It’s a great move. I have visited Romania 10 times since 2015. Terrific land and people. If younger and single I would relocate immediately. So many good friends for life.
We are already here in Old Town Bucharest! We love it. Very beautiful here with a dash of edginess but extremely SAFE and very historic. Who knew? Much different than NYC. We applied for Residency last week. Arrived here in April 2024 with our two dogs. Visited Constanța/Mamaia/Năvodari last month. Heading up to Brașov next week looping over to Cluj then Sibiu. Enjoyed your channel. Keep 'em coming. -F
Welcome in Romania! There are already a lot of people from USA. I am romanian and is a pleasure for me to welcome all people from USA in Romania who want to come here to live.
Conor I was in Transylvania in may , went to sigeshora and took a drive to viscree because of the kings Charles connection …. A great place to explore… I drove all the way from Ireland 🇮🇪 in my campervan 😊
I was there 2 months ago. First, thanks Conor, I heard an old podcast you recorded about Bucharest. You mentioned Gaia nightclub/bar. I went, and it is still good - thanks. Second, with so much negative press about Bucharest, I have never been more pleasantly surprised by a city. (btw, the opposite of Poland, so much great press, but IMO it's not good at all). Romanian girls - good looking and sophisticated and ironically, much nicer there, than when I meet them here in the U.S.
@@ConorClyneTsarExperience Saw it and I don't agree. Geographically we are in the East part, and that's not a problem. If it sounds bad to you, consider Romania an extrem far-west Asian country. Calling us a New Europen country implies that we just joined the table. We have way to much history to accept that name. East Europe and that's ok. PS: The English see us as "packs of Gypsies roaming the streets", as Nigel put it, so why the hell should we care what a non European country thinks?
@@EUTalks Romanian lies in the east of the European Union but not geographically in the east on the continent of Europe (Europe ends at the Ural Mountains). Romania is also on the left side of the ‘New Iron Curtain’ this time. It’s ‘Western Europe’ or ‘Eastern EU’ or ‘New Europe’ depending on your preference … but it’s not geopolitically or geographically ’Eastern Europe’ in 2024.
I have visited Romania 15 times since 2005 and have seen a lot of changes especially in Bucharest. While there are not a lot of natural blonds there are many women with blue and green eyes with brown or black hair. My first girlfriend in Romania had light brown hair with green eyes and skin as light as Conor's. I am currently engaged to a woman with dark hair and brown eyes and plan to move there early next year. I'll also be going in October for a month. Romania will be joining Schengen soon so after 90 days in Romania most of the rest of western Europe is off limits for 3 months if you are not a citizen of another EU. or Schengen country. But you can still go stay in Moldova , Ukraine or any other Eastern Europe country not in Schengen.
Bram Stoker was born in Clontarf on the north side of Dublin. He maybe of Anglo-Irish descent from his parents but he is most definitely Irish. British-Irish…That’s wrong.
He was a monarchist in favor of home rule so I think calling him ‘British-Irish’ is pretty accurate. He also lived his entire life while Dublin was part of the United Kingdom.
Hi conor! Concerning the language, it has a strong latin root but at the same time it shares vocabulary with Hungarian and a bunch of slavic languages which are neighboring the region such as Ukrainian or Bulgarian, even Russian. I'd like to share with you some examples: Vremea- время (russian), cât-e ceasu? - который час? The word ceas is basically the same, if i'm not wrong in Ukrainian that word means 'clock' as in romanian, prieten - приетель (or something) in bulgarian. Did you notice other similarities with Russian or Ukrainian while studying it?
There are many words borrowed from other languages, this also shows a high variation regionally. I'd say the largest influence comes from German and Hungarian in the upper and western part of the country.
There are a lot of them, for example "GRIZHA" or "GRADINA" also from Bulgarian, or for example "DULAP" from Turkish, "VINA"- "VINOVAT", "RANIT", "LENE", "BOGAT" and a whole lot more, all from Russian... from Hungarian there's "MUNCA", but despite all of this, roughly 85% of the vocabulary is of LATIN-GREEK ORIGIN...
Romanians didn't really need to borrow words from other languages, but many of them are coming from our ancestors Thracians, being an old "baggage of words" common in all of this languages spoken in the area were 2000 years ago were living romanians speaking people.
