Widow Says Toddler Remembers Night of Dad’s Murder

- Father and Microsoft executive Jared Bridegan was viciously ambushed in an upscale neighborhood in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, in February. He was driving home with his 2-year-old daughter. Cops say he stopped his vehicle to move a tire obstructing the road. That's when he was gunned down. Police believe the tire was left in the middle of the street to lure him out of his car. Bridegan's widow, Kirsten, says their daughter is struggling with what she saw that night.
"I will protect Momma," hits me really hard. From what I get from that is, she wishes she could have done something to protect her dad, and she feels a bit responsible for what happen since she literally couldn't do anything. She has a strong mind, and a strong personality, she's really holding her family together.

The video of her telling her mom she would protect her just broke my heart. Kids have surprisingly good memories sometimes and in this case it really sucks. She will always remember that day of her father dying right in front of her even subconsciously.
I know it's heartbreaking I hope it Dosent leave any long term negative effects on her

She must be terrified of losing her mother too. I remember being little and my dog dying one night, my parents wouldn’t tell me how. So I slept in my parents bed every night for two years to make sure they were safe and that whatever got my dog didn’t get them too. I was constantly on edge at night for too many years. It’s led to insomnia in adulthood. I hope the little girl has a happy and peaceful life from now on.

I know it sounds heartless but NEVER get out of the car even if there is someone or something blocking the road. Poor girl, no kid should ever witness their dad being killed right in front of their eyes.
Only people with experiance in bad areas will know this. It's a basic sign of a planned ambush. At best it would've just been a robbery. It's also why I never park close enough to vehicles at lights to allow myself to be boxed in. TBF, this dude likely grew up in the 'burbs so he didn't know any of this.

Prayers will not do anything. It didn’t save the father’s life. What the child will need is lots and lots of counseling.
Because a child's brain is still developing and seeing this kind of thing can really mess a kid up for the rest of their life and cause behavioral issues and more

She will eventually, but the trauma will never go away. In fact with this trauma she has, and with the way she's acting. It might lead her to becoming part of the military or a cop; while she might have certain attachment issues in the future.

Someone who knew he would be traveling back home after dropping off his twins from his first marriage. His wife said whoever did it knew he would stop and move the tire to ensure no one was hurt.

@Oscar Universe they have a daughter together. She should at least care for her child who would have a father her mother set up and a mother in jail. That would put a lot of psychological burden on their child they share, which she wouldn’t deserve being young.
Sometimes that’s why it’s done that way, to put themselves beyond suspicion. “Why would I traumatize my own child” is quite a shield against probing questions.

I'm 52 with an awful short term memory but, I can _still_ remember wearing diapers and short dresses that didn't cover my bottom and crawling on the floor and being carried EVERYWHERE. If she remembers, I believe it.
A child's memory is the clearest, there is not much there expect the want to learn and experience. Sadly these experiences can be heartbreaking and traumatic but no matter how old we get or how far we try to push it down. They will always be our clearst memories. The way this little girl spoke made me have chills and I'm still feeling pain from it. At two her brain has already dealt with something that she has had to process and see her self as a "protector" for mom instead of being bed ridden like most people would be after not only losing their father but watching it happen also... makes me angry, very angry.😤

Is the child from his 1st marriage? Yes it IS most likely someone that knows him. Either ex, or a disgruntled co-worker, seems most plausible. Why does the ex need a copy of the death certificate? The cops should look into her financial insurance records to see if there is a policy taken out before their divorce. The wife is suspect as well, if she has anything to hide financially. It is horrible to look at people you "love" and wonder if you ever "knew" them at all.
The child will NOT forget what she experienced. She needs some play therapy NOW, to enable her to start to process her emotions. The longer the mom waits, the more damage to that child.
Yes... asking for a death certificate usually means someone is seeking to collect on a life insurance claim if there is one to claim. I'm so sorry for this family. I just lost my husband recently, and the ex ended up getting all of his life insurance policies. We weren't married long, so he didn't get a chance to switch things over. All the ex had to do was get a death certificate, and she got everything.
If he and his ex had children together, depending on their custody agreement (if they had to make decisions together, like getting passports for the kids, for example) she would need a copy of his death certificate. Needing it for insurance or social security is common as well. I don’t think it’s an odd thing to request if she has minor children with him. I think it’s odder that the wife feels some sort of way about it, especially if he has children with his ex. It comes off as if she’s only considering her kids and not all of his children. Plus, why would she plaster her child all over the news and jeopardize her daughter’s safety by making a point to go public about her remembering what she saw. Go to the police and a grief specialist sure, but not the news. That could make her daughter a target for tying up loose ends.

If he was an HR executive at Microsoft I'd imagine he's fired a lot of people over the years. That's where I'd investigate if I were a detective working on this case. Also, publicly exhibiting his ex-wife as a possible suspect with no evidence to back it up is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

2023 Update: his ex-wife’s new husband is charged with his murder. I hope this brings some sort of closure to them.

That's so sad. My mom died 2 days after my 3rd birthday (due to abuse/metal health neglect). I was there when the ambulance took her away. I've dealt with horrible PTSD since. I never want a child to suffer like that.

This is truly tragic! This is why you should have a dash cam or any kind of camera on your vehicle. Because you never know what will happen when you’re on the road these days.
