LOOKING FOR A GREAT CHRISTMAS GIFT? CHECK THIS OUT goo.gl/26WK9u
Wranglerstar yes what about a flat angled rue spoon I could make one just wana see what you come up with always love seeing you make things
Wranglerstar hi mate mitch from Australia
I tell you what when you opened that box green velvet lined .... that my friend is THE FIZZ
Beautiful knife
Nice
Didn't Jack already do this project?
Let's have the bread board! The knife turned out so elegant.
with some of the green on it as well please !
Dish out the board so it fits the knifes curve
Actually that blade shape is used in the Japanese Habaki probably thousands of years before the Swedes invented butter.
I still like Cody's design best.
but can it shave hairs.... that is the question.
MIgardener | Simple Organic Gardening & Sustainable Living great seeing you here! How awesome! Maybe a collab?
MIgardener | Simple Organic Gardening & Sustainable Living Yes, yes it can but only wood hairs😂
but can it run crysis
Idk , from the knife reviews I watch these days I think it should be able to field dress and butcher several bull moose, and then shave hair.
It is not for cutting the mustard, it won't fit in the jar.
9:34, "I spared you the half hour of carving and sanding..." *secretly used a belt sander*
Andrew Contreras somethings wrong I can feel it
@@CalebMcFadden when I sand stuff by hand my knees get weak and my arms get heavy
The houses are red, since there was a copper mine in Falun, i bi-product of the copper production was this red pigment, and it also had good anti fungal properties. So in essence it was cheap and good. Hence all the houses are red. And now it's tradition.
When you were staining the handle, I had flashbacks of Bob Ross.......
I was thinking the same thing too but he didn’t see look at those happy little trees.
"what a nice color"
Lol!!! Painting trees on a knife handle....
My thoughts exactly! And at the end when he said about the sawdust, it sounded like "We have some sawdust. Happy little sawdust lives here, but that's okay" Beautiful video in many ways!
Me toooo I literally left that same comment like 30 seconds ago hahaha glad I'm not the only one
"Man I probably shouldn't have said that..." Haha, every time I watch one of your videos it makes my whole day better.
That was cool, good job
naaa Sweden does not have a traditional green (what I think) Swedish butter knife's are almost 100% clear stain so you can see the grains on the wood :) its simple and nice ;) from Sweden värmeland
8 inches???? If it´s a Swedish Butter Knife you must use METRIC!!!! ;-) //Jonas from Sweden
Screw the metric system because it's really convenient and the scale works on a linear scale. What a hassle to use!
~ 20 cm ... and no, it's not 200mm, metric people use CM as the base, not mm. MM are only if you want to be really precise.
Dutch Courage no meter is the base centimetre, millimetre and kilometre are derivatives of meter hence cent, mill and kilo which are derived from Greek measurements
As a carpenter I always use mm to describe lenght or width. Next step up is meters and thats usually when you make long fences or when you visit the lumberyard where its easier to descibe a 2x4 as 2,5 or 3,3 meters instead of 2500 or 3300 mm. Perhaps its and occupational injury?
@C-A-A while 'technically' you are correct about the scientific/engineering side of things; but the normal metric person generally uses CM till sizes go over a Meter. The CM is like the inch, seeing most human implements used are in the CM range, the CM is the 'base' type of measurement for most things.
Say a cup is 10cm high, not 100mm. A pencil is like 13cm, not 130mm. Only time i hear people use mm for these things is when imperial people try and use the metric system. But to a metric person it's like saying something that is 2inches, is 16/16s like why would you use the small increment when using inches suffices. Unless you want to go 15/16s or 1inch 7/16s, then you would go for 4cm 7mm ... hope this makes sense :)
I'd like to see you make the bread board as well
Felix Walton yes I understand, but I'd like to see how he'd make one. Maybe out of a slab, or maybe out of multiple scraps
Aaron Joles I'm pretty sure he already had one on his channel
The butterknife is the first exercise that students get's to do in woodworking class when it starts in third grade in sweden. Source: I'm swedish
Really Mikael Pettersson ?
You are Swedish?
But with a name like that I would never guess XD
Cool build. Really appreciate how much you care about the quality. It shows in your works.
looks nice, Swedish homestead did some of those also. i look froward to seeing the bread board to go with the butter knife.
Yes please. Make the breadboard!
