allgoldproductions all true, but it has to be said, Tony should have stepped into the NY conflict a lot more carefully than he did. John even told Tony he blamed Tony in large measure for the power struggle between himself and Little Carmine when Tony flew to Florida to meet with Lil C, effectively legitimizing Carmine with many in the family as John pointed out to Tony. That should have been the warning shot to Tony not to get in the middle of the Lupritozzi conflict, at least not for a while, because things were bound to spin out of control and anyone standing nearby had a good chance of getting the blame and that’s exactly what ended up happening. I know everyone loves the “I have cable” “men are talking” and “varsity athlete” lines but for me what makes this scene great is when Junior says having 2 bosses isn’t what it’s cracked up to be and Tony’s reaction to that 😂
It never made sense to me as to why there was so much confusion as to who Carmine's successor would be. Johnny Sac was the underboss, plain and simple, and as the underboss he is positioned as next in line to succeed in the event that the current boss dies or becomes ill and is otherwise unable to continue in his position. Underboss is equivalent to the U.S. Vice President in this regard, and typically he'll be acting boss if the boss is incarcerated for any considerable length of time, that's how powerful his position is. Just because Little Carmine is the boss's son doesn't automatically mean he should be involved in the succession, and if Carmine intended on his son succeeding him then he should have positioned him as the underboss to the family, that would have eliminated any succession crisis.
@@mysteryjunkie9808 Yeah, but then Tony says “Oh yeah? Which day was that?” Essentially saying to Feech “that’s bullshit and you know it.” The son inherits thing has never been the rule, though it might put someone in the running and be a factor in their favour. But neither is it as straightforwards as the Underboss inherits, no matter what. As I understand the official rules, when a boss dies, the captains are supposed to agree who will be boss between them. Generally, the underboss will be the leading candidate, but it’s no guarantee.
It does happen. When Carlo Gambino died, the reigns of the Gambino Family should have been given to Neil Dellacroce. He was passed over in favour of Paul Castellano, who was Carlo's cousin and brother-in-law.
@@mrmartinshistoryandenglish5605 That did happen. But, Neil Dellacroce and Paul Castellano jointly held the position of Underboss under Don Carlo. From what I have seen, there was a blue collar/white collar split of responsibilities between them. But yes, family ties did make Gambino select his relative. But - it was not his son. It was a relative who was already a high ranking member. So it still doesn’t really support the “son inherits automatically” theory. Family ties are a factor, but far from the only one, or even the most important. Plus, Gambino named Big Paul as his successor, which is a different situation as to the Lupertazzi situation, where the question is, what happens when the Boss dies without having named a successor. I don’t think there is a clear precedent for either the son or the underboss inheriting, though both of these connections will factor into the decision. But I believe, under the Commission rules, it is down to a vote of the Captains. Obviously, this is highly political, and the power of the candidates will factor into who wins, so their existing ties to the preceding boss will be in play, but just one potential factor among many. There is quite a bit of info on this in relation to Gotti taking over the Gambino Family. After the Castellano hit, they gathered all the Captains together and got them to vote Gotti the new boss. Officially, he could not just take over. There had to be a vote of the Captains. But, they set it up so the Captains didn’t really have any choice. There would have been consequences for a wrong vote…
When tony brought up the power sharing to Johnny, he lies and says Angelo came up with the idea after Johnny flips out which ends up being the reason Angelo gets whacked in the first place lmao
Nah he's just a raging narcissist who doesn't care unless the problems are about him, then he's happy to monologue. As a boss he got worse and worse each season until the whole thing imploded because of his alienation and murder of all his best men. Only ones he didn't waste were Bobby and Sil which is specifically why they died.

He's objectively better at this stuff than Tony. When it doesn't involve him he's incredibly astute at mob politics, he failed as a boss because his own vanity and insecurity clouded his judgement but as a outside third party he's exceptionally good, by now dementia was hitting him unfortunately.
Though I realize we mainly just get the Jersey perspective, I do sometimes wonder what members of the other New York families make of what's going on and how they influence things off screen.
