    I'm from south africa and we do the same here, it's culture but it's also bullshit bec the price for the "thank you" can be R100 000 and the money doesn't go towards the wedding or the couples lives so you're buying a women

    Amen, so I'm a white Californian and I'm dating a woman from sesotho meseru n she told me about this lobola n I was shocked because I believe in equality n I felt at first that having to buy her hand was crazy but I'm open. For yehovah yirah. He will provide. It's just different but it's calming to know I'm not the only American going through or has gone through this. We are still in beginning of our relationship 8 months but our foundation is on Christ. But thanks for sharing your beautiful story in Jesus name. Blessings to you family. God bless you abundantly.

    I absolutely share your views on this African tradition. It's biblical, it's Middle Eastern and very much integral within the African custom and traditions.
    I have recently come to understand this to a greater extent now where I will be incorporating this in my introduction/Engagement Party in my home town in Bristol, England where my Jamaican family will be present and witnessing this for the first time under the umbrella of the Nigerian Igbo marriage rites. "The Knocking" ceremony will take place over a period of 2 cohort days in advance.
    The list - from brides family of these gifts are given to the groom’s family and relatives. Nothing elaborate or exorbitant at all. I will insist it must come into a manageable budget or else it will be cancelled. That's why there should be agreed negotiations to accept it. No haggling. Bride Price will be given to the parents as a token of appreciation and gifts, providing the bride herself will have already given consent to the marriage and will be asked if the family should accept the presented gifts. The Bride is the absolute key to it being the legitimate reason for the ceremony by consent because she was asked and she said a big fat YES lol 😆 😂 😅
    Then the dowry is paid to the bride for herself that the representing Groom’s family given on his behalf. What beautiful way to join 2 families together?
    We will be doing it under a spiritual trust as well as a celebrated day on the 3rd "Knocking". It's going to be glorious. My fiancé and I will work it out even for our parents to understand it. Nothing to do with western white wedding customs at all. As legal as that maybe, its considered irrelevant by African standards. Without the bride price, there's no recognition among the Africans.
    This is to legitimise it for our Jamaican and UK families to be accepted properly into African customs. It's going to be fun! Yayyy!!!🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💕🎊🎉

      it's not Biblicaly my dear i can proove you wrong { the only place it speaks about a bride price is {whenever a men sleeps with a women without being Married her father is allowedd to ask for some $$$$$$$ { Look at Zachariah 11 } it speak against it { in the pass it was a GIFT NOW ITS A DEMAND
      its so bad that it caused many SUICIDALS FROM YOUNGS PEOPLE KNOWING THAT THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MARRY SOMEONE 2# ABORTIONS BECAUSE MONEY IS PART OF THIS ISSUE 3# KIDNAPING KIDS BECAUSE OF $$$$$ 5# SOME MARRY AT AGE 10 THAT'S CRAZY AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST MY FAVORITE 6# IMAGINE JESUS IS WALKING BY AND THEN YOU GO AND ASK HIM {HOW MUCH SHOULD I ASK FOR MY DAUGHTER TO MARRY THIS MEN } WHAT WOULD HE SAY TO YOU TELL ME { I CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR YOUR POINT } PEOPLE ARE SO GREEDY FOR $$$$$$$ DEVILS BEST STRENGHT IS $$$$$$$$$$ BYE FOR NOW

    This is a huge part of my culture, however my father was never around and I have no male figures in my family… I’d hate to have to reach out to a “father” I haven’t seen/spoken to in years just for him to just get a payday out of something he had nothing to do with….
    I’ll just have to miss out on this tradition I think

    A lot of American men don't need to be threatened by a lot of men. The American justice system is behind women. A bride price is only worth it if she has a sub 5 body count or if her family is offering their full support. Otherwise your getting got. Also that woman has to be one with God.

    I don't understand what Money has to do with respect, you can pay anybody any amount but that does not say anything about the intentions or integrity of the one who pays.
    Then there is that guy who has no money but truly and genuinely loves his future bride .......now what?
    I understand cultures, rituals, and traditions but times are changing, Women should not be for sale in 2023, people are priceless.

      In the Bible we see God's law requiring a brideprice (Exo. 22:16-17.) We believe it is more a symbol of sacrificial love and demonstration of commitment on the bridegroom's part. Christ paid a brideprice for His "bride" (all the believers) of His own blood! What is money compared to that! We have a video on our channel about giving a brideprice as modern Americans if you are interested.

    Y. I ain’t never heard such a thing as Bride Price. Not gonna lie, I was triggered a f about the Dowry. I thought she was trying to get me. I’m talking to a woman from Ghana. I’m a Filipino-American. She wants to marry Me, and I do her. But I get it. Because she’s always a working woman that contributes to her family. I’m taking her value from her family and making it mine.

    What virginity festivals can I go to meet a wife? And why are livestock so valuable to Africans? And are there any Africans that do not use money?

    • @Ladynilow
      @Ladynilow 2 роки тому

      Everyone uses money , livestock was important because it was a symbol of wealth , not so much anymore. Today you need money not livestock. back in the day if you had a lot of cattle that means free milk and meat , rice and maze is growing in your backyard , literally no need to buy food. The virgin festivals are rare these days because FEMINISM happened

    While I understand and respect the cultural significance of this tradition, it bothers me. Why? If you pay for something it is yours, you do whatever you like with it! Just like people and animals evolved so do culture and traditions. Because my great grand parents were slaves I cannot stomach paying for another human being..... I refuse to believe that all stories end as beautiful as yours.... I was to marry a beautiful Zimbabwean Girl in 2009 and when my parents found out about the price they flat out refused to pay.... Her parents did not understand what our fore parents went through and called off the wedding.... It is sad that families use their daughters as means of getting rich and exploit men who genuinely love their children.....

      @vaughnconnor1542 3 роки тому +1

      @@xhalanga it's reply like these that blackens the eyes of black men and women in the Caribbean..... Silly comments that offer absolutely no substance.... In our West Indian culture, where men and women were sold and bought as slaves it holds particular significance.... As descendants of african slaves we view paying any form of dowry or bride price as a crime and it is against our laws and morals.... But you want to claim that you have moved into the 21st century with traditions that oftentimes humiliate both men and women!!! But carry on it is your thing not mines