As a swedish person i have to say that i have never seen that green before, which surprises me... but hey, it looked nice!
I think they paint things up in Dalarna - although painting a knife used for food would be weird cause you'd potentially get chemicals in your butter and on your bread. All swedish butterknives I've seen are unpainted.
Traditionally, atleast in my experience growing up we usually make our butterknifes out of juniper, but that’s not because the wood is better, it’s mostly for the good smell
Love the sarcasm "We can do better" :P And the positive way you talk about scandinavia. And last but not least, i totally agree, life is somtimes just about the details. :)
This dude's like a homesteading Hank Hill... 1:57
Homesteading and homesteading accessories
YEP, DO THE BREAD BOARD. GOOD TO SEE YOU BACK IN THE WOOD SHOP.
I am Swedish myself and I love when I can relate to your videos and family through that. The knife turned out amazing and like you said, "The details matter."
Cody, there is a lot of talk and stir about this video. I want to take the time to let you know I appreciate this video and your work. I don't care if there is a similar video. It shows the true character of some of the people that watch you. Keep up the good work. And thank you. Best wishes to you and your family
Justin
We uploaded a Swedish butter knife video 8 months ago. Here is the link goo.gl/sXN3Pz The original idea was ours.
I agree with you Justin. The trolls are compelled to comment, they can't help themselves. By commenting they identify who they are and I'm able to block their accounts. It's a win win,
Nice video. Always though you and Swedish Homestead should do a project together.
These videos are vastly different. I watched both. Swedish homestead took a mass produced approach, Wranglerstar did a hand tool individual approach. Even if they got together and said hey lets make this knife... the two videos compliment each other. I think that makes both more interesting.
yellowsuzuki06 yes I agree with you. I loved Swedish homesteads response vid too. Both of them used traditional Swedish butter knife shapes. Similar but not the same. They both came out looking wonderful.
Nice work Cody, you are a true craftsman my friend. Will you be clear coating the paint so it doesn't wear off? Additionally, nice set of drafting tools K&E brand? I had a set almost identical to yours my dad gave me and they were stolen when I was in University as BSME. Woke up this morning to 6 inches of snow here on my 20 acre homestead in northeastern Vermont. Thanks for sharing Cody and I'm looking forward to your third segment of 50 tools vid series.
William thank you, I'm shooting part three now,
You are most welcome Cody. Keep up the good work.
When will 21-30 of the tools come out I’ve been following along and purchasing the tools I don’t have but great video..let’s see the bread bored!
The video is up for 35 seconds and there's already 10 thumbs up what do you guys do you sit there by the phone and wait till he uploads? Lol
Given the fact that there are 800 k subs divided by 24 hours, then 60 minutes each hour...
500 something odd views within the first minute, so yeah lol
SuspiciousAlertness for once humans are faster than machine. FIX YOUR SHIT UA-cam. YOUR SLACKING
Do you not?
Press the bell icon😉
Ya but you have to remember their are 882,891 people waiting for him to release a new video. So out of those 882,891 there are probably a couple 1000 that have notifications turned on, and sadly most of our world is UA-cam and social media so yes that’s why 35 seconds into the video their is already 10 likes.
Very nice example of a beginner wood working project with minimal tools needed! Great gift from a aspiring young wood worker for sure.
joel stein should you use just like treated wood or like wood from outside? Lol
When I think of traditional Swedish butter knives, this is the shape I think of: qph.ec.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-9f53a8c56b165fc3159603b3fa39458a-c
Cool authentic crafts. Great camera work too
Might be fun to extend the handle on top for a thumb rest. This would strengthen the neck, too.
That beautiful knife would make a lovely Christmas gift for anyone to appreciate using a homemade Bread board to go with it! I would love to see you make a bread board Cody!!! Please! 👍👍👍😍❣️
I have made many butter knives throughout the years as they crack and wear out, always made them out of juniper and just seasoned them with cooking oil. I love them and one can scoop up butter with them without the butter falling/melting off before it hits your bread.
Yes for the bread board
Want a wood horse check out Lindsborg, Kansas. A little bit of Swedish heaven in the Midwest.
please do the board and maybe a butter spread test
Thank you for this. I often find myself in places of stress and anxiety when I come to UA-cam, and find gems like this. The sincere appreciation you have for this project, for the "details" in life, and the calm, jubilant, Bob Ross like monologue you've provided has created for me a such an enjoyable and peaceful viewing experience. I would love to see a bread board video to accompany this one. Thank you @Wranglerstar.