Junior was right. Tony didn't have the makings of a varsity athlete. Tony lied to Johnny about his "power sharing" idea by pinning it on Angelo and getting him killed.
Actually, The Gambino Family, Lucchese Family, & Genovese Family were using a “ Ruling Panel “ type structure to run the family. Angelo was killed primarily because Johnny knew Angelo & Rusty were the real power behind Little Carmine as well as ordering the Joe Peeps hit.
Good move by Tony bringing up Angelo's grandson to try and seal the deal, shows he wasn't disregarding him earlier despite wanting to get down to business

And allegorical
Santos was a wonderful actor in every show he was in.
@@mikechialastri7777 The common denominator was David Chase writing for both shows,he brought in actors he was comfortable with
@@yefenofphoto didn't know Chase wrote for Rockford files that I think was a very underrated show it was actually quite good. James garner and Santos were excellent.
I like how Tony tries to help by saying they should have a council of 3 leaders... this way he can just play them against each other 😂
I think Tony was really just trying to keep the peace. Them fighting in general, wouldn't exactly be great business wise for New Jersey. This was one of Tony's worse ideas though. Like Johnny would ever go for it.
I know everyone loves the “I have cable” “men are talking” and “varsity athlete” lines but for me what makes this scene great is when Junior says having 2 bosses isn’t what it’s cracked up to be and Tony’s reaction to that 😂
“Well anyway” I love how Tony undermines Angelo 😂😂
I have been saying “eat like a pharaoh” for years now because of this scene.
If you have close caption on it sees “I eat like a feral...”
But do you have cable?
@@marks.6480 better than that. He has soft drinks of choice.
I have hulu
“Well anyway…here we all are” Tony like I ain’t got time to hear this bullshit😂🤣
Because “remember when” is the weakest form of conversation.
Tony constantly touching his nose as he sells angelo on his idea, makes me think he is knowingly playing him
This.
“Men are talking here” 😂😂
Tony was truly the villain in this show
Tony pitched this to Angelo one way but made it sound like Angelo's idea to John. Leading to Angelo's whacking.
Angelo got whacked for sicking Tony B onto Joey Peeps.
Johnny Sac's response: WHAT'S THIS THE FUCKING UN NOW!?!?! 🤣
Junior looks like Larry David if he was in the Mafia!
This had zero chance of working. I just remember Johnny Sack responding with "What's this? The fucking U.N. now?"
I guess Tony forgot that this thing was set up like a paramilitary organization, with a supreme commander at the top, and not the Dave glock 5!
dave clark
These clips are addicting. Such a great show
It never made sense to me as to why there was so much confusion as to who Carmine's successor would be.
Yeah which is why Johnny Sack won it. But some old timers like Feech said “Back in my day it would’ve went to Little Carmine he was the Bosses son”
@@willmosse3684 fair point bud. You know your stuff.
"Maybe we could have a share the Shinebox situation"
Tony and Sil knew what they were thinking
"Jason, men are talking here." Hilarious.
"Three bosses. Triumva thing. Like Caesar"
What Is THIS, *THE FUCKING U.N. !?*
You have quoted a line from the clip
These greaseballs never had the makings of a varsity Triumvirate.
Regular history buff that Tony
When tony brought up the power sharing to Johnny, he lies and says Angelo came up with the idea after Johnny flips out which ends up being the reason Angelo gets whacked in the first place lmao
Let’s not get into that right now....😂😂 that was gold. In the midst of another family’s problem their own family issues get dragged out for no reason.
That pigmy thing in Jersey.
Junior always makes me feel better about my relatively insignificant three year career as a high school varsity athlete.
Tony getting Angelo killed by telling Johnny the power sharing was angelo's idea when in this scene it shows it was his lmao
"A triumva-somethin'...like Caesar."
What I was thinkin was make it like the fuckin' Dave Clark Five.
Tony never had time for small talk ...TRU BOSS
No no, Tony was a terrible boss.
Na, just an asshole.
@@danielyoung6778 you are so right he never wants to hear other people's problems
nah he was a selfish prick towards the end
Tony was always the smartest guy in the room.
