Lead and low lead was up to the 80s. Unleaded came around in 75 for cat converter vehicles.
more
i own a 1970 dart :) love to see this and more
I remember leaded and unleaded pumps up to he early 80s. Its strange they still call it unleaded, since its been so long since it was by itself.
We have put a 4 barrel on a 2 barrel intake on a Nissan 200SX with a 2.4 4cyl and it ran like a spotted ape dirt track racing in Forest Hill Louisiana mini stock
You're such a stud 🤘😘
Luke’s brain is running lean after that starter removal.
There's a "Deadhead System" joke in here somewhere
Dylan I'm surprised that you weren't there brother you are the mopar expert
People have no idea how agrovating removing a started on an old mopar is
this series is awesome guys. Y'all need to continue to collaborate. Your personalities mesh perfectly for you tube content.
Boys are renting a storage unit together in Ames, Iowa. I'm sure they'll have lots more vids together in the future.
Larry Croft I’d suggest “vice grip garage”
When two guys know each other too well:
"I just relized my #### was sticking out"
Thats good stuff lol.
Always good to be guarding your stubbie near the barbie.
I about did a spit take like Luke did when Kevin said that! Between that and the "grab a stubby mate, you're a legend", I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe! 😂
Each consecutive episode is a deeper and deeper descent into madness 😂👊
Rabbit hole
Thing sounds surprisingly healthy considering the condition it was in.
318's are funny like that. They sound great, but are kinda wimpy in stock form.
@@That_AMC_Guy Sounds kinda like Ford modulars, too! More bark than bite!😎 And I'm a Ford guy (for the most part)!😎 I'd like having a healthy 390 AMC AMX.
lol just having a hydration session with his meat cigarette hanging out😂🤣
Long as no one smokes it, we’re all enjoying watching!
Man, more like a CIG. Butt !
I know Vice Grip does stuff on a budget, but I've never seen him go to "sleeping in a van and eating MREs" budget. You guys are next level.
@The devil Made me do it I hate hearing "a guy"
Your Satellite has been standing longer than I've been alive and it runs, the car I'm working on now has been stood 10 years and the engine is stuck so hard it needs a tear down.
You lucky bastards!
Great series, keep it up!
What car?
@@ixionn563 It's a Vauxhall Victor FB
@@GemmaLB 50/50 mix of acetone and trans fluid in the bores for a week. turn it back and forth until you can make a full revolution.
@@benniethejew Thanks, I'll give that a go :)
@@GemmaLB did it work?
The hydration segment was my favorite. This whole series has been amazing. I can't wait for the rest!
Luke's spit take into the fire was awesome.
You guys are hilarious!!! I am a retired ASE master tech and High School Auto Shop teacher and I just love this backyard engineering stuff. By the way, in 1972 I put a Holley 4bbl carb on a 318 2bbl manifold, just like you guys did, on friends 1967 Satellite. he picked up1.5 sec in the quarter. Ran a bit rich, but he was really happy with it.
camping, wrenching, eating, fires.... absolute HEAVEN. I need to do this.
I did a 4 barrel to 2 barrel swap on a 77 Lincoln Mark V with the 460, I used an intake off a 73 Marquis Brougham with the 429. Ran great after I got all the vacuum leaks fixed, drove it from Utah to Ohio that way.
The 2 of you are like me and my best friend, we've been working on cars, re-building houses, and raising families together for 40 years now, every since we were 12 years old. Enjoy it and don't let it pass by, because it will slip past in an instant.
Please don't end this series before I see a fat smoky burnout. Love both of your guys vids.
The engine still sounded great after all that time, great jod
2 guys, a 4-barrel, and some "applied science." this never gets old
I'm excited you guys are giving some love to this American legend of a car.
How about a tree3 channel USA road trip?
I pissed myself during that campfire scene!!! Thanks guys!!
You guys are amazing, it would be awesome to hang and do this sort of crap with you. You don't really get finds like this in the UK, so camping out in vans and reviving a car over a few days is literally the dream!
