    What do you guys think of the a7C II?

    • @USGrant21st
      @USGrant21st 11 місяців тому +3

      Some skin tones still have too much orange and yellowish tint. The sky color shows cyan shift. The AWB still looks too flaky. Sony made some progress through the years but when it comes to colors it's still behind major brands like Nikon and Panasonic.

      @@yashtholia just like in any other camera by enabling LCD as the trackpad. But I don't know why would anybody ever need to move the focus point manually when every modern camera has sticky tracking.

    • @DavidZhou
      @DavidZhou  11 місяців тому +1

      You can use the ISO wheel to move a tracking point around and lock/unlock with a programmable button-not as robust as a dedicated joystick, but works great once you’re used to it

    With regards to “pro/paid job”, i would say my go around the single card slot is to use external monitor to record both internLly and externally. Which i think, using external monitor is almost always a good practise for video works anyways, since sony cameras back screen arent that great anyways.
    And also to invest in reliable cards.
    I am confident with that, i have used my OG A6000 and then now the a6700 for wedding photoshoots, did not have any issues with sd card failure (maybe until i run into one, then very likely i will have different feelings towards it 😅😅😅)
    Nice review G

    • @DavidZhou

      I like that-creating your own back-up while using an external monitor anyways! I have only had 1 card semi-fail on me and it was an old SanDisk one, but the Sony Tough cards have never given me an issue 🔥

    i’m still considering between a7iv and a7c ii since there’s no joystick, sync speed with flash is only 1/160s and maximum shutter speed with high speed sync is only 1/4000 instead of 1/8000 on the a7iv.

    • @DavidZhou
      @DavidZhou  9 місяців тому +2

      Joystick can be gotten around by using the wheel to lock and unlock the AF point and move it (a little slower than having a proper joystick), but lower sync speed and max shutter speed is definitely a drawback. If you shoot a lot during the brightest of daytimes (e.g., sports/wildlife) or use a lot of flash for fast events, the a7IV is the hands down better camera, but so far those limitations haven’t prevented me from using it for client work.

    I'm still very confused on whether to pick A7IV or A7CII I'm moving from APS-C to my first full frame and can only buy one. I love the form factor and the design of the A7Cii but I can't decide if the lack of dual SD card slot is a big enough reason to pick one over the other. Probably one of the most important decisions in my career(I'm still in my early career). I need advice as I am going to do professional photoshoots.

    • @DavidZhou
      @DavidZhou  9 місяців тому +4

      The *responsible* professional in me says you should ALWAYS dual-SD card and simultaneously write to both IN CASE of a card failure. It just protects you in a worst case scenario.
      Now with that said, I’ve shot both single and double card and I think I had one SanDisk SD card fail on me a number of years back, but ever since I’ve been using Sony Tough M/G cards and they’ve never seem to have any issues.
      Im personally primary shooting photos on my a7C II and haven’t had an issue, but if you’re shooting a LOT of photography/building the business, the a7 IV may be the more prudent choice :)

    I have the Sony a7c version 1 and love it! It’s my main real estate photography camera plus a b cam to my a7siii. Wouldn’t mind having the version 2 but the version 1 still works great for me. That new mode dial is killer. Great video!

    Thanks for this video. I've been deciding between A7IV and A7CII. It will be my first Sony (and full frame) camera, switching from Fuji and Canon. I will also be using this for hobbies and traveling.
    How's the low light experience? Did you experience any banding and bokeh issues? These things keep me from choosing A7CII as it does not have a fully mechanical shutter. Apart from that, I like that it's a mini A7IV as I was leaning to this in the first place.

    • @DavidZhou
      @DavidZhou  2 місяці тому

      Lowlight is going to be great on this camera, especially if you’re going to full frame for the first time; you’re going to see a huge difference.
      Banding usually only happens in weird scenarios like using silent shutter with LED panels (sometimes)
      I don’t have bokeh issues, ive only ever seen it as a lens dependent output
      Not having a mechanical shutter does seem like a bummer but it hasn’t really been something that stuck out to me transitioning from the a73 to a7C2 for my photo work.

