Welcome to another episode of Trailmakers! Today I am back in the High Seas expansion exploring more of the map! Many of you requested a catamaran-style ship in the comments, so I built my own version of one to explore the volcano area with!

Journey over grueling mountains, hazardous swamps, and bone-dry deserts on a distant world far from civilization - it is just you, your fellow adventurers and the amazing, jet-powered hover-buggy you built yourself. Explore, crash your vehicle, build a better one, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find along your way.
Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

a few things I think you should try:
-experiment with making a plane using only sails for wings
-build a larger submarine for underwater exploration
-build a *pontoon plane
-make a stupidly oversized boat and ride it through the big waves near the edges of the map
Read the replies bc they have great suggestions too
- make a surfboard using hover

A car only powered by Sails (it still has wheels, but you won’t use them)

the second i saw the wind and sails i really hoped the physics would be good enough for tacking and really sailing and if they improve it im definitely buying this game and the expansion

yea, hope they change sailing physics, cuz right now its still not real
Sailing is good enough for tacking, can confirm you just have to build a boat designed for it.
You can lower the keel of the ship and put majority of weight down on it. That will help you stabilize the ship during wind pushing perpendicularly on the sails.
You should add a hydrofoil on to your catamaran to go through the waves more easily. You've done a challenge like that before but there were no waves at the time but there is now lol. Also maybe you should convert the middle section into a storage for artifacts.

I'm sure there are gonna be more of those "misplaced" artifacts that you have to do a long trek to deliver, so maybe building a big cargo plane that goes really fast to make things easier?
A floating cargo plane like a Catalina would be nice.
You should call this Catermaran the Catamarinth because its a mixure of Catamaran and Catarinth

Edit, because the colors matched, besides the name. Maybe he should incorporate a small amount of gold into his Catarinth Logo because it looks really good with the black and white.
A surf board would be cool. I wonder how hover pads would interact with the waves.
They don't work very well, I've tried it.
You should try From The Depths. It’s been updated a huge amount making it far easier and faster to build, by far best game of its type

Kinda want to see you combine a plane and submarine, partially so you can keep the drone on quick select but mainly to see what you come up with to deal with the wind but be fast and capable of leaving the waves.
Also I definitely agree with trying a hydro foil could be interesting. Idk if it will fit this boat though.

Hey scrapman, just a quick heads up. I have noticed when I’m playing the high seas DLC, that sails completely closed still have some sail properties. For example here at 6:30 when you had your sails completely closed but they where still pushing you front up. Closed sails are definitely dimmed at catching the wind, but they don’t act completely closed

Build a STOL Water-Bush-Plane-Thing, make it Look like a DHC2 beaver, a piper cub or a kitfox, would love to see sth like that

@@shade5616 Typical above cabin wing light plane, that is most popular but has giant float wheels, pontoons or skis basically.
I wonder what the edges of the map looks like, also, going from the less windy areas can you reach the very edge of the map

you can get as far away from the map as you like with a submarine. also, the wind speed caps out at 720.
The wind above sea level is intense you get bowled over back to the center even if you're flying with jets, especially in the corners. Idk about under water. The waves also keep getting more intense.
Never seen someone try to do move that fast
Would be awesome to see you build a final fantasy style airship
Or even a multiplayer Monday airship battle over the vortex

from my experience the best way to counter the effects of the waves is horizontal wings, if done right you can also have them aid in steering in water on calmer seas

You should make a speed boat that just goes through the water for exploring or traversing the map easily
i think they need to add more precise tractor beams, like a smaller tractor beam with the same amount of power so you don’t pickup unwanted stuff

There is probably no way for it to be possible but in sandbox you should try to create a plane that uses mostly sails for its wings. Good luck

The yellow area is mostly bases in underwater caves, you should overhaul your submarine before then

Yellow is snow, you'll find it north as your thinking as each island so far is in a area of the map that can be split by an X and the center of it is the vortex, also good luck getting the resources around that beast

that ship is GORGEOUS! im so incredibly eager to get this expansion but i dont have the money yet. your videos are giving me so many ideas and its KILLING ME that i cant get to building yet!!!
My real question is can you make a sail plane? to elaborate either a plane that uses sail propulsion or a plane with sail wings PS like the Catamaran when it was still red during the build it looked like something Aku's forces would be using in a Samurai Jack episode.