Love the channel! New subscriber. Nothing like seeing you guys doing it the 'old school' way with limited resources. It sure makes the final project even more gratifying. Keep up the great work & keep the videos flowing.
Thanks so much 💪💪
Awesome collaboration you guys! Both of you are giving VGG a run for his money. Thanks for sharing this experience. Please don't make the mistakes that I have made; take care of your health so that you can still do these kinds of projects 20 years down the road. It's great to watch, but it's more fun to get grease all over yourself!
I had a 74 ",charger , fire engine red with all trimmings shaved off. remote popped doors .nice 5point star rims wrapped in white lettering t-a's. Four hundred and forty four cubic inch beast with a 5 speed power glide. Four barrel quard jet, elictronic ignition with headers, duel pips possie rear end. Fun car to drive..with four hounderd forty-two ponys under the hood
Back in '82 when I was 16 I had a 72 duster 318 2bbl that I put a holley 750 on the 2bbl manifold just like you did here. Everyone said it wouldn't run right but I jumped from a mid 14 sec 1/4 to a low 13 sec 1/4 all stock motor and even cruised great.
Just real quick: you'll always see "UNLEADED FUEL ONLY" in large, capital letters on the speedometer-- and, if still there, on a sticker on the back side the gas filler door, or on the gas filler cap-- on any car that doesn't run leaded fuel. I'm 47 and my mom used to have a '73 Satellite with a 318. It didn't have that warning on the speedometer, and you didn't see that warning until '75-'76 model cars or so.
Really great stuff, guys. Thanks for the laughs. Keep crankin' 'em out!
i just noticed ( a few years ago) they stopped putting that on cars.... mine still has it as it is a little older
The carb adapter being used the other way round was brilliant. VAAARRRROOOOMMMM pOp PUtt Pop VROmeveroMMMM SEND IT!
Watching you two together reminds me of me and my old best friend. We used to spend nearly every weekend hanging out messing around. Scrapping cars, hunting, fishing etc. Unfortunately we no longer talk but I still have good memories.
Can't believe that sucker ran that well especially with that 4 barrel carb. Awesome guys, great series!
Ladies and gentlemen I give you the Fraken-llite, back from the dead after 35 years.
2 long days of hard work + a few beers + holey shorts = Genuine humorous madness du jour.
"...learn how to make my lawnmower faster and... my *censored* was hanging out my entire time..."
The moments we can never un-hear. lol
Great work on the Satellite none the less guys.
Shalom
Watching this at 1am in the UK laughing my head off. You two make an awesome team!
The motor sounds awesome and oh, the first drive - give that honour to the previous owner!
Same here, 5am in Nottinghamshire.
Stephen glad I wasn’t the only one!....... maybe we need a UK pair like this!? 🇬🇧

Always appreciate you guys! I LOVE this channel. The old cars are fantastic and I'm so glad you have an appreciation for them. Thanks again.
So much awesomeness! Enjoying every episode, and I love how you guys support each other by posting alternating videos on the other's channel. Keep up the great work!
10:27 As an Australian, i can verify that this was a perfect accent. It's like Meryl Streep level perfect. Good Onya, Guys!
they almost lost me talking about the wheels and just saying tyres then they go and redeem with this classic drinking sesh lol
@@troyam6607 haha , but our Heroes would've been very tired at this point and a small grammatical error is easily forgivable. A Vegemite sandwich as nourishment and as a lubricant for the rusted brake drum is all they needed, i'm certain.
@@Dave.S.TT600 ah yeah i get ya, i was refering to the vid where they dragged in out. nevermind, this was a good vid
I had an 78 ElCamino with a 305 an a two barrel carb. Wanted a four barrel but didn’t want to go through the process of changing the intake manifold,so after a six pack and rummaging through a parts box I found a 4/2 adapter an had an idea. Did exactly what y’all did, flipped it dropped a quad junk four on got it set up pretty nice the linkage was kinda a problem but after another six pack I figured it out. Drove it for years an it ran good, you just had to remember not to try an punch it off a start get on it slowly or it would bog an stall. Really enjoy the videos brings back memories of some of the crazy fixes I’ve done an have learned quite allot too. Keep them coming.
just turned 19 today. my favorite youtubers both uploaded. i couldn’t have asked for more.
