I live in Miami and stopped by Curated before it had even opened but still had a few cars in the showroom. John saw me peeking through the window and opened the door and showed me around the place for a solid 45 minutes. I wasn't a prospective buyer or anything. Just one of the nicest guys I've ever met who truly loves cars. Very happy for his success.
After hearing his stories, hearing you say that doesn't surprise me. Seems like a legit good dude.
Yes; we need more like this in the community.
It's the difference that makes the good sales man. You could come into money tomorrow, you might know someone with money, you might tell your story on YT and someone with money sees it. Either way Curated is going to be the first name you all think of.
John seems like one of the nicest guys in the VinWiki videos.
@viperden same I’ve went in back in 2016 and I may have seen this car
Big exotic car deals tend to be a roller coaster ride. So glad this one ended well for you John. Thank you, as always, for sharing the story.
Ed this may sound weird but genuine question. Do you sleep with socks on or not?
Okay Ed I have a picture of me with this deep brown murcialago from Dubai in 2014 and I’ve never seen any Lamborghini in that shade . Do you know what that cars story is ?
I was actually at the factory last year when this was was undergoing work with Polo Storico. Sworn to secrecy as to who the new owner was. The car itself is a real work of art!
@@insidelane Jean Todt its literally right at the end of the video
Hi Ed! So happy for the growth of vinwiki! This story is one of the greats! I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for the inspiration to get my own dream car! I exchanged a couple emails with you, and wasn't able to make it to the old headquarters, but it was truly a epic dream, going from Michigan to Florida for my car and talking with you on the way! Thank you, your content is truly life changing!
That auction house is shady as hell!
Indeed. Which is why bring a trailer has been doing so well for fair priced stuff. No one likes dealing with the auction houses.
Yeah someone with the auction house wanted that car.
The auction house had made a deal and thought they could play you cheap.
Housten Epp That’s just how they run business. Every deal is sketchy
fuck auctions.. no allegiance to anyone but themselves
"I felt like I was being set up"
Narrator: He was set up.
In Ed's voice "He was set up"
@ArmchairWarrior doubt it was Todt who was setting them up at that auction. Probably someone there wanted to make some money by buying it privately for 1.7 and selling at auction for 2.2
@@JoseMartinez-kk4uw It would be better in Rabbit's voice
I don't want to come off like an internet arm chair quarterback, but the way this guy flip flopped on the original deal with the original perspective buyer just shouts immaturity to me. Using the auction house to 'create competition' then going back to that buyer and closing the deal north of 2 mil was the play. Nevermind that he made a pomise in good faith to that buyer and then unwound it for his own ego. How to kill a relationship with a customer 101. It was almost like he was enjoying the thrill of seeing how high it would sell for at auction... instead of just managing the numbers and understanding what that means for his reputation. Never mind how long that car sat in his inventory before the windfall finally came.
Someone was trying to make nearly half a million bucks off of him. You try lifting half a mil off me and maybe your little auction house has an unexpected fire break out.
Ending is completely worth the watch. That's a big one.
That auction sounds CROOKED
That’s why he never mentioned the name
@@Dislike_Counttotally likely….

“He’s in the south of France, he’s in the Middle East, Brazil, Mexico” yeah that’s an F1 guy
Yeah, exactly what I thought lol.
I think I found it? petrolicious.com/articles/lamborghini-has-restored-this-miura-sv-for-jean-todt-and-its-beautiful
edit2: lol the video confirms it. I was half way through watching.
@@__Ben Well, he named Jean Todt at the end of the video. So yeah.
he says its Jean Todt in the video lol
And you can see it's Jean Todt in the pictures at 16:24 and the picture after.
I was thinking the same thing. Had to be a F1 guy.
I would’ve sued the auction house for damages because they screwed you sideways
Yup, get it in the public record making it easier to make their nefarious behavior public knowledge.
Especially since it sounds like there would have been video evidence of the process
*I had some expensive equipment go through a public auction where the auctioneer sold it (cheap) to an associate of his before the bidding was actually over with. I can't explain the panic (my stuff had no reserve on it) that goes through you when you begin to realize what is happening. I really felt that part of the story.* 😬
Yeah, I spoke with an old farmer last year that told me about how crooked the auctions in the farm world are. Shills, backroom deals, swapped equipment, theft, etc. He'd become an auctioneer himself just as a way to provide honest auction services to his community that was constantly getting ripped off.
No reserve?
@@bebin73 Yeah, like no minimum bid to finalize
The story of this Muira SV, being told by John, is simply epic. You can hear the passion in his voice and it plays out like a well written movie. Greatness.
