Planning on using the Ultraglide 1 for a 50 K this spring. Its an extremely good and affordable trail shoe, with lots of cushion. In my opinion this and the Speedgoat is most bang for bucks when it comes to trail shoes.
I did my fist 50k with a pair of Ultra Glides (version 1), and they were absolutely amazing! I only ran 1 or 2 miles in them prior. I would 100% choose them over the speedgoat.
QD: funny, I bought a pair of Ultra Glide 1 last Friday. I wanted to give it a try, and the price dropped was too good to miss! I was looking for comfort for a 110 km run (QMT 110 next July), and the fit of Salomon shoes are always great on my feet. Nice to know the 1 is better than the 2!
QD: Just purchased another pair of the Salomon Ultra Glide 1. Found them for $59 on Sierra Trading post. I really like this shoe.

QD: The last trail shoe I bought was Saucony Xodus ultra. Thought I would give it a shot because it cost only 80€. Good comfort and pop but the fit is not the most precise. Definitely not suitable for any kind of technical terrain.
Hi seth, bought the saucony xodus ultra , last year. Great shoe for all terrain, in muddy conditions as well as mountain/ rock, easy ultra tempo. Even on the road, feels perfect. Bit stretchy upper, so not for fast / technical racing ;) currently at very attractive price-point.

I've also got my eye on the Hoka speedgoat 5, Salomon Ultra Glide 1 and 2 ,Salomon Pulsar Trail,Asics Fuji lite 3 , but overall I want a shoe that I can run up to 50k on trail and technical terrains with some milage on the pavement to reach the trails.
QD: Salomon Glide Max TR. Ordered it to be a long run shoe, but have been using it a lot as I come back from a knee injury. All that midsole means I don't feel the ground AT ALL. Great shoe, looking forward to what you have to say about it.
I have that one, too. It's soft, but doesn't ride as nicely as the Ultra Glide 2. So it is a bit redundant for me. Funnily, I think it would have benefitted from the quick lace system, had to fiddle around a lot to get the best fit and comfort. I got the almond-gold colorway which looks much better in practice than on photos. For max cushion I still prefer my Caldera 6. Also, I am about to run out of money for more shoes. 😎
QD: Saucony Xodus Ultra Runshield back in November for those late fall/early winter trails plus have them for the spring trails coming up. Favorite trail shoe last year!
QD: Xodus Ultra 2, as the first one was one of the best trail shoes of '22, and it's lost weight. Maiden voyage on trails happens today! (You're going to love the Trabuco Max 2, as long as you don't run across scree or talus too much).
QD: Salomon S/Lab Pulsar. First CC race in 34 years: Champs Midwest Regional Open. 3rd for my age group. Did my home work that started at DGR and used the link to give a guy from Colorado some credit 😉, 1/2 size bigger to accommodate my orthotics. Which took 2 purchases and a good return policy! I use GORE-TEX commuter/trail shoes for running in cold, wet, snowy, and icy New England conditions. My Hoka Speedgoat 4 GTXs recently began to leak and I replaced them with the Nike Pegasus Trail 4 GORE-TEX. It was hard to decide between the Nike and the Saucony Ride 15 TR GTX, but I ultimately chose the Nike because I already have the Saucony Ride 15 non-GTX and was able to find the Nike for $96 versus the Ride's $160 price. I did not consider the Hoka Speedgoat 5 GTX because I'm using 8-10mm drop shoes to avoid calf and Achilles issues. I've been enjoying the Nikes, which have a nice feel on local bike paths and trails.
Here in the Smoky Mountain area, I love a rock plate. So i purchased Brooks Cascadia 16. Coming from Nike zegama and asics trabuco max. it's a bit firmer than I'm used to. I had to play with laces to get a good lockdown, but I love the quality, drain ports, lugs, and protection. I've not done over 10 yet in them, but I'm hoping to this upcoming weekend.
I can sum up Ultra Glide 2 vs Trabuco Max 2 for you. The Max is dampening, but funnily not cushioning much. Very stiff. The UG2 is yay, the Trabuco Max 2 was a disappointment. I ended up rather using the Trabuco 11 non-max.
Actually, considering the... Endorphin Edge, exactly at the price of Ultra Glide¹. Now equal on 💰 is this a better shoe than UG? OR is still better to get UG¹ with a good discount deal? OR, option 3, stick to my original plan - getting a reliable Xodus Ultra² ? So that is my QD or QM (query of the month) 😅
QD: bought a pair of Dynafit Ultra 100s, mostly because they are on sale, they got some great reviews, and I wanted to try something different for long runs. And despite crazy sizing (had to go up 1.5), I really, really like them. Extremely comfortable but also very lively for the amount of cushioning.
I loved this shoe! BUT… I’ve never returned a pair of running shoes as usually they last at least 250+ miles (especially Salomon last forever), but the outsole rubber is so cheap on this model it weared down to the midsole before 100 miles. From the looks of your review they haven’t updated that so I guess I will have to keep waiting on Salomon to sturdy that on up.
I also picked up an extra pair of ultra glides on the cheap. They are by far my favourite winter running shoes. They are great in extreme cold, and on all kinds of surfaces. I just wish they made a shield version.
QD: Saucony Peregrine 11. I bought those as a replacement for my Peregrine 10s, which were a replacement for my Peregrine 9s. This has been my go-to shoe for my three runs of the Whiskey Row Marathon in Prescott, AZ. It was decent on pavement (the first and last parts of the race), but all models of the shoe really shone during the middle part of the race where there was lots of elevation change on dirt and unconsolidated terrain (see footage of Seth running the mountains for similar). I was always somewhat mystified when sales folks in running stores asked me about my color preference for the Peregrines, since they were quickly and irrevocably going to become dirt colored...
my last purchase: Novablast 3 TR 🤣 I finished a road half marathon in light rain with it. no problem much better grip than regular nb3. I think it's more like road running shoes with capability of running on unpaved road or well-maintained trail， definitely Not for rocky road or anything very technical.
The thing I struggled with on the Ultra Glide 1 (and I assume they didn’t change the 2) is the shoe lace garage placement. It seems like the tongue isn’t long enough to easily get the rolled lacing system into the garage without some effort. Anyone else have this issue?
Totally agree with this design flaw. It makes the shoes a pain to get on and off due to the short tongue. It's a pity because I actually love how the shoe feels, although they wear very quickly.
@@garyarbuthnot8142 The Pulsar racing shoe is also a struggle fest to get on but feels good once it’s on. I think I burn more calories trying to get into that shoe than the actual run 😂
:QD: Nike Pegasus Trail 4 GTX. I'm not normally a Nike fan, but this felt great on foot and comfortable. I don't run gnarly trails right now so it isn't too bad. I bought the UG1 when it came out, but it hurt my foot so much that I sent it back.

Nike Peg 4 Trail Gore-Tex. Similar footbed to that of one of their military boots.

I’ve had this issue as well. I actually love this shoe, but this detail is certainly irritating.