You guys are so lucky to get to work with this car I know it's being a pain in the butt but believe me to me that car is worth it I would love to have a 1970 Roadrunner or Plymouth Satellite that body style is my favorite out of every muscle car I have ever seen I appreciate you guys bringing me this awesome content keep 'em coming and I've never seen anybody have that much starter trouble so please don't give up guys
BADASS!! Awesome job fellas. Im in central Iowa restoring a 64 Impala and i catch some nice tips from you guys. Great videos.
Great job! So happy you saved the car. One of my favorite body styles.
This was very enjoyable to watch you guys do this. Well done. You are having a good time and it shows.
You guys are brilliant it’s people such as you guys teach me things
And show amazing cars.
This is awesome, I've done a lot of cars over the years, and even have some projects on my channel. But nothing that has fought me quite this hard and you guys powered through. Sometimes I get aggravated like we all do, and over the years I have even lost some passion for doing it, but watching you guys do this has reminded me exactly why I got into it in the first place. This is absolutely fantastic and can't wait to see the conclusion. You guys rock, we're all rooting for you
👌
you guys are so funny. I love this channel. i cry with laughter every time I watch a new video of yours.
Thanks so much
That is freaking awesome 👍so many videos of people blowing s*** up and wasting vintage vehicles in here you guys bring one back to life older than you! Great job guys......
Love the old stories from the owner. Seems like a cool guy
good work guys getting the old Satellite running ! I almost bought one of these yrs ago, used car lot in Regina Sask, was a 69 sport, 318 power steering buckets counsel
Haha, loved the Aussie accent attempt, not had, also can't get Planet Claire out of my head every time I watch this series.
Was looking forward to this video ! We had regular leaded gas into the 1980's here on the west coast. Man that thing still sounds good on video ! The 273/318/360's were good old dependable engines.
Soooo, it's 3:30 am and I'm watching these loonies fry ants with starter fluid. You go guy!
Love your stuff guys you have really sparked my interest in cars
You deserve and earned the subscribers you have congratulations. I wish i would've stayed working on cars like y'all. Old school is always the best.
I recently purchased a ‘69 Mercury Monterey for repair and restoration - it has a four barrel carb with a two intake. Runs great, but there’s no difference between the four barrel carb or a two if you only have a two intake. Someone down the line had swapped out carbs with the original one (obviously didn’t know much about them) but it still runs great.
Awesome to see that thing running after so many years. You guys are doing great and I plan to keep watching. I had a starter acting that way on my suburban recently and it just wasn’t getting enough voltage. Looks like you guys had figured that out by the end of the video. Keep up the good work.
You guys are my favorite guys on UA-cam. I love watching all your videos. Especially the road trip with the Oldsmobile
And all the while the Northern Cardinal continues it's serenade. You guys are doing it right!
The super chemistry is working between you both.. 😊
In tears multiple times laughing with you two. So much like my time back in the 60s with my best bud wrenching and drinking. so fun. Best of the series! D
Just passing thur , good job fellas love old cars keep it up, iam learning so much
You do a great job finding these old motors great work from one of you subscribers in the uk 👍👍
Great stuff guys; I love this series! Looking forward to the next episode!
When that thing started running it sounded beautiful. ❤
I did that sort of carb switch on a 302 mustang back in high school, worked really well to woke that little engine up quite a bit. That was back in 1985 lol
You guys are crazy, Reminds me of my younger days. Keep up the good work.
HELL YES BOYS!!!!!!!! CHRISTINE IS BACK TO LIFE!!!!!! SAVE'EM ALL GUYS!! That's so awesome
Great job guys I liked watching the videos thank you for sharing
Thanks for sharing the adventure guys
When I bought my 82 el Camino it had a 2 barrel intake with that same adapter and a 4 barrel edelbrock on it. It ran and drove fine surprisingly
Well done guys, good job sticking with that pile.
