    This is a great video. After doing the cabin filter change numerous times - here are two suggestions. MARK the direction of AIR FLOW of the filter on the white plastic carrier with a SHARPIE. THE AIR FLOW IS DOWN. Do not trust that the person before installed it correctly. You can tell because when the filter is pulled out, the dirt is on top. Also, if you have a helper, you can hold the glove box in place and pull the carrier out, hand it to your helper who can replace the filter in the carrier - and hand it back to you to slide it in. Thus avoiding the elect disconnects.

    Thanks man! I spent more time looking for the 10mm in my husband's shop than it took to replace that air filter and put everything back together. You made everything very clear! Super appreciate it!

    I have 2000 Avalon XLS and only had to remove 5 Phillips screws to lower the glove box assembly and was able to replace filter without disconnecting any plugs.
    I'm glad i didn't see that video cause i would be disconnecting stuff for no reason lol.

      @eveonline14 I have the same model car. So you saying all I have to do is just remove 5 screws without disconnecting things? If so I am so glad and relieved maybe I can do it myself if I don't have to disconnect things.

    • @eveonline14
      @eveonline14 3 роки тому +5

      @@VicToriousCollecTion yes. No need to disconnect anything. Once you remove the screws holding the glove box, wiggle it to pull it out a little and leave everything plugged in. You will see filter housing right behind the top part of glove box. Plenty of room to replace it easily. 👍

      @@eveonline14 thanks so much save me some money from going to the Toyota dealership for services. Update 08/11/21 I did EXACTLY what you said and it worked got it in there with no problem 😊 no need for disconnections as you stated!

      Right on! I was thinking the same thing. No way am I disconnecting the airbags. And why take the whole door off the hinges? I have the same Toyota Avalon. Probably hasn't been changed in 21 years. LOL

      I have an '02, remove the 4 phillips and the 1 10mm, pop it out, don't disconnect any wires, just reach in past the glove box and pull out the piece that holds the filter. Super easy.

    Your video is great! I really appreciate your keeping it informative and concise 👍🏻👍🏻 It helped me realize how much harder it is to change cabin filer in Avalon compared to the Hondas that I’ve done.
    At almost 70 👵🏻& with mobility issues, I’m gonna let the auto shop do the Avalon!

    Thank you for this video. I wasn't aware that my car even had a cabin air filter. I followed your directions to the letter. Now, my 2003 Toyota Avalon which I have owned for 16 1/2 years has a new cabin air filter installed. The filter that was removed was gross looking. Thanks again.

    Awesome job concise and to the point. I saw another vid on the same procedure clocking in at over 30 minutes. Galaxies were made faster than that. When I went to change it I figured I could do it on spec but it wasn’t too long before I thought I was working on the space shuttle
    Thanks for turning it back into a car bro 👍

    Thanks for the help. One suggestion: When the glove box is unscrewed and dropped, you can reach in and change the filter without disconnecting the wires and removing the box.

    Kept wondering what was tripping my low battery warning every time I turned on the AC. The car smelled like how a 19 year old car (‘03) is supposed to smell, but lo and behold with your help I figured out what it was. The owner before me never replaced it in 144,000 miles. It was covered in everything imaginable. There was even a rusty razor blade on it?? Now the light isn’t tripped and the car smells NORMAL and the AC Blows strong again. Huzzah!

    Can't you just unhinge the glove box door like on other vehicles, or did Toyota make in a way where you have to remove the whole thing?

    What if your missing the air cabin box

    • @barty8980
      @barty8980 2 роки тому

      If for some reason the actual cabin air filter tray is missing, you’d have to order the part from Toyota (recommend new) or get one from a car recycling center that fits, and then install with new filter. Would be really odd though that the air filter test would be missing. OTOH, if there was a base model that did not have a cabin air filter integrated into the air system, then you don’t have a filter to replace. Dirtier air but that was the cost savings when the car was bought. Probably way expensive to add one by replacing with a higher model’s air unit at this point in a 17-22 y/o vehicle.

      On my 2000 XL - (My friend) a Toyota master technician was able to just slide a filter into the existing “tray” where no previous filter ever existed. He said only the XLS got filters put in from factory.

    Toyota clearly meant to increase revenue in "stealership" service departments with this cumbersome design. Jeesh! I bought a 2004 XLS in Sept 2020 w 146K miles. The older guy had taken excellent care of it as it looks almost brand new. However, the cabin filter had never been changed & was beyond filthy when I changed it. I don't see it mentioned in owner's manual.
    I'm going to change it again soon.

    • @njsongwriter
      @njsongwriter 3 роки тому +2

      It's in the owner's manual of our 2009 RAV4! And with full instructions to replace it yourself.

    • @barty8980
      @barty8980 2 роки тому +1

      The cabin air filter became a good health and selling point and now most cars have them standard as they should be, another overall improvement in cabin air quality.
      It’s not terribly hard to replace DIY and each successive generation of Toyota vehicles became easier and easier to change. We had a 97 Lexus ES300 that requires pulling the rug from center console near driver’s foot to access the air filter, hard to get too but fairly easy to do. This Avalon required taking out the glove box with 5 screws but after that, very easy to replace filter. 2004 Sienna has same behind glovebox location but only needed to unhook glove box from guide track w/easy pushes from each side and box drops down to reveal access. Could replace in under 5 minutes.
      It is true that on special, the dealer will charge $40 for regular and $50+ for carbon air filters and another $18-25 installation for literally a 10min job. DIY types can order the same OEM Denso or other carbon filter from Rockauto.com for $5-15 plus shipping and 15 min of your time, big savings.