Miura, not Muira.
@@sommelierramon thank you....for correcting my spelling.....which sucks ever since I misplaced an I.
One of the best stories ever to be on this channel
Agreed!
Actually felt like i was going to cry but was smiling too hard to.
Absolutely ... was thinking the same thing while watching it (and wishing it were longer :)
absolutely agree. bonzer story. much respect and admiration towards John, and his father, and all those at CURATED and the restorers.
Did we watch the same story? Or am I just missing something herein? Not trying to be disrespectful, but I don’t get how this is a good story, let alone one of the best on this channel as there are a lot of very interesting stories told on vinwiki.
Glad it ended well. Went super sketched for a min LOL
John’s closing line should have been: “...and that’s why I’ll never sell a car at auction”.
?The car wasn't as great as he claimed.
SouthJerseySound it was.. and that’s why it sold for somewhere around 2.5 million
It is consistently fantastic stories like John's here that make VinWiki the finest channel on YT today!
Fancy finding you here!
@@DatGameCollector You too bud, didn't know you were into cars my friend. Missed you on my last gaming vid.
@@vinniecorleone62 yea I've always loved cars. I recently bought a 2019 gti rabbit in cornflower blue 6spd manual.
@@DatGameCollector Congrats on your new ride bud, sounds like a sweet one! You can see my Hemi Challenger video I just uploaded after getting it back from being painted.
@@vinniecorleone62 yea I knew you had it. I like those. Hope things are getting better for you and the family.
"The auctioneer made a mistake." was the auction house claim. So the auction house tainted the value of the car via public forum. (At least as public as such circles go...)
Send in lawyers who don't make, er, mistakes.
I would have gone a PUBLIC campaign to have them shut down FOR EVER !
Yea that's a 700k lawsuit
Auction house was probably trying to be a middle man and make 1/2 million themselves….leaving him the sucker
What vintage exotic car do you dream about? The Miura SV is certainly a strong contender!
The miura or the troll 😃
countach hands down.
Bugatti Royale Armand Edsers
Porsche 550 Spyder and/or Ferrari 288 GTO
Gt California. The owner of the dealership I use to work at had an orange one in Fort Worth. Super sexy car
This is honestly one of the best stories on this channel hands down!
Just how do you consider this "one of the best", when John Screwed us ALL ?
Always like John's exotic car story telling and demeanor. Seems like a sincere nice Lambo loving car guy
You can feel his genuine passion for lambos :)
Plot twist: the secret vip buyer was kimmy! I hear she has a tight schedule.
She must have cashed in on the popularity of those butt implants.
I hear she's quite the shrewed negotiator tho 😂😂
aint nothing tight about kimmy !
Hahahaha..
bruhhh!!!😂🤣🤣😂
RM Sotheby’s Monterey was the auction house. They were definitely trying to back door you. It all worked out for the best though.
They didn't TRY to back door him, they DID ! And it hurt ALL of us ! Thanks A lot !
Someone responsible for the auction wanted that Miura for 1.7 Million.
Yup, in order to resell it for a quick BIG buck.
Or just keep it out of the common person's hands *in general.*
yep..
Sounds like someone wanted the car and worked with the auction house to screw you and get it at a better price. Definitely should have gone after them for it.
I guessed it was an F1 driver that wanted the car, I was close!
For those wondering, the auction house was RM Sotheby's. You can see the logo in the back at 5:45
So now, we ALL know to stay as far away from them as we can ! NOTHING but the bottom of the barrel CROOKS !
I will never buy million $ cars from them.
That’s sketchy on behalf of the auction house, they’re known to be pretty awful.
But without the sketchy auction, we wouldn't have this cool story
One of the best Vinwiki videos so far. That auction house was clearly trying to cut you out of half a million, and split it 50-50 between the two parties setting you up.
That was one of the best stories yet. I d appreciate more longer stories.
How do you consider this "one of the best" ?
Shout out from South Africa . This story has reaffirmed the idea of hard work . One day I'll own a unique car like this
Are you not familiar with ferrari's pettines?
🇿🇦🙌
This guy is one of my favorite car story tellers. ESP when it’s about the beautiful miura. Love the channel and stories !
In reality John got the last laugh because he ultimately got a good deal and with hundreds of thousands of views would have significantly harmed the auction houses reputation. The icing on the cake is that the auction house cant do shit because if they try to sue him for slander it will cause more damage to their reputation than what it's worth to them. Great story John.