Angelo to Tony: Well you're close to John, you have any idea's?
Junior: What are you asking him for? he never the makings of a varsity athlete..
(Awkward silence)
Angelo: Your point being what junior?
Tony: Oh no forget it he's just breaking ball's.
Me: 💀
He never EVEN had the makings of a varsity athlete*
And the Junior just sits there like a statue.
Angelos reactions to Jr’s comments are priceless 😂
Junior's hand gesture as he says "believe you me" cracks me up.
“Jason, men are talking here!!” Jason must have felt like shit after that.😂😂
Who's talking, is someone talking?
He shouldn't have even been at this meeting.
He's literally her bitch. I think there's surely money involved.
His dick became an inny.
This is where that quote came from. Omfgggg
Juinor says it multiple times in the series. He's said it in prior seasons.
LEGENDARY
Did Don Borko give this an Okay?
Did they even have a sitdown, with Don Borko?
@@starguy2718
I heard they serve cheese on the radiator with the Don
Why did they even bother bringing junior out at this point ? He's as boss as i am! 😂
Junior was the front boss, knew Angelo, and was still being kicked up to by the capos.
NY always respected Junior so he was involved in a lot of their sit downs
He's objectively better at this stuff than Tony. When it doesn't involve him he's incredibly astute at mob politics, he failed as a boss because his own vanity and insecurity clouded his judgement but as a outside third party he's exceptionally good, by now dementia was hitting him unfortunately.
Always made me laugh angelo went to jersey for help instead of another new york family
That's what i hate about the sopranos showing us just one NY family😭😭
Though I realize we mainly just get the Jersey perspective, I do sometimes wonder what members of the other New York families make of what's going on and how they influence things off screen.
Well the show is about the Sopranos which is a Jersey based family. It obviously greatly exaggerates their influence and clout.
@@patrickmorrissey3084 The Sopranos are largely based on the Boiardo family, which had a great deal more respect and influence.
@@histguy101 No, they are losely based on the DeCavalcante family.
If there's one thing that Tony has no patience for, it's small talk lol
Interesting watching this again, this is when it dawned on everyone that junior was really no more.
"He couldn't fucking sell it."
He is not respected
Jason never had the makings of a varsity man
Yeah, what a coward.
I love how on the one video where he actually makes the varsity athlete remark nobody is commenting about it
I was amused by the whole thing, but spit my drink out when he made the varsity comment again. XD
Stay in retirement Angelo! Don’t listen to them
0:21 how Tony interrupts Angelo is hilarious
Good move by Tony bringing up Angelo's grandson to try and seal the deal, shows he wasn't disregarding him earlier despite wanting to get down to business
Angelo Garepe never had the makings of a wartime consigliere
Angelo Garepe neva had the makings of a varsity retiree
No matter the situation, there's always time to break balls.
Y’know it wasn’t long ago I remember you used to wait in the car...& As Far As I’m Concerned, *YOU Should STILL BE THERE!*
I love how Tony is just confused here rather than angered.
Jason: “Potential, They almost killed us”
Junior: “WHO’S THAT SPEAKING HERE, IS SOMEBODY SPEAKING.”
LOLOL
Never had the makings of a varsity athlete
Christian Spar: Yeah? He was the one who mentioned an efficacious management model which wash quite smart by the way. All Junior had to “weigh-in” was the Varsity bullshit!
Depending how you see the ending everyone accept junior in that room has been murdered.
Tony's idea is what got Angelo whacked. He told Johnny the idea and it didnt go over, so Tony, not wanting to make waves with Johnny said it was all Angelo's idea about the power sharing.
Junior with the varsity athlete never fails lmao.
The acting from Dominic Chianese is phenomenal here. You'd think he actually has early onset dementia here
Tony not having the makings of a Varsity athlete,
*shrugs
whatever happened there...
Keep spamming these maybe it'll get funny some day
Your point being what, Junior?
I loved that!
So did Tony.
What is the fucking UN now? - Johnny Sack upon hearing the suggestion from this meeting.
