Finally, a UA-camr who is a color match with me! I have just started using ELDW for the first time (53 year old, newly dry skin from Retin A). I put it on with a damp sponge and it covers beautifully and stays all day! It's like a miracle after all the foundations I've tried! I ended up buying the Light, and I’m loving it. I’m 45, have a really oily Tzone, and work in a hospital, so Foundation slides off my nose and chin by lunchtime. Elsewhere I’m getting a wee bit dryer. DW Light Soft Matte is a miracle - lasts 14 hrs plus on me.

Doublewear is simply the best full face of makeup I’ve ever seen, there are sooo many foundations and yet this still holds it’s own. I miss wearing foundation but wearing a mask has made it impossible. I have back up bottles of DW I hope there still good. Thanks for your in-depth review, even on camera DW makes you look flawless.

Yayyyy at last someone on UA-cam doing a up-to-date review on eldw!!!!! The original dw is my everyday everywhere makeup. Best applied with beauty blender,The Ordinary silicone primer and mix in 3 drops of No7 foundation drops = long lasting perfection 💕👌😍
Gemma, I am always on the hunt for my holy grail foundation, so go back to watch videos that you've done that I may have missed the first time around. I do follow several, and have to say that you are so very charming, real, detailed, and that it is much appreciated the time it must take to make each video. Also MUCH appreciated, is, not only that you do the natural light test, but that you actually zoom in close enough that lines and imperfections are visible to your viewers. As a 52 yo woman who didn't always pay much attention to her skin, and probably still don't as much as I should, I appreciate the acknowledgement that makeup lighting does lend itself to showing as "more flawless" as compared to in-real-life lighting. It is quite refreshing and I believe women of any age can benefit from reviews that show how products perform in real life, in normal home or office lighting, on skin that isn't, on it's own, smooth as silk. I think your mom should start her own channel, too!

Gemma, long time fan, went back in time for this review. It was a great and thorough as expected. Surprised at how balanced and bright you look. Yes, I noticed the 4yr age difference. However, it was the warm tones in your hair that caught my eye. 😊

I have to throw out my Estee Lauder youth perfectionist because they are over two years old - not sure how long they are good for but I'm thinking two years might be the limit. My skin does tend to get congested so I like that the DW light will not clog pores plus it lasts all day if I need it to. After so many years of trying different foundations in my 55 years I think that Estee Lauder makes the best foundations.
I am in love and use the original Estée Lauder and it has always been amazing for me since I live in the desert and it’s hot as hell!! My makeup is always looking amazing and people always ask me what I use. I have ever had problems with pores or breaking out or anything. I swear by this makeup and the Marc Jacobs makeup 👌🏼

This may be just a thing with the 3N1 shades, but actually 3N1 is darker in the DWL Soft Matte Hydra vs. the Original DW! Anyway, I have crazy dry skin and can't tolerate the Original DW all day long but have discovered I can get the best of both worlds if I MIX the two. Love ELDW! Hi, ladies, I have changed to Estée Lauder youth perfectionist , from double wear, the perfectionist has serum in, before I changed I mixed my a few drops of night repair just to use up my double wear , I absolutely adore my new foundation. Worth a try ! Regards Liz.
That is the foundation that I have. Mine are, I have two colors, over 2 years old though, the bottles are so big so I've only used about a 1/4 of the bottle, so I will probably need to get new ones or the double wear light. I was on a cruise when I tried it first. The foundation I took, an RCMA foundation, was looking horrible on my dry patches so I went to the beauty shop on the boat and found the Estee Lauder. I fell in love with the look it gave my skin.