Hands down, the best story and outcome! Congratulations 🍾
That was the best story so far here. I can only imagine the stress during the failed auction, and the subsequent 8 months. I would have asked for a letter from the auction house CEO confirming their apology for messing up the auction, and included it with the sale 🙂. *Jean Todt* : To avoid confusion, in the picture in Italy, Mr. Todt is the little wizen guy on the left. Fun Fact : He hooked up with Michelle Yeoh ( former Miss Malaysia, and upcoming in the Oscars in March ) 20 years ago when he was 57, and she was 40. Well done that man !
I'm sure it was his looks and personality that attracted her to him. It's amazing the gargoyles women will endure to get to the gold
This guy is one of the best storytellers on the channel. Right up there with Rabbit, and Casey in my book. The passion of these people is so apparent in how they speak about cars and how they tell their stories. Definitely one of my favorite guests on the channel.
Absolute master of a story-teller ! Thanks for keeping me on the edge of my seat the whole time!!
I can't afford any of the cars at Curated, but this interview and to see how honest and humble John is refreshing. The level of dedication and passion shines thru. Outstanding interview. I better keep saving. :)
That's one of the best stories on the channel to date. Great job John.
my dad, brother and I met Jean on the lawn at pebble beach this year.....he was so gracious and took a picture with us...pretty cool meeting one of the men behind 5 world championships
this guy s is my most beloved story teller..i said it before and i will say it again. :D
@T G well FYI you little fairy..his name is john temerian. he owns "wearecurated " which is a business that sells rare and vintage exotic cars. He knows about rare exotics more that 10 ed bolians. And if you think by watching this clip that he is trying to be somebody else than himself..well in that case i really hope that you dont vote.
John temerians stories are my favourite. Especially this and his father's miura. The miura, for as long as I can remember is my dream car so seeing someone love them as much as I do is amazing.
One of my favorite stories and storytellers! The enthusiasm and passion he conveys, is awesome to see. As they say, " When you love what you do for work ...its not really work. Keep up the great content gentlemen.
i can listen to this guy all day. A genuine story teller.
Honestly, this story would be worthy of a short documentary. So much drama, so many ups and downs and what a wonderful surprise in the end.
I feel like this guy could tell me the absolutely worse news of my life and Id still be happy.....
Merica! Hell yeah brother
Why..
Haha right
You were set up! I’d sue the hell out of them and then never go back.
Hi, I work for Lamborghini. I remember when this Miura was in. It is quiet cool to hear this additional backstory. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
I was having a rough morning, then thought, "oh ya, VinWiki!" I felt better.
It already has! :) Thanks
It was those refs last night wasnt it?
I Look forward to a story every morning at work
Matthew... that was just bad man, Lions dominated the hell out of that game.
I love this guy. It can't be more interesting than vintage lambo stories, and he seems like a real nice guy.
This story is up there with the John Ficcara ones...awesome!
One of the best stories on here! The suspense of who it was, was the best part!
I wouldn't even be able to meet Jean Todt without bursting into tears. What an amazing story.
Now this is a great VinWiki story. This felt like a mini-documentary from beginning to end, like I was just as invested in this Miura as John was
This may be the COOLEST Vinwiki story of all time! this is amazing!
This deserves way more views.
A fantastic story for a sublime piece of automotive history.
Well done, John and keep it up!
This guy is a good storyteller, I want to see more of him
What a story and what a well spoken gentleman: I would listen to John for hours...You feel he is authentic and sincere in all he says! John: you deserve every bit of your success!
I like this guy. Seems genuine.
I've heard a lot of stories, but that is definitely one of the best, ever!
I love how if there's the word miura in the title I already know it's gonna be john telling the story
Yeh ! Cause he likes to tell us just HOW he screwed ALL of us !
this guy speaks with so much emotion it was a joy to watch. Thank you for the story.
1. More of this guy.
2. Very neat story.
3. Please do another video that delves into the auction house suggesting a 1.7 price beforehand. While the live auction was a “mistake”? That conversation was not.
Who got their wires crossed and what’s the back story behind it?
Regards,
Marky
I would have pulled the car and filed a Formal AND Public complaint against Sotheby's. Run a campaign to shut them down !
Wow! What an exciting, rollercoaster ride of a story! Thanks for sharing!
John Temerian always has the best stories along with being a great storyteller!
JUST what do you find "Best" and "Great" about this ? Best way to GET screwed by Sotheby's and a Great way to show the public how week you are ?
You can tell the guy lived it for real when just listening I started leaning towards the screen and holding my breath when the auction part came up. Nerve wracking!
