People are facing a tough retirement. and it's even harder for workers to save due to low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire in.

That’s a valid concern. Retirement planning has become tougher than it used to be. Many people underestimate how much they’ll need or overestimate what their current savings will cover. You have to think about unexpected medical costs, market downturns, and even how long you might live!

After a devastating hurricane destroyed my beachside business in 2017, I vowed to never again put all my eggs in one basket. I've since diversified my investments and hired a financial advisor to manage my excess funds. Now, as a semi-retired sailor, I spend only 9 hours a week maintaining my yacht, and I'm thrilled to be just 5% shy of my $3.4 million retirement goal, thanks to savvy investments made since rebuilding my finances

Thanks for sharing your experience! I've been managing my portfolio myself, but it's not working out. Do you have any recommendations for a good investment advisor? I could really use some help.

My CFA, Joseph Nick Cahill, is a renowned figure in his field. I recommend researching his name online; you'll find all his credentials and everything you need to work with a reliable professional. With many years of experience, he is a valuable resource for anyone looking to navigate the financial market.

Thank you so much for the suggestion! I really needed it. I looked him up on Google and explored his website; he has an impressive background in investments. I've sent him an email, and I hope to hear back from him soon!

Fantastic vid there, well structured and thought through. Those questions are really thought provoking. We early retire at the end of April 25. Most looking forward to having the time to get healthy again, to travel and spend time planning our third age!

I'm due to retire in March 25, aged 60, as my hand has kind of been forced - though I had planned to retire within the next 12 months. The suddenness of it all is causing me anxiety, both financial and what am I going to do but I was totally demotivated at work, fed up with the toxicity of where I worked and had enough of both the commute and constant moaning colleagues. I'm not sure how it's going to feel no longer having a salary coming in as my pension is modest, to say the least, but enough is enough and I have to think about the effect work is having on my health and wellbeing. I've yet to meet anyone who doesn't love retirement or would want to return to work, let alone their previous job, and everyone I talk to has told me to quit work - they can't all be wrong.

You'll be fine. And if you're bored there are lots of interesting volunteer opportunities at home and abroad too. Or maybe a lower stress part time job locally.

If you had said all of this to me 5 years ago, i would have said you are talking garbage. Less than two years to retirement, and i probably think more about my purpose after retirement than anything else. Great video content BTW.

@@Bustergonad9649 thanks for the comment and thrilled you like the videos. You are in the majority in that most people think that retirement is a complicated maths problem that can be solved with a spreadsheet, when in fact it’s a complex human problem that in truth doesn’t have any clear answers. Purpose is central to our being… look out for my first podcast of 2025 which is with the brilliant Jordan Grummet on his new book The Purpose Code.

Action step 6. Be grateful you’re not in a corporate bullshit world surrounded by linked in psychopaths. I am. Went in 2021 at 56, if you can, get out. This isn’t a rehearsal.

@ I use the phrase ‘life isn’t a rehearsal’ all the time. Many people act as if it is, thrilled you’re not!
