- Melee gear upgrades can be tough to purchase. Making every piece of gold go as far as possible is going to help your accounts efficiency a tremendous amount. This guide is going to focus on getting the most dps possible out of your melee equipment, although there are times where defence or accuracy are more important (like bossing). This guide will discuss the most useful gear pieces to buy in general; there are niche cases where you would want to buy other gear setups before some of the items discussed.

First minute of video he stated that higher strength bonus means better accuracy. This is inaccurate I formation. See my comment about how accuracy is calculated.

I prioritize primordials over tassets. That way you still get use out of it when you wear proselyte, guthans or dharock. If you are using 100% melee it is extremely rare/niche that you switch out boots but I swap out my leg slot a ton.
That's fair but the extra prayer bonus from bandos is enough that I stopped using proselyte entirely and powered through every task with it. If you are dharoking at nmz definitely grab prims first as you won't be using bandos anyway
Gnomonkey RS primordials change the max hit as a max main due to the attk points over the tassets
i prioritise prims over bcp but not tassets
Who even wears proselyte, just wear full bandos or torso and spend like 20k more gold on pray pots to hit harder. Waste of time questing for that stupid piece of armor

Perfect guide with OBJECTIVE faqs. I used Sara sword for str training for a long while. Best str training item per gp by far. Sirach cudgel is a good bonus item to think about also.

Just a FYI to anyone watching this vid now! Blade of Saeldor is around 80m flat and if you corrupt it then it's around 104m altogether.
Rapier is around 120m so Saeldor is still cheaper even if you corrupt it.
Just dropping a little helpful reminded in case people dont check prices often.

It's a cool idea, but range and mage are so varied that I wonder how to even quantify efficiency
I might make two mage guides for Slayer/bossing but not sure yet, ranged should be doable
Honestly Barrows gloves should be the first goal for anyone. Questing levels up your account very quickly and the boss fights aren’t bad. I got them at like level 54 or so.

As others have stated, very good guide and straight to the point. I also have an idea for a video, while the specific combat styles upgrade are helpful, I think it'll help newer players if you did an all around upgrade progression video. Like, at what point your account is at to upgrade what parts of your combat triangle to get the best overall bang for your buck. I have a friend that just started the game and I've been helping him out with gear recommendations and when and what to skip since he wants to be self sufficient.
I like it but that would be very tough since all of that depends on what content you do, I might do one that is just the gear I used personally

Very nice guide BTW: Primordial boots also increase +2 melee attack bonus accuracy 6:21, when I didnt had big bank I stick with Verac's plateskirt +4 pray, very high defence for 600k yes degradable, but it cost almost nothing like 50k gp per 15 hours of constant fighting, over tassets are good only if u can reach max hit with 2 str(most of time is needed 4 str for 1 dmg) even If I lost 1 dmg still I have +3 pray bonus which saves pray pots and 29+m extra cash in bank for whatever is needed or flipping GE like I did while slaying. When I get blue dragons vorkath i sold tasset etc to buy DHCB, or I get demonic gorilla I sold tasset, wear verac skirt buy bludgeon,sara sword,suffering too complicated so I sticked with skirt until I had bigger bank. Its good to check online when u buy expensive gear if that increase your dmg sometimes I spend alot money for something for example prim boots and I had same max hit like wear guardian boots/dragon boots.

I had thought I could get by with the drastically cheaper imbued warrior's ring since I only use my whip, but this has won me over. I do a lot of slayer, and with the massive accuracy boost from the slayer helm I need all the strength I can get.
Yeah warriors ring is an ok option until you get a serker ring but it is definitely significantly less dps