Why is the green color Swedish, I'm from Sweden and never heard about it. But the knife came out realy nice
Edvin Vensryd yeah I was thinking the same, you guys all use red on your houses.
I've been a subscriber for maybe a year now but I've been watching your videos for far longer than that, and this has to be the most hippy vibes video that you've made! Being kinda a anti-hippy person, this is still awesome! Keep it up! (totally felt like a Bob Ross, joy of painting episode XD)
I love his woodwork videos
Solly If you looking for a highly skilled old school wood worker check out Paul Sellers from Britain.
Yes, please show the breadboard. Did you finish the knife with anything or just leave it raw wood?
2:40 Man, that is some west coast coffee if I've ever seen it! Thought it was tea at first. Love the vids.
Love the vids keep up the great work love from Utah to the whole family I'm 15 and working towards buying land all the best god bless
I also restore old furniture and sell it and make new by hand and carve ornaments I also dabble in blacksmithing
And I'm second gen Swede and am fairly resistant to the cold and get the Swede night as now I'm 6ft
Utah? Haha, my friend you don't know the first thing about cold. But dang, 15 and looking to buy land? Best of luck!
Play Station I would like to go to a colder climate
Right on! I work in -16° degrees on a regular basis, It's far from enjoyable, but if you can do it more power to ya.
Definitely a breadboard.
Turned out nice! Now you can make another cute little project using that nice Jet lathe!!
That lovely green colour reminds me of "(English) Racing Green". Most old traditional machinery is/was painted that colour in England, most of our machinery in workshop in Oxford is Pre/post war and has the same timeless hue!
Uhhhh... I live in Sweden and to be honest. I’ve never seen in my life a butter knife like that...
keyword "traditional" it may have been popular in the past, not so much now
Made these in school when i was a kid :)
Greetings from Austria 🇦🇹
Should you treat the blade of the knife with a food safe wax or will the butter work as a coating of some kind?
I really enjoy these videos from your woodshop. It kinda feels more like a philosophy class. So humble, so much to learn!
Personally i dont care who was first, what the title said or how they made the butter knife.if we say oh thats been done youre a copy cat then you tube would have been dead long ago. Simeon has class and shows Gods grace in what he posted about. But you know what neither one copied. Jack made some butter knife earlier too. Chicken or the egg. You tubers need to grow up . I just dont care.Just watch and learn something.
Interesting how Swedish Homestead did the exact video prior and with exact Title...
Ginger Lundgren-Barron I think they did it first
I mean, they did this 8 months ago. Also there is no such thing as intellectual property sooo
honestly this is very deep emotional: 9/10 informative: 8/10
I can not put into words the satisfaction I get from watching you build projects like this. The hand tools do a very efficient job and I enjoy seeing them used. PS I can send you a picture of myself. I heard you saying you like to see something beautiful.LOL
Yes let’s see the breadboard
Can't handle the google commercial interruptions with any u tubers nothing personal but dog gone
absolutely, and that green line too!
Hey wranglerstar i have a two walnut trees are the good for axe and hatchet handles and other practical items?
When you you started talking while staining the handle all I could hear was Bob Ross painting pretty little birds and happy trees with a sleepy little cloud in the background hahaha. I was listening to the video but it was definitely a bob ross moment
Your zipper was down most of the video?
Tom Smith Eyes up here.
Traditionally, the swedish butter knife is made of juniper
tastas02 nope.
what wood would you say the traditional swedish butter knife traditionally is made of
It is diffrent. Depends on what the family had for firewood. You need The juniper is more of a medicin plant.
There's not really a definite answer to that. Regular irch is popular to use. Pretty much anything you got lying around works, as long as it's not pine, spruce, yew or some sort of laburnum.
Birch works great, and it's good for firewood as well. 🌳
What are you wiping on the bottom of your plane before you use it?
These traditions are so amazing thank you so much for sharing with us!!! Keep them coming please.
Wow wranglerstar! Way to step up your filming game with adding a film rail and having that camera motion as you sorted through the wood. That may be a lot of work and more time but folks like me can really appreciate that! Keep growing!
1:04 - How are you doing then panning of the camera when neither of your hands are touching it ? lol
I was about to ask the same question.
