is the chain kill and the parry. It also looks bad after a while because of the same animations being played. Ac 4 and ac 3 make chain killing and parrying at least feel fun and in character by having so many unique animations. But ac Valhalla is on another level in it's combat. I just cant put ac 2 combat anywhere near Valhallas status, that game executes viking fantasy so damn well.

Same goes for brotherhood, but in brotherhood i figured out a way to kinda do the same thing, the helmet sw0rdman guards have 3 hit combo, bl0ck their 2nd hit and press atk immediately and it does a guaranteed Critical Hit>applies stun+kncokbackneelffect>now you can instak&ll them with the same AC2 animations. there are quite a few Tedious AC2 enemies that can counter your counterk&ll really ruin the flow/style , best way to deal with them is This perfect block/ parry. it k&lls them much much faster. Honslestly this simple mechanic has saved the combat for me. otherwise it has issues, enemy h&trate is really incinsistent and sometimes go 15+ seconds without anybody att&cking or all 3 guys att&cking at once and yes they can interrupt your combo k^ll animation/perfect parry k&ll animation (not counter k&ll animation, you get s and they m&ss).
I honestly think Syndicate is one of the better AC games and I actually like the battle system. But objectively speaking, your criticism is not incorrect.

Origins combat is impactful and engaging, Valhalla combat feels like you’re pushing a button and waiting for a bar to go down so you can push down on the stick and stun kill. It simply is not engaging enough to even be remotely fun. Compare that to Origins where every single combat encounter feels good and genuinely intense, it makes all the difference.

Revelations ranks high because it manages to capture everything I like about the Kenway trilogy (mostly the power trips) and increases the difficulty with more timed inputs, making it more rewarding. Button mashing an opponent with a health meter for a sword fight is the dumbest thing ever. Sword fight should be harder but should take WAY less hits to kill an opponent. You can strike some opponents 20 plus times before they’re defeated. The first couple assassins creed games were way better.
God, Unity animations are something else. Exceptionally bad. Also, I really agree with your list, except I'd put Unity even lower, because of the animations, I just can't with that one.
He did tell us, brotherhood-3 was way too automated and easy while, though odyssey is slugish, it does have strategy I wouldn't know personally since I never played the rpg games, ac3 and the ezio trilogy 😐
I think its unfair how you say origins is good because it feels less scripted, however the only footage shown for valhalla is pre-registered finisher cutscenes. Yeah, they look good but remember for a while this was the only game that didnt have a regular sword that could be used. I feel like the combat is way too easy as well. After a while, you are just able to one shot enemies and fling them across a room. It felt jumpy and cartoony.

I'm trying to replay Odyssey, or not necessarily replay more like finally pick it up again and give it a fair shake And I'm enjoying a lot of it way more than before, except for every time I get in any kind of major combat encounter and realize that it is horrendously stacked against me to encourage me to go level up as I take like 80 slashes from a sword and dagger to kill like a wolf or something I would take syndicates combat over this every time Great video either way, that's just my current gripe