Fabulous as usual! Double Wear Light discontinued ....nooooo😩 Shade 1C0 very cool pinky shade for fair skin . The original Double Wear equivalent 1C0 definitely a shade darker. 💗

It’s discontinued so after I finish it I need to buy something else. Old version looks so great on my skin and I’m so curious how the new version will look like! It’s not yet in the stores in the Netherlands though 😔 I’m also using 2N1 in DW, so would be nice to try the new version in the same shade!
Awesome video! I absolutely adore double wear light foundation, and have worn it religiously for ages. It sits well on the skin without letting oiliness shine through, has long-lasting wear with minimal transferral (especially with masks in the mix), and I love the “airbrushed” semi matt finish (although a higher SPF would have been brilliant… ). I cannot believe they are discontinuing it! Do you know of any other foundation, with a similar finish, which does the hydrating oil control so well? It took me ages to find this foundation, and now I’m right at back at the beginning. 😫
I just pulled out DW light out recently and remembered how much I loved it. I wanted to cry when I found out it was discontinued. They claim futurist is the alternative.

I'm 56 and I love the original double wear, love the most the transfer resistance. I hate when foundation is coming of on my fingers when I touch my face. Applied with a damp beautyblender it even works under my eyes very well, of course just a small amount of it. Your mom is so gorgeous, her eyes are beautiful, and she has awesome lashes 💕☺️
I prefer the Estee Lauder Double Wear Light as well. I am a lady of 61 who has normal to dry skin and who has vertical laughter lines on both sides of my mouth. I also have crow's feet at both outer sides of my eyes, some lines under my eyes but not much and one vertical line between my eyes but close to my right eye. No forehead lines and to be honest i have had quite a lot of comp,iments about the state of my skin with them guessing my age to be about 42. When i tell them that i am actually 61 they are always shocked! So you see i am very interested in all of your foundation reviews x

This was so helpful. I switched to the Light in the last couple of months because the Original was too cakey on my skin. I’m now thinking my problem (oily skin) is how much product I’m applying (too much) and the setting powder I’m using (also Estée Lauder). Going to search your channel for more info on setting!
Hi, your channel was recommended to me recently and this is the first video I’ve watched, it was fantastic! I have been wearing double wear light for years and have yet to try the new version. As I’ve got older (52) I really struggle with large pores. I have dry skin, what primer would you recommend and is it better to apply DWL with a damp beauty blender or a foundation brush, many thanks
The Estee Lauder Primer is nice, but I haven't tried enough primers to make a recommendation. The DWL can be applied with either a brush or sponge. xxx
I realize this video is already over a year old but still very worthwhile and informative. You do such a nice job evaluating both of these foundations!! I’ve been using the original formula of Double Wear Light for at least 10 years. I’m glad you explained why users have been unhappy with the new formula with the hyaluronic acid. I’ve been buying the old formula on Amazon and the price keeps going up! I’m not sure I like the tacky feel of other products that contain hyaluronic acid. I worry the regular Double Wear would increase my bumps and clog pores, etc. Anyway the problem I have is when it’s humid and I am sweating, I feel like my spf moisturizer slides right off. You mentioned both foundations do well with humidity so it makes me wonder if my spf moisturizer is the culprit. Do you or others have recommendations on SPF moisturizers that I can use under my foundation? I have been using Neutrogena’s Visibly Even Daily Moisturizer with Sunscreen for years.
Gemma you talked about the double Wear light in one of your most recent videos so I got my hands on some (old I’m sure haha) and it’s the best thing I’ve ever used. What the heck WHY would they discontinue this!!!
Fabulous thorough review! Am I the only one who doesn’t find the original double wear to be transfer resistant? The DW Light wears WAY better on my dry, 38 y.o. Skin. The original DW gets patchy and cakey on me as the day wears on. If I wipe my finger across my face there will be a stark finger print where the foundation rubbed off and I can not smudge it out or blend it back in because it dries down so hard. Both do a fabulous job minimizing pores initially but the Original DW starts to lose the flattering effect as it gets cakey, whereas the Light version looks just as good on me hours later. I just wish the Light had the same shade range as the original. If I had a perfect shade match in the light it would be my all time holy grail.
I have really dry skin but love the double wear. When I finish putting the foundation on I then press the foundation into the skin with my fingers and it stops any cakeness and makes my skin look flawless. I am also 42 so my skin is definitely maturing !

Old version looks so great on my skin and I’m so curious how the new version will look like! It’s not yet in the stores in the Netherlands though 😔 I’m also using 2N1 in DW, so would be nice to try the new version in the same shade!

