a you also skipped Mystic Smoke Staff. While it can't cast auto-cast ancient magicks, it provides a solid 10% damage bonus which helps you get a higher max hit.
In the slayer section you also didn't mention the staff of the dead. Cant auto-cast Ancients, but it does provide a 12.5% damage boost and a 1/8 to not use runes. niche, but its my favorite mid-high magic weapon.

It's worth noting that you do not need a book of darkness to get the +5 prayer bonus. Any damaged book, costing 5000gp from Jossik in the lighthouse, provides a +5 prayer bonus.

I hadn't considered a lot of this. I almost always used elite void robes because "well, that's magic armor, right?" but if the enemy has negative magic defense I will absolutely start using proselyte since 10k+ per prayer potion is still ludicrous.
Small niche item for the slayer bit: White boots for +1 prayer. They're practically free, but require wanted and 800 black knight kills. I also use them for times I use mage in the wilderness like Scorpia or Archeologist.
This puzzle me quite a bit, since I've literally done the opposite of some of the things this guide recommend, and had it work out extremely well. I'll explain. In 2019 onwards i rebooted the game and got grinding. Steel dragon tasks made me so pissed i decided to go for 99 magic. Having obtained ancients, i scouted over all the bonus gear pieces but also looked for the perfect bursting victims to maul for a week to 99 while boredom would spike my insanity further. So i got most of the start pieces, but went to the kodai ASAP. Why? Because i recognized that my magic accuracy was so freaking low with the prayer robes on and basic low end gear, it would be extremely much more beneficial to instead remove 1 inventory slot for water runes and bring a pray pot instead. I never used the holy wrench btw, ring of the gods(i) is definitely best in slot there. However picking up coins all day also lower your xp rate and so the blessed robes became superior fast. Mitre, sure. Devout boots, sure. Book of darkness, nice. But holy wraps in the glove slot became my solution there, seeing as how when you farm nechs you actually do get the runes to keep on killing them further on except for water runes. Therefore, this all greatly extended my trips while providing more magic bonus AND i was able to earn A significant profit as the grind rose my magic level extremely fast. At a point i earned so much I'd have my alt get member and alc everything for a stellar profit and 100% uptime on my trips. This is when i upgraded towards most of the rest of his listed BIS, but the ancestral weren't even considered what so ever because of how i did all of these kills off task. And prayer uptime was critical due to lower level and no wrench used. Eventually i became so good at doing my nechryael grind, i am pretty sure i could get 200m xp with relative ease but i'd rather keep doing slayer - my original goal at the time of my account. I did learn many smaller tricks people don't know of when doing the grind so I'll mention 1 obvious of them here. The Bulwark's spec attack can pull an entire room of nechs with 50% spec attack utilized. This allow you to grind them so incredibly fast, run energy to stack them as well as having enough spec% left CAN become starved. The more reason to do agility prior and at least be lv55 to 65 before starting any such intensive grind. Anyways, if you KNOW you are going to burst and later barrage Nechs, jellies or dust devils; the Kodai wand is insanely powerful and will conserve money (jellies), make you go even (dust devils) or let you earn money when on task (nechs in the catacombs). Ez 99, my only regret was to not go with defensive bursting instead to gain metric tons of defense levels as well.

I think the magic accuracy loss from proselyte is understated. Yes it's not a big difference on a single target but every hit of barrage is rolled independently. So the loss in accuracy is actually to the power of how many things you're hitting. Aka you will use more runes on a task which is kind of counterproductive seeing how you're trying to save more prayer pots over vestments. I don't think the difference is huge, but it's something to consider.
A nice in-between boot would be the brimstone boots. As you said magic doesn't exist in a vacuum and the boots are fantastic for anything that you hybrid/tribrid and they are much better than mystic boots.
Monster Magic defense is only their magic defense now not their magic level. I believe mod ash tweet it out and it was changed due to tbow For bursting the bonus damage is only on the 1 monster that you are barraging. It's better to just switch out occult for God stole or dragombone necklace for more prayer bonus. For bracelet slot consider Slaughter bracelet on task
Hm never heard of this, went and checked and with charge auto-casting flames of zammy it has an equal max hit to trident of the swamp at level 98. Keep in mind it has a lot higher spell cost because that takes 2 blood runes and you have to cast charge, but that is surprisingly good for lower levels
Although I'm a bit late. The guide for the 'boss' damage is based off zulrah, I have a suggestion for zulrah only boots. I recommend Boots of Brimstone over Eternals, for one main reason. ( at least till you can afford both pegs and eternals ) the reason for accuracy for both magic AND ranged. Oh, and decent defenses, I know this is a gp:dps ratio type guide. they're marginal at best for both, and they're mainly to save a slot for swaps. If you can after pegs/eternals they're outshined dps wise. While this information isn't exactly pertaining to the topic, it's still a choice well worth considering to save money for this particular instance.

