What a strange thing to have a dig at you for. If nothing else you have found/made you own little slice of the market. You may have got there by way of your own story but no matter the journey that got you to where you are today. I don't think there is any doubting what you have done and the success that you have had.
As bad as this experience was, it's always nice to have someone humbly tell when they took one right in the kisser... Love the videos and the journey each car takes you on. The world of the automobile and the experiences it dishes out is fathomless.
I 100% agree. I bought a 550 that needed some work...$8k later, it was finally starting to get in good mechanic shape but still had some gremlins. While I loved it, it got old...so I purchased the cleanest TDF blue F430 I could find. It’s been flawless and I’ve enjoyed the experience more. Lesson learned.
It’s funny how much I see my own inner child come out in the way John looks and gets excited about these vehicles and their stories. I would do anything to work beside this man and learn from his experience and passion to continue to give the enthusiasm to these cars that they deserve
A good lesson even on a much lower tier. Always try to find the nicest example of what you’re after, they usually are less money in the long run and have better resale when you’re done. Took me awhile to learn that one.
I love your videos John, great stories, great production and how you tell the story is clear and entertaining. Such an underrated and under-subscribed channel. And yes, I’ve seen it first hand. My uncle imported in a ‘69 camaro from the USA, and for the amount of work he’s spent on the car, he would have been better off just saving up and extra year or two for a car that’s going to run and drive with no problems.
A hugely honest story, and great to hear. But the real takeaway, no attempt to intimately learn the cars, just.. we’ll buy low milers. That’s really disappointing, it’s a video from someone that really doesn’t understand these cars.
Sounds like you went through the same headache I did when I bought my 1996 Camaro. It was over priced and seemed like it was a great deal but boy I spent more on that then i would have going with a C5 Corvette! So i completely can related to this story.
Very much enjoy this content. I think it's under subscribed at this point. Would love to see something on how one identifies whether a car has been rolled back or not. I'm sure it's one of a litany of things you look out for when acquiring these cars. -Love from North Port, Florida.
Dear John, first of all, love all the vids. Also, please talk about the business itself and what you think it’s the future for car business with the pandemic and current economic situation. How you pick up on deals, future profitable cars etc.
Does this guy not even know that Barrett-Jackson is in late January in Scottsdale every year, the car wouldn't/couldn't had been shipped from CA if bought at BJ
I actually love the stories and all the history of the cars. Do any of your cars fall victim to the dealership odometer resets that were going on in the past few years?
i dont understand. high mileage exotic car with bad car fax. what made you think it would be in pristine condtion ? all the problems you outlined seem expected to me.
A car with that low of miles and older. Doesn’t that cause another set of issues? Don’t seals and stuff dry out? Doesn’t seem good for an engine not to least drive a few miles ever few weeks.
There's a ton of reasons why cars have low miles. Maybe that was enough for a person. Or maybe they didn't think it's what they wanted. We could go on. But cars are an investment.
John, I have wondered about buying higher mileage exotic cars. I work on both of my DeLoreans myself, one is low mileage and the other is about twice the mileage of the other. For a person like me, who is willing to do their own work, including enfi engine removal and frame/body separation, do you think it can be worth it to buy a high mileage exotic, such as a Lamborghini?
Hi John, I do really like your content and have watched your Countach videos many times. In this video, you didn’t really answer the question- is a low mielage car, in a pristine condition a good car? It’s obvious that a car with a bad car fax will probably be problematic but as a guy who has won two UK concourses (Salon Prive2016 and City Concours 2018 with my manual 2003 Murcielago) it’s a myth that a low mileage car that looks pristine is less problematic than an almost perfect car with more miles. I work on my cars with my dad, technician and fellow enthusiasts and collection cars are a mixed bunch. I’ve seen you doing a spark plug change on a Countach so I assume you work on most of the cars. Low mileage cars often don’t have the consumables changed such as rubber hoses, bushes and tyres. They also have leaking seals and the engines aren’t bedded in until 4000 miles. I also own a 2013 Aventador and regular oil, gearbox, clutch and brake fluid changes only really get done if the owner is driving their car regularly. I do betwen 2000 to 3000 miles between my V12 Lambos so for a 16 year old car, with 38,000 miles mostnof the hoses, and consumables will have been changed. I think you chose the “worst” example, but the collector market especially in Europe is based around the story of rhe car. Stay safe during the lockdown.
An early Murcielago is my dream car. Very cool that you actually work on your exotics. What color is your Murcielago ? My dream Murcielago has to be a Giallo Orion with a cream interior.
@@carmelothegoat1892 Thank you. Grigio Avlon. You can see the cars on my channel GrigioGT. They are all grey! Yes, your dream spec is lovely. Take care.
Love watching these videos, love the back story makes sense about why you go for concours cars. I want to ask if the car is ultra low mileage doesn't that present its own set of problems?
I know this is an old video but I disagree. It can be helpful to buy a car cheaper with problems. Say a car is 150k but you buy one, scraping by for 100k that has issues. You can look at that price difference as more of a pay as you go model, fixing issues when you have the money. You might not have that extra 50k up front for a good example so being able to fix over time could make more sense from a funding standpoint.
John dude your friend probably isnt a good friend, would you try to stand in the way of your dream car,you seem like a cool dude and i dont think youd even have a thought like that cross your mind, anyway big fan from Scotland
No good story starts with good decisions. So this is a great story. Lol. First, that's no friend who makes you pay a profit, second, don't you hate when your dad turns out to be right? Haha
Disagree...You paid $30k too much for the initially. If you had paid $30k less, this video would have a different tone. If you had paid 30k less you would have used a better transport carrier and if right no new clutch needed. I acknowledge though that hope for only small issues when you buy a car like that. I’m 3 out of 4 on the good side. On my major miss I could have bought a newer version. Still fixing the old one though.
WTF. Your "Friend" went to the auction on your behalf to get a car you wanted and ended up saying HE wanted it? So you had to pay HIM off? Dick move on the "Friends" part LOL
Hi John, Please keep doing these videos! Love seeing stories from all angles of your business and the cars you deal in!
Thank you so much!! Every Thursday a new video will be coming!! Share with your friends and don't forget to LIKE!
a humble story which shows not everything in life is a home run, but more of a journey.
Ah, yes! The journey is the best part.
What a strange thing to have a dig at you for. If nothing else you have found/made you own little slice of the market.