Awesome video! I absolutely adore double wear light foundation, and have worn it religiously for ages. It sits well on the skin without letting oiliness shine through, has long-lasting wear with minimal transferral (especially with masks in the mix), and I love the “airbrushed” semi matt finish (although a higher SPF would have been brilliant… ). I cannot believe they are discontinuing it!
Do you know of any other foundation, with a similar finish, which does the hydrating oil control so well? It took me ages to find this foundation, and now I’m right at back at the beginning. 😫
I just pulled out DW light out recently and remembered how much I loved it. I wanted to cry when I found out it was discontinued. They claim futurist is the alternative.

I'm 56 and I love the original double wear, love the most the transfer resistance. I hate when foundation is coming of on my fingers when I touch my face. Applied with a damp beautyblender it even works under my eyes very well, of course just a small amount of it. Your mom is so gorgeous, her eyes are beautiful, and she has awesome lashes 💕☺️

I prefer the Estee Lauder Double Wear Light as well. I am a lady of 61 who has normal to dry skin and who has vertical laughter lines on both sides of my mouth. I also have crow's feet at both outer sides of my eyes, some lines under my eyes but not much and one vertical line between my eyes but close to my right eye. No forehead lines and to be honest i have had quite a lot of comp,iments about the state of my skin with them guessing my age to be about 42. When i tell them that i am actually 61 they are always shocked! So you see i am very interested in all of your foundation reviews x

This was so helpful. I switched to the Light in the last couple of months because the Original was too cakey on my skin. I’m now thinking my problem (oily skin) is how much product I’m applying (too much) and the setting powder I’m using (also Estée Lauder). Going to search your channel for more info on setting!

Hi, your channel was recommended to me recently and this is the first video I’ve watched, it was fantastic! I have been wearing double wear light for years and have yet to try the new version. As I’ve got older (52) I really struggle with large pores. I have dry skin, what primer would you recommend and is it better to apply DWL with a damp beauty blender or a foundation brush, many thanks
The Estee Lauder Primer is nice, but I haven't tried enough primers to make a recommendation. The DWL can be applied with either a brush or sponge. xxx

I realize this video is already over a year old but still very worthwhile and informative. You do such a nice job evaluating both of these foundations!! I’ve been using the original formula of Double Wear Light for at least 10 years. I’m glad you explained why users have been unhappy with the new formula with the hyaluronic acid. I’ve been buying the old formula on Amazon and the price keeps going up! I’m not sure I like the tacky feel of other products that contain hyaluronic acid. I worry the regular Double Wear would increase my bumps and clog pores, etc. Anyway the problem I have is when it’s humid and I am sweating, I feel like my spf moisturizer slides right off. You mentioned both foundations do well with humidity so it makes me wonder if my spf moisturizer is the culprit. Do you or others have recommendations on SPF moisturizers that I can use under my foundation? I have been using Neutrogena’s Visibly Even Daily Moisturizer with Sunscreen for years.

Gemma you talked about the double Wear light in one of your most recent videos so I got my hands on some (old I’m sure haha) and it’s the best thing I’ve ever used. What the heck WHY would they discontinue this!!!
Fabulous thorough review! Am I the only one who doesn’t find the original double wear to be transfer resistant? The DW Light wears WAY better on my dry, 38 y.o. Skin. The original DW gets patchy and cakey on me as the day wears on. If I wipe my finger across my face there will be a stark finger print where the foundation rubbed off and I can not smudge it out or blend it back in because it dries down so hard. Both do a fabulous job minimizing pores initially but the Original DW starts to lose the flattering effect as it gets cakey, whereas the Light version looks just as good on me hours later. I just wish the Light had the same shade range as the original. If I had a perfect shade match in the light it would be my all time holy grail.
I have really dry skin but love the double wear. When I finish putting the foundation on I then press the foundation into the skin with my fingers and it stops any cakeness and makes my skin look flawless. I am also 42 so my skin is definitely maturing !