I was SCREWED OVER by a British Auction house in Monterrey selling my C2 Corvette in 2003 during the 50th.....of that marque.....I feel your pain and glad things worked out better for you in the end. This has soured me on auction houses ever since....I'd rather know the buyer and be available for them if they have future questions.
WRONG ! Things Did NOT work out. We ALL got SCREWD on this one !
Fantastic story. Thank you all for sharing!
It’s Burt Reynolds.
Edit: Wasn’t Burt Reynolds.
I was thinking Jerry Seinfeld lol
Literally laughed out loud, well done.
John exactly my thought too.. but I believe Jerry has a Verde Miura
As a kid in the 80`s I had the unexpected honor of being a passenger in an SV that was owned by a Mr Baily who lived in Bedfordview, Johannesburg. We were riding bikes as he pulled out of his driveway, saw these kids appreciating his car and offered to take me for a drive. I remember the carbs right behind my head and the very clunky gated gear change. This may or may not have been the exact same car. South Africa was very fortunate in having some seriously nice cars at the time. My family owned a Porsche Abarth Carerra in 1972.One of 20 ever built..Love this story.
I was so into this that I didn't even realize it was almost 20 minutes long until I came to the comments, great story and great job telling it
NO ! this is a TERRIBLE story ! The only good think that came out of it, is the lesson that you CANNOT EVER trust Sotheby's ! A bunch of F*&^ing crooks !
Probably the most interesting story I’ve heard on this channel, keep it up guys !
This title took a few tries
Excellent...
Lovely story! I relate to the personal meeting excitement with someone important in a field of interest. It is fun!
Thanks for sharing this,
James
This story is why I subscribed to this amazing channel !! WOW!!!
Excellent story. Well done.
The Miura is a beautiful car 😍😍
Has there been a _bad_ Bertone design? Miura, Stratos? Helluva studio.
John is a great story teller, I'm on the edge of my seat every time.
Jean Todt? I was thinking it should be the frigging pope for such drama!
John is such a great storyteller. I love hearing tales from the car world. I love this channel!
Wow, one of the best stories I have heard...congrats
most riveting story I've listened to for years.
This guy is even more interesting than rabbit. More please
If your rich
John is the perfect guy to buy a used Lamborghini or Ferrari from he takes alot of pride into restoring lamborghini's
Nice setup. Something John will never forget. Great story guys. Thanks for sharing.👍🏻
Wow quite a story and very well told!
Stories like this are why I subscribe to VINwiki.
You blew me away with "Jean Todt!"
Best story teller ever. Best content on UA-cam.
Incredible
one of the best VinWiki stories ever.
What makes this the 'best" for you ? Is it WHY we should stay away from AND BLACK LIST Sotheby's OR, HOW john screwed ALL of US OR, how NOT to handle a corrupt auction house ? You tell me !
I've listen to that twice. It's a fantastic automotive story. One fir the ages.
Truly remarkable.
It's one to tell or the tyre kickers.
" mmm not sure about this car?"
" that's OK we will sell it to John Todt later on"
The car would be plus of 5million now.
My country usually never gets mentioned, that was pretty cool to hear.
Asia?
What a brilliant story... possibly one of the most inspired video's I've watched in recent memory
Hands down one of the best videos on this channel.
If this is YOU idea of "One of the BEST" stories then I DON'T want to hear YOUR idea of the worst !n I found this story to be APPULING ! NOTHING more than SLEEZY used car salesmen being taken by a MORE SLEEZY auction house !
This story literally gave me goosebumps. Incredible.
Awesome story. I’m sure this guy has insane highs and lows every month, being in this business.
NO ! I think John is just INSANE ! A VERY Corrupt auction house does NOT make this story awesome but instead, renders it a TRAVISTY ! ! ! !
Amazing story. This guy is the top tier of the car industry, awesome to hear about and see.
Great work title maker guy. Real man of genius
MAYBE THE BEST STORY YET ! BRAVO !
“what celebrity is lambo buying our miura sv for?” lost braincells
This is one of the coolest stories I've heard on VINWiki. Thank you and please keep 'em coming.
Yes Ed longer videos!
great story.... Since the early 80s and my love for cars I've been in love with the Miura SV. In fact my shop teacher in middle school told us stories of his friend having one and him driving in it and the sound that it made. Years later I owned a couple ferraris and some other exotics but never a SV and to this day when I see those line I feel my heart flutter for there is only one Miura!
that is the most beautiful car ever made
One of the best stories i hear and see in VinWiki, im still keeping up with all of your videos!
