I think NVIDIA set the voltage limit low for the 4070, similar to the 4060 and 4050, because these GPUs are intended for thin and light laptops that have limited thermal capacity. The 4080 and 4090, on the other hand, were designed for larger laptops with better cooling capabilities. Despite this design intention, OEMs often opt to use the lower-powered 4070 in larger laptops to maximize sales, even though these systems are better suited for the more powerful 4080 and 4090. This decision is driven by profitability, as the less expensive 4070 GPUs sell more units, generating higher revenue for OEMs
Very good performance in games is not a coincidence. The 330W power supply helps achieve this. The good thing is that it is not limited by a weak power supply. You can always use PD on the go 👌
My previous TUF laptop had a 240 W charger and the battery drained when CPU + GPU exceeded 150 W. This laptop is drawing more than that so it actually might lead to drain with a 240 W like Jarrod recommended.
The 330W power supply won't even increase the performance by 1% over a 230W one. The chasis just being big and a good thermal design is what gives it the performance
@@elderman64 Correct but it will lead to the battery draining in 3 hours while gaming if it's drawing the 170 W it is. Manufacturers never let the CPU and GPU consume the full wattage of the AC adapter. My Legion 5i Slim 2022 would have battery drain if the power went over 140 W with its 230 W so I returned it.
@@elderman64 I've gone through 4 different gaming laptops from different brands and had battery drain issues with every single one. It's definitely not a specific model issue, just a limitation of gaming laptops. I'm not saying it ruins the experience, but that people should have option to get a big power brick if they want the best performance without ruining their battery.

Please avoid buying low end laptops especially low end gaming laptops, for your own good, if only you knew how bad some of them can be. Low end "budget" gaming laptops are notorious for having terrible build quality (i.e. hinges breaking, terrible screens that's so dim you can barely see how bad it looks, etc...), Horrible thermals design that constantly over heats and have extremely low power components that struggle to play even light games on lower settings. I once had an Acer Nitro 5 and one day the hinge literally blow up and break the screen it wasn't fun to deal with... If you want to use a gaming laptop that can actually handle playing games I would avoiding anything that's below a 4070 and an 13th gen i7 and if you plan on doing any intensive productivity tasks or playing any triple A games then you would need at least a 4080. I got decent a gaming laptop for around 1900$ for christmas and even with a laptop that's way beyond the low end ones your looking at it still has some big issues. My advice to you is to get a higher tier laptop I would personally suggest a laptop with a 4080 or a 4090(make sure you get a laptop with a 150W version). With 4080 or 4090 equipped laptop you will get desktop-like performance (I have a gaming laptop with a 4080 and I can attest to this). Dang, that reminds me of my work laptop weight wise. I've been spoiled by the zephyrus g15, 4lbs vs 6 is a big difference. Looks nice apart from that, although 4070 is a no go for me.
Got the Helios Neo 16 now, the battery life is really bad. But changing the refresh rate to 120 Hz nearly doubles the battery life. An automatism would be nice, but I don't need the 240 Hz anyways.
You will never hear this unless you yourself want to. And why would you. I usually keep mine at the Balanced profile (2024 Neo 16 w/ 4070 and 14900HX), and as someone who loathes noise, I'm quite content with the levels on this one.
I hope the Acer model becomes a sleeper hit. This is amazing performance comparable to some i9s shows how much they tweaked the laptop... it's like a Toyota Supra in it's current state, clear and assuming overachiever. P.S In afterthought though 8 gb VRAM is too low for 2024 but that is Nvidia's problem i guess mostly.
I dont know what people get by lying about for how much they purchased, but these days, its a new trend on UA-cam as if some greatness was achieved !!!
I had this laptop, but I returned it because the temperature on the CPU was always at 99 degrees. Didn't matter what game I played, if I maxed out the fans, it was always at 99 degrees. It was throttling a lot and I had massive frame drops.

Doesn't battery saving kick in automatically unplugged? Without this review I would have been stoked seeing 90Wh, there must be some way to prevent this huge battery being redundant?

@@RusyaidiDzulkifli I agree and I like how the acer icon under the screen was changed from silver to black so it blends in. Anyone try the magclick keys? I tried them and they are nice and giver faster response but they aren't usable, about one out of 10 presses doesn't register especially the W key largely because of how the fingers lay and press more at an angle on that key. I wish they worked but they are utterly useless for gaming because they aren't reliable. I verified they were correctly attached fully while trying them too. I might just try using the a and d keys only.