First off, I love your guides. Always very we'll put together and everything is presented with a clear dialogue with quality video to match. While currently sitting at 96 slayer myself, I only have one issue with the advice this video gives. I have strongly disagree with the suggestion of training strength in nmz. Late game it's actually better to use weapons that incorporates a monsters weakness(focusing on melee only this would be stab slash and crush).
If anything i would suggest staying on task while combat training for that increase in damage and accuracy. By the time you hit 99 slayer almost. If not all of your combat skills will be 99.
Good weapons to check out for training strength-leaf bladed axe, sarachnis cudgel, abysal dagger and for any demon tasks arclight can work wonders.
Also as a side note if i remember correctly the abysal bludgeun has the same attack speed as the whip. So against monsters weak to crush the bludgeun would out dps the whip so still very good option to use for strength training.
Everything I've stated is just my opinion after years of playing and experimenting. But most of my clan has tended to agree with my viewpoints. In game name is AkumaDemon27 feel free to check out my stats. I'm mobile only so I don't have in game dps trackers, just hours of gameplay. Also let me know if any of my observations are incorrect. Also appologies for the extra long comment
The bludgeon is a great choice for crush weak enemies, but in general it is worse than a whip. If you do barrage and/or boss tasks you actually probably won't hit 99 melees from 99 slayer, I'm actually going back to nmz because I'm 95 slayer with base 90 melee stats, it depends what tasks you do of course
@@GnomonkeyRS if you prioritize str first then attack, followed by defense you'll notice a huge spike in the speed at which you gain xp. We have one clan mate that has an untrimmed slayer cape, but he did a lot of boss/jad/cannon and had to intentionally not gain xp to achieve it 😂 I can see if you have a tendency to burst and cannon tasks where melee could fall short. Personally once I maxed range out I started focusing on meleeing a lot of tasks that could be opted out and ranged or cannoned. Ie. Black and greater demons I hit catacombs with arclight for more chances at totems vs cannoning for speed.
Also if using nmz to finish off some 99s by all means go for it for sure. But if you melee them, I'm willing to bet by the time you get those last 4 levels in slayer, you'd moat likeley knock out 2 if not all 3 melee 99s still. Although my advice against nmz is more for people wanting to do nmz from base 70s to 99s. Sure you'll get them fast but most cases I've seen it cause massive burnout mainly if slayer is still mid 70s. Without those mini milestones in combat in between, slayer can feel like an eternity to level up.

Yeah iirc it's efficient to go to about 80 melees at NMZ then do slayer to 99

I feel like there are several tiers of upgrades missing in OSRS.
You go straight from weapons that cost 3m to weapons that cost 150-800m
If there was anything in-between, the price of the end-game weapons would drop/people wouldn't bother spending time to get them. We don't need more weapons & IMO it's the best it's ever been in terms of tiers. EDIT: The Whip is the mainstay melee weapon of OSRS--why change something that isn't broken?
Hangliderzz i agree with you mostly except for str training. The abby dagger is the best str training weapon until rapier and it sucks. I wish they would add an abyssal scimmy or something or add str option to the whip! Thats my only complaint but im saving for a rapier and dhcb so it is what it is
@@tylerb4994 Yeah my acc is at that mid lvl stage & picking an affordable str wep is limited to d scim basically. I'm just grateful that the whip and it are cheap & v good.
@@mrhanglider train your strength lvl like 2m exp ahead of your att and def in nmz with full dh or obby. Then just use the whip on controlled to 99.

Objection to ferocious gloves. if you're mainly doing slayer then bracelet of slaughter/expeditious is very important. Because of this i would prioritize torture amy over ferocious.

Depends on the defence of the monster you fight and whether it gives 1 or 2 max hits for it to be better dps than glory, sometimes even at sand crabs a glory will out dps the strength ammy
dont forget about 400m to pinkclay for a +8 str infernal

the obsidian platelegs in the "intermediate" setup do not change the max hit, you may as well buy the tankiest legs you can afford

I like using a ancient mace before a sgs very good easy to get. As well as proselyte instead of rune armor before bandos. Just my preference though.
I wouldn't use glory/fury, but instead I'd recommend going for str ammy. Str ammy has same strength bonus as torture and is just missing the accuracy. At the point you'd need the accuracy you'd have the money for torture.
Could you do a similar type of guide for making money? I know that sounds dumb but no matter how many money makers I watch or look up I struggle with this.
My banks always been sitting around 20/25m for a while now and don’t understand what I should be doing next.

Best way to make money is rush a Lance or dhcb and do vork or hydra. At lower levels I did a lot of Slayer and giant mole for early cash, the technically efficient thing to do is get money from skills like hunter or runecrafting. I might make a vid on this but there are so many approaches it would have to be generalised
Gnomonkey RS I think a generalised guide is what players like me need, I get too caught up and so many specific methods just some general info of what to be working for next would be ideal!

