Love the whole vibe of the video. Bucharest has a lot of hidden gems, you have passed by a lot of them where you were walking 🙊Stavropoleus church, Caru cu Bere, Hanul lui Manuc, Cercul militar, club Control, more cool restaurants like Mace or Salon Golescu, a lot cake shops, Tanti Mita Biciclista House, George Enescu Museum, Carturesti Library. Bucharest is not optimised for tourists yet, but it has plenty of things to do, it’s artsy, relaxed and fun by night. The North is more posh. Worth exploring, not many tourists know it.

As a Romanian I also never went to Bulgaria until last month, the first time, I went from Vidin to Sofia and the road was straight awful.. The main road number 1 was closed for some kilometers, I don't know why, and I had to go for hours through small country roads... And going back it was even worse, I had to take the 81 road that passes through mountains and is full of trucks.. I mean full of trucks on a windy and extremely curvy mountain highway... The positive thing is that Sofia was beautiful, and the food was also really good, but I don't think I will visit again unless they fix the damn main road.

@@RaduRadonys Yes unfortunately road infrastructure in northern Bulgaria is still quite underdeveloped, but they're currently building the Botevgrad-Vidin expressway, which should make the journey from Vidin to Sofia much faster and more enjoyable. In fact, this is why the roads were closed and you had to detour through the mountains. It'll probably be a few years before that expressway is finished... It's really dumb because they built that bridge at Vidin, but then didn't connect it properly to the road network, so now you have trucks going through curvy mountain roads as you described... really dumb, but it's how our government operates.

In terms of safety, Romania is probably in the top spots in all of Europe. I always find it funny when foreigners say that it's not safe, based on some oudated views or stereotypes. It is safe, but that's one of the few positives i can think of. As for Bucharest, it's pretty dirty, and quite polluted. We have the worst traffic in Europe, and you can really smell it 😅. Long-term, I'm pretty sure it won't do your health any good. It's true that you really have to try to get bored in Bucharest, there's always something to do/see/experience. It has immense potential, if only it were cleaner, and more pedestrian friendly. It's better than it was 10-20 years ago, definitely. Avoid it during summer, it can be unbearably hot & humid.

summer is the worst in Bucharest now with global warming, past 2 summers we've had more and more days of extreme heat, weeks in a row, just had two weeks of close to and over 40C and the weather tends to be very pleasant in April-May and September-Oct ,so it's not taking advantage of summer but just ...people in most of Europe like walking in the town and the parks in their free time, there's a strong culture of taking a stroll in town and sitting down for a drink and meal, preferably outside except for when it's really cold. From May to Oct this main street he was walking on becomes a pedestrian street and so a lot of people come to walk, it was not even busy in this video because of the heat.

Honestly, the kind of people who insist that there's nothing to see in Bucharest are also the same kind of people who don't actually know anything about the city beyond Lipscani and the People's Palace.
IMO Bucharest really shines if you visit the old residential neighborhoods that are adjacent to the city center; the Icoanei and Armeneasca districts, for instance, have a good mix of early 20th century and 19th century architecture, everything from "provincial beaux arts" and moorish and venetto mansions to art deco. They also have this really laid back feel to them that makes them fun to explore, especially on a summer day.

If you are still in Transylvania, visit them all, in addition, near Cluj there is Turda Salina (a wonder of nature). Near Deva in Transylvania, there are ancient (Dacian) relics. In Brasov, I recommend Peles Castle more than Dracula's Castle. Rucar-Bran, Sinaia and Poiana Brasov are wonders of nature, especially the first, they are mountain resorts.

As an expat Englishman who calls Romania home, I love the country. Bucharest is not a long stay city, get in have a look and go explore the rest of the country, get up to Mara Mures in the far north in the world heritage park areas in the mountains. So much beauty. As for quiet in Bucharest, its also the time of year where Romanians go on holiday and leave the city for the coast at Constanta and Mamaia or they head to Bulgaria's black sea coast, so the city does empty out a bit, plus church day of course. That said, the parks on a Sunday are always full of people just relaxing and always activities on in the parks in Spring and Summer. La Mama is a franchise operation, more than one around town and for me so so. Good luck exploring the rest of Romania, very safe country and great people.