Exactly.
You had a car that went into a limp mode? I have a same problem, just not with my car.
if only my nightmares included a diablo :(
Love listening to your stories John
It’s funny how much I see my own inner child come out in the way John looks and gets excited about these vehicles and their stories. I would do anything to work beside this man and learn from his experience and passion to continue to give the enthusiasm to these cars that they deserve
I would love to see the cars in your personal garage.
Love your channel and your enthusiasm...Keep up the good work!
I passed on a 959 that was listed at $600K. Looked to good to be true. I’m still looking for one.
600k, good lord that's CGT territory.
This sounds like the same story I had when I first bought an NSX. Had no money and just bought an NSX with a blown clutch, lol.
Love these stories. Makes 100% sense. Sometimes the cheapest deals are the most expensive. But you never think about it until it happens to you lol
When John said he put all his life savings on his dream car, that really resonated with me I would do the exact same thing !
Amazing channel. Keep up the great work!
Even with the issues I’ll bet you still looked very cool sitting at the traffic lights 🚦

I'd want the purple Diablo. Black one looked awesome though.

So what were the electrical issues?
Can you do a video on your personal cars and maybe how you sourced them? Enjoying these videos!
John what car is your daily driver?
Video coming soon... : )
doug demuro also reviewed the Ferrari Enzo chassis 399 in australia
Brilliant Video All The Best Health.
John you should really do more storytelling like this, saw you first time on Vinwiki, all the best for Curated and your channel!
Damn John!…..
That red dot on the shirt? 🔴. Jeeeeeeeezz! 😂
Dear John, first of all, love all the vids. Also, please talk about the business itself and what you think it’s the future for car business with the pandemic and current economic situation. How you pick up on deals, future profitable cars etc.
Really enjoyed this story due to the fact I am looking for a diablo sv in the uk and prices are all over the place.
Thank god, I thought I only had this luck!
Would like to hear about this as well.
Also I’ve heard more than once that a lot of Ferrari owners disconnect the odo during ownership.
i dont understand. high mileage exotic car with bad car fax. what made you think it would be in pristine condtion ? all the problems you outlined seem expected to me.
I was trying to be "cheap," and overly optimistic... you are right, all the signs were there, I just kept driving....learned a great lesson.
I got to be a little part of that equestrian Festival in 2008/09......impressive community of beautiful things! ;)

I remember the days when I'd see diablos, 512TRs, for dirt cheap before the 2010s. Wish I had some money back then
@@TheAmazingMrMcFlyy same here , me in high school back in 08 trying to find a job to buy a 930 turbo when they were 25k lol never bought one
my cousin had one of these and i all i used to hear about was how high his maintenance bills were hehe what a sweet car, though

Why is that our dream cars are hardly ever in the same city we live in🤣
But man, the Diablo SV is just such a good looking car.
Love the stories brother..
Love the video but the background music is maximum cr1nge

Great videos bro, ps that was a shitty friend
least unique car purchase story on youtube?
Vinwiki is better than this channel
The real solution is to be a real car guy and just repair it yourself.