At 3:08 looks like a voltage regulator. They used to mount them on a fender or the firewall because back when everyone knew that unless you short or damage the winding's on an alternator nothing ever goes wrong with the charging system but voltage regulator. Then someone figured out if you put the regulator inside the alternator they can get 120.00 for a new alternator instead of 20 bucks for a regulator
I had a 1973 Roadrunner and replaced the starter and had the same problem. After looking I noticed that there were some brass shims that came with it, after putting on of those in I had no more issues with the starter!
Man ,I love stuff like this! This is what the car hobby thing is all about.
yall are having way too much fun out there... and I love it
I love watching these old car revivals. Besides hitting the lifters with a hammer this revival was done right by making sure it works.
But the axe to open the food package was hilarious.
I have one of those Bosch Drills . They work well You guys are doing Great . Keep it up!
I like the camp & fix collabs! Think this idea will be a new genre in car fixing. You can't leave til it runs. :D
17:00 thats a sweet sound, nothing as great as a thumping v8. 35 years sitting.... That is music to my ears
I can remember buying leaded gas in MD as late as about 1988. In the late 90's and early 2000's I had a 69 AMC Ambassador SST 2dr hardtop and I would add lead substitute on each tank to keep the exhaust seats alive.
As stupid as it might sound, I found the hubcaps to be the most exciting thing in the trunk haha. I like stuff like that, emblems, hubcaps etc
Great stuff! Great work so far and looking forward to more action on this car!
Yall make me remember being young and doing this kind of stuff. My 1st car was a 1962, 4 door, Chevy II, 6 banger, 3 speed on the column, with NO floorboards (rotted) that had been siting for 10+years. I drove it through my high school years after reviving it. (CHERISH THESE TIMES).
They have come and gone for me, but hey - I love your name
@@ThunderHead289 Thanks. At least you're not pushing 60. :-) Keep turning wrenches as long as you can.
Hell yeah buddy!
Runs good enough to smoke show! :D
Need a full restore.. Give that old gal some love...Good Luck...
I was working at a service station in 1970 when they came in and converted one pump on each island for unleaded fuel. It wasn't until 1975 when Catalytic Converters made the fuel a "necessity". Smaller nozzles to fit the new unleaded filler necks. What a pain in the ass in the beginning.
I know this was over a year ago, but I bought a 67 Plymouth Fury III in 1987 and still needed lead additive for the engine. It had the 383 Commando v8.
I miss that car.
AWSOME! Can't wait to see next one, to bad your don't have access to a starter rebuild shop. Those auto parts starters can be a pain. Keep up the good work.
10:01 hopefully there wasn’t too many mosquitoes out that night! 😂
This is one of the best videos! Awesome job as always :)
The lumber axe, a suitable alternative for opening your MRE 🤣
Holly crap... You guys are having more fun than is permitted in California. Good thing you not in that poop hole of a state. Looking forward to seeing another " two case" evening of fun!
Cheers brothers!

now this is some great content. Just dudes being guys.
You guys need to collaborate more often. These vids are awesome. I'm a sucker for the Van's in the background too lol.
A comedy show and cars at the same time. Love it. You guys have given me a much needed laugh. Thank you.
This is awesome! I'm loving this series!
One time I replaced a starter on my old C1500 and went through 3 starters in about a month. The last one snapped in half on the bell. All of them were bought at Autozone. Took the broken one to O'reillys and got one of theirs, and never had a starter issue again.
Best episode yet! You pair are hilarious when you’re full of beer 😂😂😂😂😂
This is one of the best mechanic channels
Woohoo! Just in time for the weekend! Love ya guys
This video and this series is right up there with the power tour engine in a hotel room, having this much fun is probably illegal in some states, stay awesome!
Been there, done that. Put the 4bbl on a 2bbl intake the same way when I was young and broke. It'll slobber really bad if you open the fours. Also, the vacuum signal is so terrible, and with the airflow going around essentially a corner, some of the fuel will drop out in the plenum. It'll get ya' home... As a matter of fact, I'm driving a similar setup for work right now - but on an International 478 in a '74 Loadstar 1800 tandem with a 5x4 twin stick hauling potatoes.