ADDENDUM: The service center here actually charged me for the resurfacing of the liquid metal when it should have been under warranty due to the poor factory application. It is not a perishable nor has it even been time to replace it at all as it is practically brand new still. I was even questioned by the center on why my laptop has liquid metal in the first place, THRICE. I have owned the 2023 model for about 6 months now as it was on a Trade-In sale for about $500 off in my country; From BND$2059 to BND$1888 as a year end sale, to BND$1590 if you traded in any old laptop or devices. My only gripe here is the improper liquid metal application and the subpar Acer support in my country. They had butchered the liquid metal and actually created a spill within the heatsink. I had it sent it off to my friend who professionally redid the liquid metal and it actually works better now, provided that I have to set the fans as the stock ones are too slow to respond to high temps. If 2024's Liquid Metal application is better nowadays, then it is a laptop I will definitely recommend for a long while. Cheers, and good video!

But I don't know if it is the best choice (I think the current price of the laptop is like that because of its release in 2024, and I would like to know if I can find a laptop with the same components but at a lower price)
The problem with Linux compatibility with Predator is that, fans are not PWM. Meaning, they are not controllable from anywhere except predatorsense software. I have 2023 model rtx 4050, i7. Everything is awesome, but when I use linux for development, it just becomes hotter and hotter while fans sit at idle. Major inconvenience. The new 2024 model is not yet released here in the Philippines, the price will be at least P80,000 (or US$1,360) with an i5 14th gen variant with an RTX 4050 graphics card. Got the Helios Neo 16 now, the battery life is really bad. But changing the refresh rate to 120 Hz nearly doubles the battery life. An automatism would be nice, but I don't need the 240 Hz anyways.
What cheap gaming laptop do you suggest? That runs fortnite on 200 fps?
Me: Mum can we have a aeroplane?
Mum: We have a aeroplane at home.
The aeroplane at home: 9:50
Otherwise yes definitely a solid overall laptop.
You will never hear this unless you yourself want to. And why would you. I usually keep mine at the Balanced profile (2024 Neo 16 w/ 4070 and 14900HX), and as someone who loathes noise, I'm quite content with the levels on this one.
if u set in performance mod + auto fan, be little quite sound and get better performe under 80 celcius
@@PragmaticTornadowhat were the temps in balanced 😮
If u wear a pair of over-the-ear headphones, even without ANC, a lot of the noise would be blocked.
No company anywhere is giving lots of anything on anything these days you will still be making payments on most crap long after it breaks down.
I can lower my screen to 60 fps so your wrong there lol. 3rd video I watch on this channel and information is inaccurate
Just wanted to thank you for the Linux compatibility section. It really does mean a lot to us.
Hello Jarods Can You make a Video about how to clean laptop screen properly Im scared of cleaning the screen it might damage the oleophobic coating
I dont know what people get by lying about for how much they purchased, but these days, its a new trend on UA-cam as if some greatness was achieved !!!
That's been social media for many years.
Embellishing accomplishments or purchases.
you can get a 230w charger brick if you want more portability.
been using that for office work for a month now and it's all good.
Yoo Jarrod, how are you doing today? Great video btw 👍
I had this laptop, but I returned it because the temperature on the CPU was always at 99 degrees. Didn't matter what game I played, if I maxed out the fans, it was always at 99 degrees. It was throttling a lot and I had massive frame drops.
I bought this laptop with i9 14900HX processor with 4060 graphics. I am little concerned about the heat as the CPU tends to go to 55-70 degree Celsius while just using chrome or doing minimal task.
Was it the same with your device ?
@@rikeshmaharjan350 pretty much the same. That’s what happens when they leave the CPU unlocked.
Doesn't battery saving kick in automatically unplugged? Without this review I would have been stoked seeing 90Wh, there must be some way to prevent this huge battery being redundant?
Are you going to make a review on the predator helios 18 2024?
Great video
Just wanted to say since the new graphics driver update just cam out and the 105w limitation is unlocked
Can you please now make a video of it comparing it to the desktop 4060 and the older version
Thank you so much❤
Last year's version would fit double sided SSD only in one slot. Is it some upgrade or can you probably double-check?