@@OneTireFire Weeks in Bucharest! Sorry my friend but that's my opinion as someone who travels a lot. Don't confuse what I said as negative, I live in Bucharest and love it when many hate it. For me it's a small city that has some major attractions you can see in a couple of days. Once you see old town, piata Unirii, do the big parks, visit parliament, ride the metro, see the museums, that's it. It's a great city for a few days but that's it, get out and see the beauty of the rest of the country where you can definitely spend weeks. We all have opinions mate, the main thing is being polite enough to allow people to express them not tell them to stop saying something.... Bucharest has history but it's not a big city that's the truth. When there is no traffic you can drive across town in 20 minutes easily. So stay safe ...multa sanatate.

It’s a city in a constant development. It’s a mix between the communist buildings and the interbelic period. It’s a nice, very safe city. Lot’s of good restaurants, places to visit. La mama….not that great of a restaurant:). The cities to visit in Romania are Sibiu, Brasov, Timisoara, Iasi and Cluj-Napoca. Oradea is a good candidate, and Alba-Iulia for the fortress

You passed by some big museums, you can check the museum of Romanian villages, it’s in Bucharest and close to the centre, it’s outside and you can see how houses were in Romania 100 years ago. Bucharest is best to visit for the culture.

I am Romanian, F42. That is made from like crushed corn, like at a mill, like for flour = usually just water, salt and some of this corm flour (some add oil/butter/milk, but... not at restaurants, usually). We make it and use it as bread or as some people make just steamed/boiled potatoes/rice/etc. = it is supposed to be neutral. As foods popular here... you could try different "ciorba" (soups), mici (rolls of hamburger patties with mustard and bread/mămăligă (the corn thing you ate), hamsii (tiny fish) with mujdei (garlic sauce) and... mămăligă, home made salata de varză or salata de rosii (cabage salad or tomato salad), murături (pickles), various local cheeses and deli meats and sausages and bread things, as well as different local fish dishes. There is no real "perfectly elegant" way to eat those rolls, though... you did well: the point is food reaching your mouth, as easily as possible (they are minced meat + rice + sometimes vegs like onions/carrots/bell peppers + spices + wrapped in various kinds of leaves + boiled in some tomato/sour juice). 20 dollars for a meal is not so cheap at all... as 20 dollars can feed a family for many days, with stuff like you ate (is less than 10 for huge pots of all you ate). 20 dollars can be a night of accommodations. We are EU, for long, now. That is Schengen, yes. There are no true plans to use Euros, as Romania not really able align prices + nobody really liking even idea of giving up own "coin". That... area of middle video... we call "the old town" of Bucharest. Gang and mafia that one should concern self with... do not make signs - graffiti shows some other things. If, still, on Romania and needing help with anything, please, write in private and I can give phone number and try help with what needed (no money, no meeting, nothing weird + can share ID picture... adress covered). Kids said bad words... not to you, but... in general... they were not of good meaning. Sibiu is much worth seeing. So is Brașov and port side/old city of Constanța and all Dobrogea zone (between Danube and sea) and places around Brașov and Suceava/Iași and Râmnicu Vâlcea etc., of you like city life. Best way to visit Romania is to rent something cheap and good for a year or so and come here, buy (and sell... before leaving) an used car etc.. Have fun! :)

Mashed potatoes, papanași (I don't like them... but people love them) or clătite (like... crepps), corn on the cob... boiled, but, also, grilled, gogoși (donuts + where locals eat them at farmers' fairs, not the Instagram/international versions in malls), fasole bătută (bean hummus) and mancare or ciorba de fasole (Bean stew or bean soup) etc.. Salata orientala/de Beouf (like... salads of boiled vegs)... etc.. Hiking trails are great... but... beware of either bears or vipers. 🙂🙂🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
For drinking alcohol... local wine or craft local type of beer (not craft imitation of international) or must (moo-st = less fermented wine) or boiled wine or țuică (local vodka) or socată (fermented drink made of flowers) or... so various fermented drinks.