If u crop the video its easy to do in Adobe premiere
You can get a slider that moves by control of your phone look up edlekrone I believe it’s spelt and I have noticed his phone in a few videos with a Ismaili looking interface on the app to the one on the edlekrone video
The camera would be in a jig that rolls on a track
Would you need to put any type of finish on the blade part ?
This reminds me of my woodshop days back in middle School. I really appreciate you sharing this with us.
Bread board!!!
What the... that coffee looks like milk
always cheaper than coffee
I thought it was like a milk tea or something. I like my coffee dark/black.
Mathias Laakkonen i was about to say the same thing
Mathias Laakkonen In one of his other videos (surviving...) I saw how he makes it. Pours boiled water through coffee in a filter and BAM!, lots of milk. Just like I do it ;D
Mathias Laakkonen 1 oz weak coffee,
14 oz of milk, cream, coffee whitener and sugar.
Do you put any finish on the blade?? How about after care during use?
'Tis the season. Butter watch out. Butter not cry.
i don't wanna be the annoying swed but i make all my butter knives from juniper wood
no, not the same. Plants in the Juniperus genus are termed “juniper” and come in various forms
ManWithPlan ! Can be similar. For you I think Aromatic Red Cedar " www.wood-database.com/aromatic-red-cedar/" is close to Juniper in Sweden. In swedish Juniper is called "enbuske", or "en" and the wood "ene" if you wantto google it. The sheap imported wodden butterknives in stores in Sweden are allways beechwood thou.
Notif squad???
Got a Bob Ross moment when you opened up the stain and started describing it.
Mora is the provice 'Capital' of Dalarna. The traditional red color used to paint the houses was a by-product of the copper mines in Falun (another town in Dalarna), where they slaughtered a lot of bulls in order to make rope out of the sinew. the meat could be used to feed the people, and the blood was used to make the red paint.
isn't past your bed time Sir Wrangle??
Maybe add a matching trim for the cutting board
Do you have time to upload the sanding and carving under B roll footage playlist or however?
You copied this movie from somebody else
We uploaded a Swedish butter knife video 8 months ago. Here is the link goo.gl/sXN3Pz
Cody, I have been trying to access the Wranglermart website for some time now, but it keeps giving me an temporarily unavailable notice. Will it be up and running anytime soon?
What finish did you use on the unpainted spreading portion?
When i was a kid, I enjoyed the New Yankee workshop on PBS... I have missed that show. Videos like this scratch that itch really well.
Do you need to use treated or non treated would be better?
Where do you get all those woods? Literally all of my scraps are pine. I've never seen anything else for sale here.
This seems like a neat project for a first timer. Would you need to seal the blade end at all?
How do you clean these butter knives? I would think butter would go rancid in the wood pores?
That depends on the wood that you are using, usually a less porous wood is used. You can also treat it with oil to protext it, like a mineral oil or linseed oil.
😮beautiful, thanks for sharing. Just made my first Swedish butter knife last night😊
Proud Swede here, love to see you picking up the tradition. Great work sir!
Can you follow up video for cleaning and care of the knife? I might make one myself. Thanks.
Two questions. 1. What is the species of wood on that existing Swedish butter knife? I've got some unidentified scraps of wood and this might be it! 2. No finish on the blade? You just let the butter soak in?
Great video! How do you make sure the wood dosn't split after you have finished? Thanks
That was a neat project, and yes, let's see the set.
What would you use to oil the blade end with?
I absolutely love this project. It would be a delight to see a matching maple board to go along with it
You need to make a shirt with something on the fizz
Well done. You are not only good at explaining the how but are also encouraging. Hope you and your family have a very merry Christmas Season!
Definitely keen to see the bread board too please!! I very much enjoyed the simplicity and calming effect of you talking and painting softly. Thank you much enjoyed from Australia!
Yes, do the breadboard. They, after all, should be a set!
Yes please do the bread board. Do you put any kind of oils on the spreading end off the knife to seal it?
Butter knifes is the first thing we learn to do in woodworking class in school here in Sweden.
I really enjoy how you went full Bob Ross toward the end!
That is an awesome design for a butter knife. I would love to see the matching bread board video. I put this on my list of things to do in the future, Thank you for bringing ideas and your own unique touch here. Looking forward to more wood projects.