Presumably, the 90 in 180 mandate is enforced making it tough to have continuity in life, if one does decide to settle in Romania. If one can leave on Day 90 and immediately return, getting another 90 days, please let us know. This issue dissuaded me two years ago from renting an apartment in Bucharest and trying to settle long term there.
You should look at getting residency in Romania if you want to live there all year around and don't have EU citizenship. Otherwise split your time between Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.
As a romanian, i can confirm that even though we are open to date foreigners too, we definitely prefer romanian men. I have lots of girlfriends who dated foreigners, but almost all of them wanted to marry a romanian guy, and they eventually did it. I also have 3 friends and 2 cousins that are married to german, italian, hungarian and 2 english men, all 5 of them are amazing guys, great fathers. At the end of the day, a great man, is a great man, no matter where he's coming from. But the majority of us, want a romanian guy.
Conor , Where can I get a super high-quality cotton shirt green Trident T-shirt, or sports shirt like Zelensky wears? It seems you have one for yourself, yes??
I would have thought you were confusing Vlad Dracul with his son Vlad Țepeș/ Vlad The Impaler, if you hadn't said about the change of the capital, only that it was from Târgoviște to Bucharest. So take Alin's advice, don't delete the comment, but re-read those history books. Peace! ✌️
Sighisoara is and has always been in Transylvania, they were there as exiles. The royal court was set up also in Bucharest , but it moved around in those times.
What about Bulgaria for a more south/east Slavic feel? It also has great places to ski, food and beaches. It is good value for money and English levels are high for younger people.
I've been to Bulgaria twice and didn't enjoy either trip so I'm not enthusiastic about it. However, you're right that the level of English was good and the price level was lower than in Romania. Bulgaria is also better known than Romania for its skiing and beaches. Ultimately, I chose to spend my time in Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus (pre-2020) than in Bulgaria and Romania.
I might not know all of the countries in EE equally well but I operate companies here, also in Bulgaria, also in Romania. Bulgaria is more Balkan style in terms of food and general lifestyle. If you are into skiing Bulgaria is the better choice, but the quality of life (food, culture, etc.) is much higher in Romania. Or Poland. Or Lithuania. Funny enough I also liked the food in Moldova better than in Bulgaria. I am off to Armenia in 2 weeks and although I've been in Azerbaijan and Georgia this is the first time for me to visit Armenia. And after that I am visiting Chisinau again. And I have to say, Chisinau is one of the coolest small cities in Europe. And safer than any town in Western Europe. Which makes you think.
@@ConorClyneTsarExperience"Better known for skiing and beaches" is because bulgarians promote themselfs better than romanians, but Romania also has cool skii resorts, nice beaches and many other absolutely amazing places... They just choose to promote certain parts of Transylvania more, in terms of turism... but there is so much more to explore in Romania! I'm glad you enjoyed Moldova tho! Greets✌
What I find strange with Romanians is even though Romania is part of the EU, some of their people still choose to migrate to the US both legally (as tourists then overstay) and illegally (crossing the US/Mexican border according to US border patrol). Having an EU passport gives them a lot of opportunities to better themselves but it doesn't necessarily guarantee a better life.
yea Romanian salaries are low but at least in western Europe you got better social security and its easy to get there maybe they are trying to get to Canada .
The rate of illegal immigration to the US by Romanians is not high nowadays. They'll probably get visa-free travel in late 2025 if the visa refusal rate drops below 3% (it was 8% last year and down from 17% in 2021).
Those that cross illegalily the Memxican - U.S. border are in fact a small minority group here in Romania, officially called the Roma, or more commonly known as the gybsies... they usually avoid any kind official documents or formal registration practices, because they usually live like criminals(mostly begging & stealing)... and no any kind of official registration documents, means you can only cross a border in one way, not the formal way thus...!!!
as a Romanian, I can assure you that it is not great. Romania has quite a conservative society. LGBT is still widely rejected and will be for some decades from now on. in the big cities you would be tolerated but you may be subject to jokes and stares. but even in the big cities if you are a male homosexual and kiss your partner on the open street... you might get in some troubles bepending in what neighbourhood you are. female homosexuality is tolerated more easily as we have a male dominated society and men have their fantasies. so, in a nutshell, there are much better places than Romania for a gay person
There's a very small percentage of homosexuals in Romania. The east european culture differs from the western one and it's strongly family orientated. In addition to that, people continue to be more religious than the west. That's, actually, the reason there aren't too many.... "born homosexuals" as in the west. The woman is still precious and seen as the center of a man's life.
