I haven't noticed a difference between the two. It mostly comes down to weight, traction, gearing. I would avoid hydrostatic rear ends. However I've seen some good pullers with hydrostatic. I've seen a predator 212 on a sears suburban beat a 50 hp cub. Once you get the right combination on a strong Tractor, the hp don't matter too much.

@@igormorningstar At the level we pull, no one has a turbo or a super charger. The engine lugs too much to keep them spooled up.
