I saw the proton many times as i worked at Prodrive. I believe it was the only one made. The gearbox was part of a program that involved Skoda (octavia) and Seat so they all shared development costs . I built most of the Skoda boxes with a colleague and did a lot of work with the Seat too.
Great video! I really cannot imagine why someone would hit dislike. Unfortunately the rally world is not like the old days. Group B was superb, even Group A at the 90s was great.

Nice video. The Escort RS1700T actually did compete in rallying. Ford SA campaigned one in the South African Rally Championship from '83 to '86. It's only victory was in the Nissan International Rally of 1985.
I was present at Goodwood 2006 when the McRae R4 was first shown; I recall there being plenty of attention to it from both the public and other drivers. In fact I've read Petter Solberg managed to reserve the first production model for himself whenever it would have been produced! A travesty that we lost Colin and his wonderful project to provide a car that was inexpensive, versatile, and supported younger drivers getting into the sport. I believe the only example is owned and preserved by his father Jimmy McRae; it would be great to see it out on active display again someday.
Great video! It's a shame us Malaysians never got to see the Putra WRC in action. If it did ran, Prodrive will have difficulties taking care two factory teams at the same time 😆 At least the car got its resting place that it deserves....I wonder when will they fire up that car for the public? 😁
Hate the Audi it sounds great but looks shit. Colins R4 was amazing, so sad that Jimmy or Alistair didn't finish the project in honour of Colin. I actually like the look of the Proton even though its side profile is very similar to the Subaru, but that's not a bad thing 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🏁

Everything I have read about Group S says that the engines were intended to be limited to 300 hp to reduce speeds to a manageable level, so we never would have seen the crazy power numbers here in real life. In a way the class morphed into World Rally Car; with the 300hp limit, and low homologation numbers so car makers didn’t need to produce a turbo 4WD model to compete.
All these unraced cars got me thinking about concepts, specifically the Peugeot Quasar which I had a model of as a kid, and up one pops at the end of the video, nice one! :-)
Wow, interesting video. Even though qi'm a rally fan, I wasn't aware of the very short-lived Group S era. I would have liked to see the Proton Putra WRC in action, it would have been interesting to see competing against Subaru, Mitsubishi & Ford at that time. I was thinking Porsche 959 but it did race winning the Paris Dakar and it's class at the 24hours of Le Mans but I think the Ferrari 288GTO never raced.
Could any one sue FIAT for destroying Lancia as a brand and technical and design-wise phalanx?!? The S4 was already obscene, but the ECV ... who would not like to see it in drag races against F1 or motorcycles? Just as a german rally driver (don't remember who exactly) said: the S4 acceleractes like a motorbike, in any single gear.
You cannot sue FIAT for what they do to their own assets. All these conglomerates make cars to sell and hence make money, they sell whats profitable or dont sell it at all, lancia was owned by fiat even before all the rally shenanigans but i guess when they left the wrc the promotion through it of the sporty models ended hence the demand plumited and they decided to just make whatever of the marque.

But for 2018, with the Diesel Gate, VW retired from WRC. So they looked for a cheaper championship, and created a Factory/Private Team the VW-PSRX(-KMS) Team. VW bring their WRC car with some 2018 Evo spec, and they together convert it. That’s also why these cars have their radiator on the front.

Ford RS1700T was used for 2 full seasons in rallies in South Africa. Serge Damsaux was the driver. Was successfull.
