For those of you who don't know the story behind Tal moving his pawn from C6 to C5 was that Fischer said in an interview that the Soviets were afraid to play the Sicilian against him and they only used the Caro-Kann to defend against Fischer. But Tal was not scared to challenge Fischer to a Sicilian game and he decided to troll Fischer a bit by playing C6 then C5.
Fischer was much younger then, but they are both beautiful people. No wonder they understood each other very well later on. Human behaviour beyond all political idiotism.
Maybe Tal got so sick from Soviet arm twisting destroying his immunity. Like Spassky said of the "Fischer Fear" and Soviet 'dragging them to the carpet,' if they lost to Fischer.

I am not interested in after-made background stories and interpretations concerning Bobby Fischer. And I am not interested in the political attitudes of his mother. In my opinion Fischer was a chess genius, who was not really involved in politics. He sat over the board with Fidel Castro, travelled through the Soviet Union to play and to get literature about the Soviet chess world, and he visited Michail Tal in hospital. "I am stll under the shock of this loss for the chess world. In my view Bobby Fischer was the most honest person in chess history. He fought against organizers and the media more than against me. He never made politics. He was a very pure personality. He could be tough from outside, but inside of him he was pure like a crystal. Very pure. " (Boris Spasski) That is what his friend Boris Spasski said about him, and he should know. To me it is a shame how Fischer was treated by his homeland. All he did was to play chess. If the Soviets has treated one of their players like this, the West would have called him a 'freedom fighter'.
Tal is funny , Fischer once said “ Soviets are cowards because they play Caro-Kann defence C6 against e4 , but Tal pretended he will play C6 then advanced the pawn to C5 , giving Fischer indirect message saying “ I am not coward “
Just a bit of context. In this candidates tournament basically every russian player went for the Caro-Kann aganist Fischer, indeed he was struggling against it and he said that the russian ware affraid to play a sicilian against him. So Tal, a mad lad taht loves attacking chess and open board, fakes a Caro-Kann (c6) and then played a Sicilian (c5), saying "we can have fun".
You gotta know a little bit about chess openings and about these two champion's playing style to enjoy this video. Tal is the craziest attacking player and tactical genius that ever lived. When he fakes the Caro Kahn with c6 he basically trolls Fischer saying: "positional game?", then pushes c5 as to state: "hell no, I'm going full tactical, what did you think?!"
More than that, in this Candidates Tournament (1959), all the USSR players were playing the Caro-Kann against Fischer, which he was unhappy about. So this was another layer to the joke
Well as per as I know ... Its from the 1959 candidates tournament ... Bobby challenged that no Soviet can play Sicilian again his e4 as he won almost all games again the same ... But Tal took the challenge and not only played Sicilian but won against Bobby. ...

Amazing smile of Tal. And great video footage too, I especially like the camere man transition from Tal to Fischer, and how Fischer 'reacted'. And the choice of music for the clip is great too, good taste!
Tal looks scary in this video. Something about his dark complexion. It’s like a crossover episode where one character has a completely different animation style.
Is Tal pretending to play Caro Kann while continuing with the Sicilian ? Took a while for me to get the humour of the situation. Tal and Fischer became friends later on, they made friends over all political borderlines. Real sportsmen.
@Davi Moreira It was the opposite. Fischer had been playing horribly against the caro-kann in this tournament which was employed by all the soviets and so Tal was making fun that he was gonna play CK, but played Sicilian which Bobby probably preferred to face.
It is well known what the board was at that moment. The story, told in an interview by Bobby (which can be found online), as well as in his biography, is that in that particular tournament everyone was replying with the Karo-Kann instead of the Sicilian, which was considered bad. Tal pretended to do the same holding his pawn at c6 for a few seconds and then pushing it to c5, showing he wasn't afraid of a Sicilian game.
Great sportsmanship from Tal. Hard to tell what Fischer thought in the moment, but there's a video of Fischer remembering Tal's delayed C5 fondly. If even Bobby liked Tal, that's saying something! 😂😂
The gesture and smile : fischer said that all the soviet player are afraid to play sicilian defense against him thats why they play karocan denfence so first tal acted like he is playing karocan but after with the smile he pushes to the c5 with standard sicilian defense , showing fischer that he has guts to play sicilian against him , and tal won the game