      @humphreylitan 2 місяці тому

      @@DavidZhou Thanks for responding! I'm now leaning toward this camera. Plus it's a more recent release.

    • @DavidZhou
      @DavidZhou  2 місяці тому

      @@humphreylitan It feels a little front heavy because of the lightweight/compact design, so that might be an issue for some. Personally, I've shot with the 24-70 f/2.8 GM II and the 70-200 f/2.8 GM II on it and it feels pretty good to me, personally!

    Great video! I’ve been looking at like an upgrade from my current A7RIII and been looking at the A7CII quite a bit! Want something more compact than RIII to travel but also for both photos and videos! Do you think this would make sense? (Feels like 9 megapixels ain’t that big of a drop)😬

    • @DavidZhou
      @DavidZhou  7 місяців тому +1

      The MP drop shouldn’t be noticeable unless you’re printing large (and mostly benefits things like editorial, landscape, astro, etc. IMO). You’ll be getting a nice AF upgrade and much more compact body!
      If you really want to keep the resolution, the a7CR is also a really great choice!

    Hey man, really been in tune with your videos regarding the ZV-E1. I am mainly wanting to do short form video content and that was my primary option until this was released! How does the CII compare to the ZV in terms of video rendition and capabilites. Im familiar with the housing of the FX3 sensor in the ZV, no crop at 4k60 and minimal cropping at 4k120. What some other video components that you can shed light on that may not be merely spec based but moreso the video the cameras produce! Hope to hear from you soon!

    • @DavidZhou
      @DavidZhou  11 місяців тому

      I made an a7C II vs ZV-E1 video as well! But overall, if you’re 1) not shooting a ton of fast movement, the rolling shutter won’t be an issue, 2) you’re okay with the crop in 4k60 and 3) if you’re okay with the lack of 4k120/1080p240, then I think the a7CII is much more versatile as a single camera.
      The ZV-E1 for me was perfect because I wanted a second a7S3 but wanted it to be cheaper (plus it has some newer tech/features) so it’s perfect as a dedicated video b-cam

    • @AMALHI15
      @AMALHI15 11 місяців тому

      @@DavidZhou I think with my focus being primarily video, the ZV-E1 is where I will head. Id rather have some specs that I wont use but in the case that I ever need it, they're available. Spec differential coupled with the slightly smaller form factor and increased features, its my pick. Thank you so much for all the content you push out! It provides so much insight and makes it easier for indecisive people like me HAHA. Cheers mate!

      @NathanHassani-kr4bh externally, not that I’m aware of, it’s made of dense composite plastic like most cameras are, internally is a metal chasis-I’d suggest for you to go to an electronics store to hold and play with one first if it’s a big concern!

    Moving from APS-C to FF I am on the fence between building A7IV or A7C Il, I love compact size but heard that beefier size is better for ergonomics, stabilising and looks more professional. Would my best option to get A7C lI and buy a battery grip so it gets bulkier similar to A7IV and I can remove it anytime for travel ? Btw I will use prime lenses with it mostly for most bokeh

    • @DavidZhou
      @DavidZhou  2 місяці тому

      I would say if you’re going for “professional” and want the most features (extra dial, two SD card slots, full-sized HDMI port), I would go for the a7IV. Compactness is great if you’re okay making small trade offs in features but if you’re moving “up” from APS-C to Full Frame, you might as well enjoy all of the benefits of a full-sized full frame camera! Plus, you really can’t go wrong with getting the A7IV!

    A7cii not support type A memory card. But All-i bit rate 600mb... which card best for cii ? I am little bit confused about a7iv or a7cii. Basically I am a wedding photographer. My need both photography and Cinematography.

    • @DavidZhou
      @DavidZhou  7 місяців тому +1

      I use the Sony Tough G cards with 299 read/write and they’ve worked perfectly (just a little pricey). I would say that the biggest thing you’d be missing out on is the higher shutter speed cap of the a7 IV and dual card slots, but in return you’d get the updated AF of the a7C II, compact size, and save a little bit of money.