Hey jarrod can you do a review on msi katana 15? I want to hear your thoughts about it
We'll see, trying to get some stuff from MSI at the moment.
please also do a review of PREDATOR HELIOS 16 not the neo it comes with with i9 14900hx and RTX 4070 base variant , also please bring ROG STRIX G16 with i9 14900hx and RTX 4070
Acer don't seem to want to send it for some reason, we've been asking but haven't had the Helios (non neo) for 2 years now.
@@JarrodsTech oh ok
but please do bring ROG Strix G16 (2024) i9 14900hx and 4070
Finally another Acer laptop review! Also, looking at the design at 0:25 this is one of the few times where I actually prefer the design of the previous year’s model. I actually like the blue hinges on the back. :(
I liked this year's model more, it's less gamey and look more professional
@@RusyaidiDzulkifli I agree and I like how the acer icon under the screen was changed from silver to black so it blends in. Anyone try the magclick keys? I tried them and they are nice and giver faster response but they aren't usable, about one out of 10 presses doesn't register especially the W key largely because of how the fingers lay and press more at an angle on that key. I wish they worked but they are utterly useless for gaming because they aren't reliable. I verified they were correctly attached fully while trying them too. I might just try using the a and d keys only.
I have the 2023 version with 13500HX, 16gb and 4050
So far going real good
Agreed, bought mine refurbished directly from Acer. Heavy laptop, but a steal for under $700. 4050 has been fine. Screen is exceptional. Upgraded the RAM and WiFi for cheap. Great budget gaming laptop. Wish they went with a smaller PS. That thing is a brick.
I bought this laptop with i9 14900HX processor with 4060 graphics. I am little concerned about the heat as the CPU tends to go to 55-70 degree Celsius while just using chrome or doing minimal task. Is this normal ?
Is my unit damaged?
Which is better option between this and lenovo legion 5i 2024?
I'd go for the acer. I'm on my second legion 5i so many issues with it.
what abt i5 gen 14 RTX 4060 variant? its enough for rendering and 3d moddeling architect?
Is it recomanded win 11 on this product?
Yes, that is the best option for Intel 12th gen and newer.
There is no right Ctrl in this model. This is very inconvenient for me. How can I fix this?
I'm thinking about buying this for 2D art, 2D animation, and 3D animations
Should be covered. Is the RAM expandable?
Regarding battery life: my 2022 Predator Helios runs about twice as long on Linux (Manjaro) than under Windows. Maybe that would help the Neo 16 too.
I wish the Predator software offered FAN CURVES and not static RPM settings
Anybody knows a third party compatible app coz I can't find any that works with this (using 2023 version)
Are you going to review the Snapdragon powered laptops??
They're not gaming laptops
@@iz723 i know but they might be game changing, he should review those too
Based on the reviews that have come out they're not game changing and only slightly better than Core Ultra/Ryzen 8000 laptops (and nowhere near HX laptop performance)
@@nocommentarygaming2644 true but they just launched those cpus and they are there to compete with the macs, so i would say gaming performance right now isn't the focus. I just want windows to compete with macs in productivity and battery life
@@nocommentarygaming2644 The benefits are in efficency not power
Dude, Dark Oath AND Insomnium tshirts? Fuck yes.
Please listen to every Be'lakor albums!
I have a budget of 1200-1300 euros and I want to buy a laptop, specifically the ASUS TUF Gaming F16 (2024) (FX607JU-N3069) model. But I don't know if it is the best choice (I think the current price of the laptop is like that because of its release in 2024, and I would like to know if I can find a laptop with the same components but at a lower price)
Thanks god this is not OLED. I will never buy OLED because of terrible PWM flickering.
Asus rog or Aser predator??? and why?
The Predator is cheaper and has a mini LED screen.
I own a Strix gaming laptop and ASUS laptops have dropped in quality as of late. In my opinion.
Other than this, everything is awesome and is definitely recommended
I like you youtube channel. 👍👍👍
I love laptop 💓😘. I don't have enough money to buy it. 🤑😓😢😭😟
But I will try to buy it sometime ✊
Damn I bought last years model few months ago... And this one definitely have better design and looks more expensive aside from design I hope performance wise there's not big of a difference because I can't return and bought the newer one 😢
hi, i have a question about the cpu wattage limit they introduced this year, is it limited to 60w also the i9 14900hx version ? hope someone can answer
please review the acer helios predator rtx 4080 18inches 😂😂😂
planning to buy it next month
Hey Jarrod we need a handheld vs laptop
Like the one you did before
Rog ally vs rog stuff or something
I bought a several Ally's because of that Video 😂😂😂❤🎉
I got a huge brick too even with last year model with 13500hx and rtx4050.
