    Thanks Matt. My PT is a 'modern' car by my standards, so the technique is slightly different to the one I've used up 'til now. Thanks again!

    Hi Matt I've always jump started the PT Cruiser with earth jumper lead on the bonnet catch & have no problems at all in jump starting the PT Cruiser it works every time no problem at all & it's a lot easier & quicker doing the way you do it it's a lot slower & even when jump starting the PT Cruiser from another vehicle I use the same place on the bonnet catch it works every time no problem at all a hell of lot quicker than the way that you do it Matt & when battery was flat &.because I didnt have the money at the time to replace the battery as it was old I just jump started it with a 1200 Amp Jump starter unit Brilliant started every time & have a got a new battery in it now & do have a slight 0.12 Amp battery drain but can still be started on the key the next day no problem at all Kind Regards Peter PS I have to have a look at the fuse holder unit as some stage to find out why I have that amount of voltage drain when I tap the fuse holder box it drops down to 0.08 Amps & has dropped down 0.06 Amps

    I'm just here on the remote chance I have to jump someone with a PT Cruiser. I usually carry a jump pack with me and I'm glad you showed that other grounding location for the negative cable. There no way my jump pack cable are going rech around the front of the car.

    Hi Matt.
    My 05 PT , it's even that color of blue...lol
    My ignition switch was also bad. I would turn the PT off and take the key out and the radio would sometimes stay on, have to put the key in and wiggle it around to make sure the radio was out, then remove the key. Since the I always turn the radio off when I get out, just to be safe.
    I suppose I should replace the switch...lol,
    Maybe do a video on replacing the ignition switch.
    Good video series for this time of year.
    Cheers

      Robert sterling This one isn’t actually exhibiting any symptoms aside from it’s randomly draining the battery, but after some research I’ve found some other owners with the random drain issue & it turned out to be the ignition switch. It makes sense since my dad’s car has done lots of stop & start driving so the switch is likely worn. I actually got 2 switches & I will make a video changing one in this car but this car is a manual & that makes some differences, so I decided to change the one in my car as well as it’s an auto & then I can show the difference. I’m gonna try to get that done & up as a video within 2wks, I’ve got lots on the go currently so I’m a little behind.

    Very detailed instructions for the correct way of connecting and disconnecting cables to any car. Thanks very much. Apparently I didn't know there was a correct way even though I have had to boost a car occasionally. Recently bought my PT Cruiser and not used to covered battery so thought I should take a look. Saw your great video. Thanks for all the detail.

    Run the boosting car so that you don't end up draining its battery and have TWO cars needing a boost (especially in freezing temperatures when batteries lose much of their cranking capacity). Also, because cars crank harder in winter, use the heaviest cables you can afford (no lighter than 6 gauge, far too often I see 10 gauge cables on sale in stores, sometimes even labeled "heavy duty").

    Can I use those same two connection points for the positive and negative on my 2003 PT Cruiser using a trickle charger? Actually my wife is out of town for a while and will need to occasionally trickle charge the car (she sometimes leaves it for weeks without driving it) and she'd never learn how to remove the air filter housing etc to get directly to the battery terminals to trickle charge it with the unit I sent her. And she doesn't want to bother anybody and have them do it for her. Can she use the connections you used for jump starting to leave the trickle charger clips on overnight etc.? It turns off automatically so that's not a problem.

    • @CarswithNash
      @CarswithNash  5 років тому

      Steve McCormick Yes, for sure those hookups will work for that. If it’s a regular occurrence you may wanna get a small unit you can attach permanently, just remove the nuts on the battery clamps and put the wire eyes under each one, then attach the unit under the hood and stash the cord so you can just pull it out and plug in when needed.

      580k!? Wow! That is pretty impressive. Thanks for the sub. I had 3 Town Cars at once for a while, the ‘90 in this vid, a mint ‘91 Cartier and a ‘94 Executive. I have since sold the ‘90, traded the ‘91 but I still have the ‘94, I’ve actually swapped in a 351W/C6 I just have wiring and plumbing left on the swap and I plan on finishing it up this coming summer. My friend’s son is still driving the ‘90 now with around 250k miles.

      @@CarswithNash Awesome. I just used your video a while ago to change the battery on my PT, hoping I won't have to do the alternator as well. If I could find a low mileage town car near me, I would drive it for the rest of my life. I am really a sucker for all the models before 97, with the boxy style. Glad to hear about your collection, I love that cars. The way they drive is just unmatched, although I will say mine was awful in snow.

      @@lndulging9328 Town Cars are pretty common in my area and don’t bring much money, I like them, smooth and comfy but I’m actually not normally a fan of big cars. I’m hoping to have the best of both worlds with my current project an ‘89 Mercedes W124 Coupe I swapped a 302/AOD into. It’s a little smaller than a Town Car, rides a little smoother and handles a little better, but not as reliable in stock form, hopefully my swap has fixed that now.

      @CarswithNash  2 роки тому

      @@lndulging9328 I actually don’t find the Town Cars that horrible in the snow, with good snow tires they do okay, but they don’t give a lot of feedback so it’s hard to know when you’re sliding in when you’re not…

    I need to test my battery and alternator can I run the car with the air box off, or can I test at these locations you jump at?

    • @CarswithNash
      @CarswithNash  3 роки тому +1

      Better to be right on the battery I think for that. You can just pull the whole airbox assembly up out of its mounts, it just pushes in and then you’ll be able to just pull the whole thing up enough to get your tester on the battery, you don’t have to disconnect the airbox or anything so you’ll be able to run the car.
