    Never in my life have I successfully removed a harness pin without destroying the harness connector, or the pin, or both. After watching this, I made a tool out of a piece of stainless steel from a hose clamp. My son and I then used it to remove 6 pins from the drivers front door harness in my mothers 96 Accord. We were able to then reconnect all 6 pins to their wires, and reinstall them into the connector, and get everything working again. Hats off to you!

If my locks work and my passenger window rolls up faster I'll be jumping for joy!! Thank you sir for explaining this to woman who never got taught about cars!!! 👍👍😃👏

    Did this on a 99 civic lx. Ran into two blue wires with white lines so I guessed and spliced them. Tested everything out and seemed to work just fine. Blue with white line were the amp power supply for the radio is what I was told. After about an hour of driving it I started messing with my power mirrors and figured out that if I try to go up with the mirror it locks the doors haha so if you come across the same thing I did make sure you check the power mirrors. Thanks for the vid

      @@pigcreations6357 I’m assuming it’s the two blue wires with white lines are spiced together wrong. Look and see if you have two of the same wires and flip flop them I’m sure that’s what it is. I used liquid tape and a lot of electrical tape to seal it up and didn’t realize I spliced them wrong until 2 days later. Doesn’t bother me so I don’t plan on flipping them

    Working on an 01 CR-V with the same connector and a broken wire at the pin for the window motor. Someone filled the connector with conductive grease so I couldn’t see anything. This video saved the day, thanks for publishing!

    • @RustBeltAuto

      That is factory silicone grease. They probably do that for corrosion resistance. It is neither a conductor, or an insulator. Just like a silicone micro chip. Silicone is semi-conducting.

    This is the best video on youtube about this common Honda problem from this vintage. I've owned my '98 CRV for just over 24
    years(and 296K miles) and I've been without the power door locks for at least ten years. It hasn't been the family vehicle for quite awhile as it's just my daily driver these days and I've learned to live with it. Everything else works so it hasn't been a big deal. The only other problem is the driver's window is slow when it's closing but I've always attributed it to a slowly dying motor or simply the track needs to be regreased. Now I'm wondering if the wire has been significantly compromised and the resistance is high. Kudos for a detailed, common-sense method to tackle this problem. I also like the idea of using liquid tape to strengthen the wires near the connector.

    For split non-insulated butt splices, I've read that you should crimp it so the tool bears down on the opposite side of the split. About soldering... it's a problem to solder stranded wire because it wicks down the strands and makes the joint brittle. Especially in a situation like this, soldering isn't the best joint.

    Hey my 98 civic inside the distributor there was rust and corrosion on the terminals for the ignitor and coil causing intermittent misfire. So I cleaned them all up and coated them with very light dielectric grease. Think that’ll help prevent that from happening again?

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  5 місяців тому

      Probably not. Using grease on electronics is a controversial subject, because it is a semi-conductor, and traps moisture. Best to make sure it is sealed, kept dry, and has a way to drain.

      People do it all the time. I see people teach how to's about It on UA-cam. It is amateur hour. It is not a problem, until it is a problem. If things start to melt, and smoke, it might be time to re-do it. If you're lucky it will be fine. You should see the nightmares I have delt with on custom Harley's. They solder everything. Seems to me that somebody should sell individual wire with the pin connector already attached on one end. Like the wires you pulled out of the salvage pin block. I can buy a whole block with all the wires connected for $40 to $80, but then I have to cut all the wires off and splice all of them to use it. I think I will buy it and just pull a wire or two out of it to use in my old pin block. I looked around and couldn't find any individual wires.

    Solder don't cause resistance. Shitty solder jobs do.

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  2 роки тому +1

      Wrong. Every connection causes resistance. The heat expands everything, and solder goes in-between the two surfaces, causing more resistance, and a higher failure rate in wire connections versus ordinary crimped wire to wire connections, or ultrasonic welding. That is why you never see any solder on any factory wire connections. It is only used on things like circuit boards to attach wire to foil on a board.

    • @CotyRiddle
      @CotyRiddle 2 роки тому

      @@RustBeltAuto you might want to do some study. resistance is heat no shit but solder in it's self does not create the resistance is is a metal alloy that is highly conductive. and you do not see solder on factory connections becasue serviceability. solder is more of a permenant situation.
