Kayak Camping Adventure with AMAZING Campfire Cooking! // Mad River Final 16 Miles

- The final segment of the Mad River in West Central Ohio, 16 miles from Spangler Road to the end where it joins up with the Great Miami River at Deeds Point Metro Park in Dayton. The last 6 miles has several difficult portages and rapids and is not recommended for the beginner. Several friends joined me on this paddle and we found a great sandbar to camp on and cooked some incredible food over the fire. Check out the links below to see my other section paddles on the beautiful Mad River.

You're really getting your moneys worth out of that Perception Hook Kayak! Great little kayak.... love mine!
I love that kayak! I would buy it all over again...it's perfect for kayak camping!
chamoy and tajin.......... yum
Good one Jason. I enjoy your cooking also. Hey, Buehlers here in Wooster sells Wishwell farms corn and I scurry it up when I can. I always get so hungrey when I see your vids. LOL.
Glad you enjoyed the video and the cooking! But, I'm confused on the corn part at Buelers...I don't wholesale any of our corn, its only sold at my roadside stand and farmers' markets we attend around Columbus, so it must be another farm with a similar name or something?? I'm very curious now to whom it could be?
Those paper towels you packed might have been handy for eating that Mexican street corn 😂
haha, yeah, I was a mess wasn't I, lol! We did use them, it just didn't make the video 😉
That is cool you were able to go right through the dam! Great video. I attempted this earlier this year but took out before the dam. Sad to see the rope swing platform is gone. Thanks for the video Jason.
Yeah, that was the best swing on the mad river that i'm aware of. That dam could be dangerous during higher water...we were fortunate it was down a bit. Thanks!
Looked like a blast man. Good to see Lance out there with you.
You'll have to ask him about the part I edited out of him, lol. I was glad to have him along for the adventure!
Great trip. Thanks for bringing the Tighes along.
You bet!
Looks like a great float. Lots of good food. I don’t know if kayak would hold me up after all that food.😂
Haha! We definitely ate well! A canoe would hold ya 😂 Thanks for watching Joel!
Looks like you all had a fantastic weekend
Thank you for the video
You bet! Probably not too many warm kayaking days left!
Great trip. Looked like a lot of fun had by all.
Good times indeed! Time for some backpacking now!
Awesome trip like always. Thanks for bringing us along
Absolutely! Thanks for joining us on the video!
Epic trip man!! I keep saying it but I’ve got to make it up that way to check the Mad River out. I can say the little I’ve done of the Greenbrier River is amazing! Can’t wait to get back down there as well.
Man I can't wait to get on the Greenbrier someday! Thanks AJ!
Great job Jason!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
awesome vid!
Thank you glad you enjoyed it!
Great video
Thank you!
Glad to see you guys! Got lucky and seeing the fountain shoot off. I was not that fortunate the following weekend when I went. We did see your guys's camp spot though the big log was still there burnt. It's crazy how much that river changes in just one week from the time you did it to the time I did. Going to go scout Hawking River this weekend for next year. Then we'll I have to do two more trips on the little Miami for him to complete that. He's already completed the Mad River this past Sunday and I completed it the Sunday. Before that I've already completed the little Miami. He's hoping to complete two river systems this year like me. Hope to see you out there sometime. Love your videos and thank you for all your advice. It has been truly helpful
Glad to hear you finally got er done! Thanks for watching man!
@@jasonwish-thank you. Just had a buddy complete it last Sunday. I completed it the weekend before. I'm going to spend the rest of the year catching him up on the little Miami River so he can complete two river systems this year too. Congratulations on all the viewers you have now. Really awesome to see your page blow up
Good looking trip, Jason!
Thanks for watching!
Such a great time, buddy! Thanks for letting me tag along!
Absolutely! Glad you were able to come along! I just ate Mexican street corn tonight, it was fabulous again, even though I didn't have any lime...I just added a bit of white wine as a substitute! And I just discovered that I forgot to bring garlic!!! I must have overlooked that part when I read the recipe 😢
@@jasonwish- Man, it was excellent. I never eat that well while camping, so it was a real treat.
Another great video! Your channel really has me wanting to scratch that itch this fall! My wife an I camped /fished on the Greenbrier River and Tea Creek in WV a couple years ago. Beautiful area, but have bear mace for sure. While making camp on Tea creek, we heard an awful noise at night, just to wake up a massive pile of fresh bear scat just 20 yards from our tent. (8:05) That flower looks like a kind of primrose maybe?
I can't wait to hit the Greenbrier River someday! I've backpacked in bear country in 12 different states so I'm not really too worried about them, I just hang my food bag away from camp and I've never been bothered, but that would certainly be unnerving to hear one near camp at night for sure! Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it!
That Mad River morning is ideal indeed. : )
And that departure from camp, LOL.
I wonder if one could kayak the River Raisin in Michigan. And have you thought of Lake Charlevoix?
Yes, River Raisin has kayaking, it's been suggested to me before, but I prefer more Northern sections further from Detroit, but I would try it out if I'm ever in need of a short trip close to home. Lake Charlevoix would be awesome, as well as Torch Lake!
The Stillwater river should be next. I’m 5 minutes from Eastwood park , downtown and RT 4 if you ever need a safe overnight place to park. More cooking videos please!
Yes, the Stillwater is on my shortlist for next spring! thanks Jason!
Looked like a blast man!
Indeed! Btw, my wife and I just ate at Cousin Basil's last night for dinner, we really enjoyed it, thanks for the recommendation!
@@jasonwish- good to hear man that's great!
Oh man I would love to join one day this is my dream ifk where in nc to do this at
there are some great rivers in NC, check out River Kings youtube channel, that's where he is from
I’d like to see a through paddle of the Betsie river in Michigan.
The Betsie!! This is a new one I haven't heard of!! Looking it up now!
Ok, now that I checked it out I do remember looking at it briefly when I was researching the Platte River just North of it. I've added it to my list!
Awesome trip! Which variety(s) of sweet corn do you grow?
Thanks! We grow about a half dozen different bicolor varities that are all augmented SH2's (super sweets) we keep our exact variety names a little quiet. It's taken 30 years of trial and error and experimentation to figure out what works best for our farm and what our customers want. The varities are the best of the best....😁
@@jasonwish- can't argue that! thx for the reply
Michigan manistique/ fox in the u.p.
Excellent suggestions! I've looked into the Manistique before but was not really familiar with the fox. Both look outstanding! I love the UP and really looking forward to kayak camping more up there in the future!
If Ronald McDonald Wore Crocs those would be the ones
Well, looks like the colonel for the win!😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
