The Vasteddi used to be good. Sadly no more. Now they warm up the ricotta, which you are not supposed to do, and they don't put Caciocavallo on it anymore. Not Good !!! Nobodyever made a better Vasteddi in New York than Vinny at La Foccaceria in the East Village. Sadly they closed about 15 years ago. I ate at least a couple Hundred Vasteddi at La Foccaceria over the years, and a whole lot in Palermo, and Vinny made them just as good and even better than some in Palermo. Nobody could touch him. It really makes me sad that Ferdinandos's doesn't make a good one anymore, but facts are facts. Joe's Avenue U is pretty good, but no-one could ever beat Vinny's "Best Vastedda NYC All-Time" !!! I love the history and the ambiance, but they’re not as good as before. The vastedda sandwich has a lot less ricotta. I much prefer Joe’s of Avenue U.
