Since opening its doors in 1992, Mall of America® has revolutionized the shopping experience of tens of millions of visitors a year. A leader in retail, entertainment and attractions, Mall of America is one of the top tourist destinations in the country and is known around the world.
History
In 1982, the Minnesota Twins and Vikings relocated from the Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington to the H.H.H. Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis. This created an unprecedented development opportunity for 78 acres of prime real estate. Three years later, the Bloomington Port Authority purchased the stadium site and began entertaining proposals for development. Mall of America was chosen from four final proposals, and on June 14, 1989, developers and local dignitaries broke ground. On August 11, 1992, when Mall of America® opened its doors, 330 stores opened for business and more than 10,000 employees started their first day of work.
Today
Mall of America hosts more than 400 events a year, ranging from concerts, to celebrity appearances and fashion shows. Each year, 40 million people from around the world visit the mall, generating nearly $2 billion each year in economic impact for the state.

I was a Security Guard there for 2 years. I easily walked 10 to 15 miles a shift. But I was 18 so I never complained. Great place to work. Pay was very good. And they treated us right

I was there when I was very young, back when the amusement park was Camp Snoopy instead of a Nickelodeon Theme park. I also did the underwater aquatic tour. You go through a tunnel with water, and fish all around you. You wear headphones that talk about what you are seeing. It looks like they changed up the mall it seems. Each side look very different from the West, to South, to East, to North. It has been awhile since I have been back there.

I've been to plenty of big malls around the world but I never seen a mall this big before.
I spent so many days in this place throughout my life. I left the twin cities back in 2015. It's crazy, so many stores are in the exact same places 🙏🏾
I was born and raised in Twin Cities, I moved from there to Texas when I was 7 years old, Sometimes I wished I still lived in Minnesota

I visited the Mall of America with my family from New Zealand in June this year. lt is a great idea to have the adventure playground in the centre of the mall so everyone can find it. Even then l got lost because it is so huge with three floors that all look the same! 😁

A little disappointed. I expected the mall to be a bit more colorful, have a little pazaz so to speak. The place looks a little sterile like a hospital or office building. Maybe Christmas decorations would help ?
It used to be entirely different back in the 90s. It had magic back then. Now it is bland and bleak and pathetic.

The "concept" of all those stores in one place is awesome! But I will say as far as Malls go, this is one of the ugliest Malls I have seen. All that white. No trees. No attention to lighting, colors, and music. Very few kiosks. Plus who can walk all those miles with no place to sit down? I think I saw only one bench/couch.

These videos without commentary aren't very good. It is more interesting when someone is talking and explaining things that haven't been there. Is very boring without the commentary. Won't watch long.
Thanks for your opinion, but these videos are meant not to have commentary. Check out the about section of my channel. My videos basically catalog a moment in time as the events unfolded. Unfiltered if you will, so that viewers get a sense of walking through the space themselves. I'm sure if you keep looking you will find videos with loads of commentary to your liking ;)

This is not the MOA of the 90s or even early 2000s. Not even close. A completely different mall and experience entirely! The old mall, before the overhaul, was magical. Something which will never return.

@@austinmurphy3232 West Edmonton is still themed right? MOA use to be themed as well but they did renovations over the years and determined that the theming was unnecessary so they went with a "clean" look. The new American Dream mall however looks way cooler than West Edmonton

I don't want to be mean, but today I also watched a video like this of the Global Centre Mall located in Chengdu,China and what strikes me at first sight is the fact that people in the US are way too fat, it is really unhealthy for them and it is sad from my point of view, especially because it was the first difference that popped into my eyes.

Yep. People in America sometimes make poor decisions about health. But people in China aren't "in shape" or skinny because of choice. People living in communist nations don't have the options we have here in the states. Most people in China are probably lucky to eat. And it's quite surprising to see a few faces without face diapers on in this video. After all, the Mall of America is in a communist state. The state of minneapolis. Might as well be China.
