@@shingiriromupanda7391 Our forefathers viewed women as possessions. Possessions that they either gave to each other as gifts or sold to each other.Marriage back then was a master-slave kind of relationship. They even practised ukutwala/musengabere where a man could kidnap a woman of his choice (lust) and force lobola negotiations on the family. The woman 's family didn't care as long as cows were coming. Women were not even allowed to inherit wealth from their deceased husbands. How could a cow inherit another cow?In the event that the woman fail pregnant out of wedlock a fine called damages these days was paid to the father. Not the woman who has been damaged. It was paid to the father because it is his property that had been damaged. The woman received nothing. She was left all alone to deal with the stigma of having a baby out of wedlock and society called deregotary names. Women are paid for because they are viewed as going into the marriage to serve the husband. Marriage in the old days when lobola was created had nothing to do with love.Women's feelings, choices and emotions were not considered. A father could give away his other daughter to his son in law just because the other daughter could not bear a son.The barbarism comes from reducing women to mere commodities that are paid for. The fact that lobola is CHARGED,NEGOTIATED & PAID makes it a sale

Thank you for taking the time to watch the videos! There is no average amount for lobola. The amount paid is determined through negotiations. As in this video:
      ua-cam.com/video/yxRzxen0I38/v-deo.html
In most cases there is a general understanding that the lobola amount should be reasonable. Originally lobola was truely a token of appreciation and a sign of commitment.