Sails are litterally soft wings turned 90 degrees irl so i hope so in trailmakers too hahaha
You could try to make kind of a bout that has like a open space on the top for a car/land vehicle/drone and underside an independent retractor bean to hold a sub
Pretty sure even with the sails closed they still get affected by wind a little and thats why you do that wierd back flip motion when ur jumping a wave

Take the sails out of the center and put magnets in like a collection net
for anyone wondering, his outro song is called “recovery” by some dude named catarinth, he’s pretty good
You should use a compass and two servos to make the sails always point towards the wind once you set them facing the right way. It makes controlling a boat with only wind power much easier.

All of this makes me want to see you play From the Depths, since it has MUCH more detailed ship building and I bet you could do some really interesting things with it.
The vortex is actually a monster from Greek Mythology called Crypdis. IDK how to spell it but it is a massive sea monster.

I feel like creating a drone that is really good against the wind, and not just a drone modified to work with wind would be good. Then you get all the land-based artifacts. you can get the vortex artifact with it.
Also exploration. I feel like discovering the entire map would be fun. There are probably so many fun places to explore on this map
I would also like to see a supersonic plane and see how strong the winds at the edge of the map are. Maybe you'll get so far off the map that the wind doesn't blow. Or there's a wall. that too.
Hey Scrapman, I know this is like a whole water themed thing but I'd like to see more plane stuff. Maybe experiment with planes + sails?
scarpman, for the keel ur gonna wanna make it lower and heavier
not just heavier, this allows you to combat winds perpendicular to your sails but it still doesn;t help with tacking
from what i noticed the reason your ship is tipping even with no sails active is that the pole and the sail part itself creates alot of drag

20:48 can you just ditch the sails till you figure out their issue? or maybe make a purely wave cutting ship for transporting cargo? then have a flying/diving/driving/sailing switching thing for collecting salvage for the Wave Cutting ship. Maybe add some automation for storing artifacts on the wave cutter from a drop off point. Considering there;s logic in Trailmakers now.
Amazing video, I just have a vid idea that I think would be really cool. Trying to make a surf board with no engines to go down some of the huge waves, and be able to maneuver across them while being pushed

Make a glider for when you’re flying in the same direction of the wind
Your drones legs should rotate up 90° to give you more clearance for your magnets, you could also attach one magnet on the inside bottom of each leg and when you rotate up you would have 4 magnets evenly distributed.
I wonder if there will be any story behind the vortex monster

Man some of those waves really remind me of some of the stormy areas from sea of thieves. I can still remember when I used to play with some of my homies. That game was absolutely amazing for its time. It still is one of the best if not actually the best sailing game I have ever seen, especially if you have a crew
A Catamarinth. You went with elegant instead of channel colors, and it looks amazing. Matches Catarinth's maze colors, black and white.
They made the kick out time way longer now. It makes it really nice for going through waves.

Instead of making a large weight underneath the catamaran, maybe you should try making the sails tilt backwards when not in use, so that they’re level or almost level with the deck. It would alleviate your concerns about tipping backwards, and it would also make it move faster when going into the wind, since even the retracted sails have a ridiculously high wind resistance.

Scrapman, can you use the wind to fly? Like have the wind on the sail at an angle that it pushes the mechanism upwards and turns it as well.

they allow checkpoint it up near the snow bit, when you get there under the water in the dome there is a vase, get it and put it up to the checkpoint. then go to the next vase which is down near that big skull place, there you will find a old relic of the past, long sunk, could the lost civilisation be the inhabitants of danger zone?

I can’t wait for scrap man to try and break through the high wind zone in a future episode, or at least use it’s broken physics as a slingshot of some kind.

Can you make a only sail powered ship and use it for an episode? I made it, and it's possible to make it able to go at a good angle aganist the wind if you make it good (it's difficult tho, but that's the fun of it after all). Or you can make a multiplayer race with sailboats if you don't want to use them for the campaign

You should make the dron with retractable legs (like pistons) so it's easier to catch objects and don't destroying it at picking up things
Don't know how hard it could be to build, but, you need an Amphibious aircraft, just for quick exploration.
to turn with sails you should try putting one of them down on the side you want to turn to so only one sail catches the wind