Hi, do you know how the LEDs behind the monitor turn on? I've seen several photos around where those LEDs turn on and I would like to understand if it's a manufacturing defect. Thanks friend
is it just me or does - taking everything into account - build, price, performance, keyboard, quality, quality control, service etc. etc. - lenovo just make by far the best laptops? im really scared to go with anyone else or who is generally on the same level (and please dont say razer, their quality control is abysmal)
picked this up yesterday upgrading from a 2020 ideapad gaming. this thing is 👍👍👍
Can it do undervolt? I read reddit, among all HX processor just Acer can't do UV, is it true?
Quite proud of my hellos 300 3070ti 12th gen Intel. Don't get the Acer hate!
Look this may be a silly question, I don't know lol but will this run WoW dragonflight with maxed out graphics options running off wifi, and pplugged into wall socket with no issues?
I don't understand, why you don't benchmark laptops with 1600p?
I bought this laptop with i9 14900HX processor with 4060 graphics. I am little concerned about the heat as the CPU tends to go to 55-70 degree Celsius while just using chrome or doing minimal task. Is this normal.
Actually there are many confugrations in bios. But you need unlock advantage settings .
Press Fn+tab , then press power button . Stop pressing fn+tab after 3 seconds . Now advantage settings will unlock
Does this laptop have Bluetooth? It's not listed as having Bluetooth capability on the sites I found it.
Yes it has bluetooth
are you going to review the legion slim yoga 7x with the snapdragon soc ?
I hope you do, not all reviews should be about gaming laptops, sometimes about mac or sometimes about new things like this lenovo...
If anyone is wondering about how to keep this laptops longevity strong: Game using a gaming monitor and use your laptops LED panel for casual web surfing and office or school use. Due to high gaming demand I put on my CyberpowerPC gaming laptop the LED panel gave out and so now I use a gaming monitor to game, office apps, and casual web surfing.
I don't want a gaming PC so I am here to see if this Acer Helios Neo 16 is worth buying at MSRP or wait until discount comes.
I think they changed the screw types to Torx screws because they're less likely to strip.
I tend to strip them more lol
Hey Jarrod i need your suggestion please.
Should i go for legion 5i with core i7 rtx 4070 or core i9 rtx 4070?
I’ll be using the laptop mostly for gaming purposes.
in ubuntu can you control fan speed both cpu and gpu? if yes I'm not afraid to load docker and other development tools
Bro u should review 4080 version
Will you review the Legion Pro 7i with RTX 4090? It's on sale right now for $2600 usd post tax with 32gb ram and 2 tb ssd.
Why this laptop does not have adaptive refresh rate screens?
Is it that expensive to make them?
G-Sync is adaptive refresh rate.
@@saturnotaku i mean with iGPU to save power, not in game
I am only seeing this available with Windows 11 Home. Is it possible to get that upgraded to Pro? I do not want the so-called Copilot Fake AI features on at all in any way.
Hello Jarrod can you please review Acer Predator Triton Neo 16.
Watching this from my Helios Neo 16 but with a 14650 - 4060, it's an excellent laptop, use it mainly for editing.
Is it good? For gaming and hows the display?
@@dnz2208 The display is excellent actually, no OLED but for an IPS it's very good.
As for gaming, it's acceptable depending on your needs. I play at 1440p on a main monitor, have to dial back some settings and use DLSS frame gen but able to play diablo 4 just fine.
can you do Predator Helios Neo 14 ?
I was thinking to buying it but I cant find any youtube reviews. it seem so underated
The new 2024 model is not yet released here in the Philippines, the price will be at least P80,000 (or US$1,360) with an i5 14th gen variant with an RTX 4050 graphics card. Many customers would have the previous model to buy and its inexpensive, or add P1,000 for the RTX 4060 variant.
I'm an ACER user since 2009.
you could improve the chart readability by swapping the color legend place.
Its always a fun time watching laptops i dont have the money to buy.......btw love acer laptops too great video
im going to get my one tomorrow , I9-13900HX , RTX 4070 , 16GB RAM , 1TB SSD
Which one is the better version, the i5-14500HX or last year's i7-13700HX?