@@cgrarsenal1153 A generalized guide wont solve your problem. In OSRS, there are countless ways to make a mil~ an hour (depending on stats/quests of course). I can do something like mole and make 800k-1 mil an hour, but it isn't something I personally find enjoyable, so I choose other activities. I can do vorkath and make 2.5-3.5 mil an hour, but I get tired of spamming the same boss fight over an over. Even something like blast mining at 75+ can make you close to a mil an hour if you are efficient, but it is tedious.
You just do what you feel like doing and the gold comes in. The issue with most players isn't that it isn't possible for them to get more gold, but rather that they don't want to do much of anything for long periods of time and lose focus.
Something a lot of people don't do and you didn't mention it as well but you should always be "shuffling" around your gear, as in you should buy d boots/obsidian legs before whip and then sell both when you have enough combined gold for the whip, same deal with the Berserker ring, sell your dboots/obsidian legs for the b-ring when you have enough combined gold and buy them back later.
I also heavily disagree with sgs upgrade, I don't want to say this weapon is overrated but it kinda is. DPS is king, this is true in 99% of scenarios. Unless the bank is very far away you should be using a good dps spec weapon, but with the amount of teleports this game has nowadays you can pretty much bank and go back to any spot within 20 seconds. For slayer I highly recommend just sticking with the DDS as it's the best dps weapon for how much special attack it uses. If you really wanted to use sgs I wouldn't recommend it until you have bandos/prims/torture.
You also should've mention proselyte, if you don't have the GP for bandos you probably also don't have the GP to use piety while training with obsidian legs/torso and proselyte with piety is better then any gear setup without piety. Once you actually have good enough stats and can make good enough gp, then yeah using piety without proselyte becomes well worth it, but I assume if your account is in the early stages you won't have the gear nor stats to actually make good gp/hr.

Did you factor poison damage into the abyssal dagger dps? Ive been using one for a year or so now because I don't want to train my attack or defense
Might be worth mentioning the warrior ring, its only 40k atm (for a slash weapon)
Yeah realized that as I was editing, it's a very small bonus and you would use it for a pretty short time but for 40k there's no reason not to

I keep a Lance on me instead of Bandos+prims because there are a lot of dragon tasks. Doing wyrms is actually more melee xp/hr than rapier slayer, and I'm not max melees yet so I figure it's worth it. Wyrms and drakes are getting superiors, which will also make them worth doing for efficient xp. I can also do Vorkath for money with or without it being on task.
I bought a dhcb before much of this gear, definitely worth getting a money printer before a lot of melee gear

I think I bought SGS before going for a maxed pool. Just using Clan Wars was good enough between tasks and the versatility of SGS to be usable for slayer and bosses made it well worth it in my eyes while I saved up for 83 construction.
@@Popcornio pool is 22-30m (less than an SGS) for lvl 1-83 con and has A LOT more uses.
Sorry, But SGS has lost a lot of it's use for slayer. (But still good for bossing, where claws aren't bis)

Very good guide bro! My only question is when to stop nmz or not do it? Currently im base 75 melee and i really wanna train slayer as well through melee. Im only 50 slayer and im trying to power it through 69 for MM2. Would u recommend i grind it out at base 75 melee/range and 99 mage? Or do nmz for base 90mlee and range before hitting slayer hard? My ultimate goals to get hydra tasks or the high end slayer bosses for profit

Slayer got me from 70 to 90 melee stats roughly, but this depends on what tasks you do

I'm not sure if str affects accuracy because you get more numbers to roll. I've always heard that damage hass 2 rolls, first a roll that decides if you hit or not and then a roll that decides what you hit. but I might be wrong
Great guide, but personally I disagree with buying avernic after the melee weapons. I wouldn’t say buy avernic unless you’re set on your ranged and mage setups as well as have a fairly stable bank. BUT a defender is literally used almost everywhere. U can use extended antifire for dragons and it’s used on almost every slayer task and boss/raids in the game
It's true but it also has the downside of being not able to sell it back, it's a tough call
I would probably say for people to get Saeldor over Rapier for the fact that if people start learning ToB, they already have a BiS slash weapon (ignoring scythe assuming that's what they're grinding for) and a lot of other monsters are weak to slash as well, for the monsters that are weak to stab while training slayer, a blowpipe is great when doing slayer for fast xp, not sure how it compares to rapier but i'm assuming it's better xp-wise
Saeldor is kind of annoying in that it doesn't poison for p2 verzik so you need a serp helm and it's only like 3% more dps than tent whip, I think the rapier is the way to go now that I've actually done some TOB

That's the slayer plugin, tick highlight targets and it will highlight monsters that match your task

Is the Sara sword useful for players with 99 con? I had one for a while but I found it to be too unreliable to warrant trying to save a minute or so every 10 mins.

So my friend refuses to do Barb assault. Since he won’t be getting the torso, would bcp be worthwhile to buy before anything else or before the recommended time?
Expedition/slaughter are used for almost all tasks if you're slaying efficiently, so I don't think ferocious gloves are a worthy first upgrade (if you're slayer focused, of course)
That's true and for the melee tasks that are good for xp you kill the monsters too fast to do glove swaps, if you are using bracelets it's prob best to skip that for sure