The passive effect on the brimstone ring is very small and typically is worse dps than a seers ring against the bosses you attack since they typically have pretty low magic defence, the exception to this is in raids in some cases because it also gives ranged and melee bonuses, it's a great tribrid ring if you don't want to bring ring switches
I personally don't mind gear switches, but some people in my CC swear by it, even for things like dust/smoke devil/nechryael bursting. Any way you could see this rationalised or are they, as I suspect, not entirely knowledgeable on how magic, magic accuracy and magic defence interact?
It's definitely not worth using for bursting because the monsters have no defence to punch through, it might be worth calculating for Zulrah but that's the only place it could be even comparable to seer's ring
Sanguinesti staff is very good for killing Kalphite Queen. Would recommend those who are grinding KQ give it a shot. no switching make it quite relaxing and you can have more kills per trip

Harmonising nightmare staff is 15% dps boost according to your video. How is that small. Even for that huge of a price diff its still wuite significant if you ask me
The only reason I mage is to burst (I use proselyte) and zulrah for the pet. I've managed over 3k kills so far with elite void. I did the calcs and ancestral is only marginally better, but when I tested it I was thrown off because I needed to bring an extra super restore, plus the switches were more intensive. I didn't think it was worth it so I sold it all and went back to elite void. Magic is so under-developed
nah not overpriced. It's extremely rare aswell as being new, and giving 2 max hits over sang staff while overloaded, and you don't lose max hits when brewed down. That's not overpriced, that's completely fair.
Unfortunately, going to have to disagree with a few points on this one. If you are bursting, you shouldn't be using proselye, the small prayer bonus is not really all that useful or worth it as you have the catacombs for bursting. Using a bonecrusher will not really even require any ppots to be used. The god robes are much better in that regard for time savings!
Also, wouldn't the best upgrade using tridents/staves be actually increasing magic lv? As long as its < 30m to 99 I'd say that's better dps over ancestral.
I don't understand why people priortize prayer when bursting? IMO you should be bursting down in the MM2 Caves. They drop near constant prayer pots, so you'll never run out of prayer. Maxing Magic DPS will net you the best GP/XP while maintaining very high XP/HR rates. I haven't maxed Magic, but I've been chinning lately and currently with welfare chins I am getting around 2.55 XP/GP using a setup that maxes ranged DPS. I am also getting 400k+ XP / HR as well. Maxing prayer bonus just seems like you're bleeding money when you do not have to.
Sure if you have infinite prayer anyways like in the caves with a bone necklace then you should grab magic accuracy, in every other case prayer bonus is the priority
yeah, maniacals are extremely good, but there is one additional option to use bonecrusher necklace if you want to pick up and somehow bank all the pots, and even if not - you literally never run out of prayer and can afk the whole time, coming back only for aggro resets, unfortunately you have to sacrifice the juicy occult. maximum dps vs literally maximum afk, choose one :D

To figure that out you would need to calculate the gp/dps at zulrah and figure out if the mage's books extra damage is making up for the lost prayer potions, I feel like the book of darkness should be better profit/hr but they are so close for 5m I probably wouldn't bother

Yeah, book of balance is an ok alternative for lower level players as it is -6 mage attack but +4 in all defensive stats and only costs about 15k.

What about brimstone ring as a seers replacement? I would think its worth mentioning, as it’s nice to camp with it on at cox.
That's basically it's only use, I'm fairly certain it's worse dps than seer's in every place you use magic

It's probably better to just take it in your inventory as that 12 mage bonus is decently significant compared to 1 pray bonus

Kodai is marginally more dps and saves money, so if you can afford it use it, but I would definitely buy ancestral before a kodai

Also, wouldn't the best upgrade using tridents/staves be actually increasing magic lv? As long as its < 30m to 99 I'd say that's better dps over ancestral.

I don't understand why people priortize prayer when bursting? IMO you should be bursting down in the MM2 Caves. They drop near constant prayer pots, so you'll never run out of prayer. Maxing Magic DPS will net you the best GP/XP while maintaining very high XP/HR rates.
I haven't maxed Magic, but I've been chinning lately and currently with welfare chins I am getting around 2.55 XP/GP using a setup that maxes ranged DPS. I am also getting 400k+ XP / HR as well. Maxing prayer bonus just seems like you're bleeding money when you do not have to.
Sure if you have infinite prayer anyways like in the caves with a bone necklace then you should grab magic accuracy, in every other case prayer bonus is the priority
yeah, maniacals are extremely good, but there is one additional option to use bonecrusher necklace if you want to pick up and somehow bank all the pots, and even if not - you literally never run out of prayer and can afk the whole time, coming back only for aggro resets, unfortunately you have to sacrifice the juicy occult.

To figure that out you would need to calculate the gp/dps at zulrah and figure out if the mage's books extra damage is making up for the lost prayer potions, I feel like the book of darkness should be better profit/hr but they are so close for 5m I probably wouldn't bother
