Mule from Gair-Planes Has a Solid History and Can Save You Money
“We are Arizona’s newest aircraft manufacturer,” said Garrett Komm when we finally located him and his bright blue and silver aircraft.
A fan of this particular flying machine had approached me at Copperstate and said, “You gotta go see this airplane. Tell him Russell sent you!” (Thanks, Russell!)
After wrapping up a couple other video interviews, Videoman Dave and I left the main exhibit area to seek out Russell’s discovery. As we came upon it, parked among other transients to the light aircraft area at Copperstate, we both found it vaguely familiar. Well, it was vague for me. Dave was sure right away.
That’s because Gair-Planes‘ Mule started life as the Merlin from Canada and Dave was associated with the project for a time. Garrett had also worked with the Canadian designer so they compared notes for a few minutes.
I’d flown one of these for an hour or so many years ago.
We had a great showing at The Copperstate Fly In, and our Korsair project will be updated regularly.
We feel our light sport aircraft have a great future. Our Mule is made for fun low and slow backcountry flying, while the Korsair is going to turn heads. Specifications coming soon.
    What makes us different
We build rugged aircraft that provide years of service with basic maintenance.
We have a low initial cost and low build time. Some of our customers have said
” Its like a helicopter “ but with fewer parts also “ there are so many places I could land this thing”
    Great customer care
We are not the fastest plane out there but we Feel that we make one of the best for low and slow backcountry flying. During your build we keep in regular contact with you to answer questions as they arise.

I flew in the original Merlin here in Canada and that's what sparked me to get my Advanced Ultralight License. Still a favourite but out of my price range. I'd love to build one but sadly it costs more to build one yourself than it does to buy a slightly used ultralight.

I totally disagree with so many people saying that is you only take 1 lesson per month you loose 50-75% of what you learned. I study constantly and continue to grow. My CFI has told me that I am always better prepared than most students and usually i have already found the answers to my questions before I ask my CFI just to confirm my findings. Yes I do agree there is no substitute for flight time. But if you are constantly studying you should never loose anything.

Well after some 50 years of being a CFI and teaching both students and instructors, I would have to disagree!
Students that show up for a lesson a month, DO forget most of what they learned.
The best students are female, the best students are ones that commit to lessons over shorter periods of time.

@@ultralightnews I agree that students should fly at least 1 time per week. I have had an ear infection for almost 2.5 weeks and it is getting on my nerves, but better to be safe and 100% HEALTHY being right at pre-solo I would like to fly 2 times a week if possible

They need to seriously step up and improve their web site. It is extremely spars in information. Has no performance and specifications page. Has no sales page that lists prices and components and options. Has no information page on construction, estimated build times, fabric used, type of paint recommended, tools required. It has no "buy now" section where you can place an order to start building. It's almost like they don't want to sell anything, like the cheese store in that Monty Python skit. I am interested and this spring I am building my own airplane. Which one I build has not been carved in stone yet, and will not be until I write that first cheque.

Looks like it would be a cinch to install inboard flaps coaxial with the ailerons.
