Once again we see the lava flows. Incredible! The close up shots of the colours and steam coming from the lava was beautiful. I could spend a lot of time just looking at it. The trash someone tossed into one of the fissures shows not everyone appreciates this marvel. Thank you Valur and Art. It’s always nice to see Polly as well.
Thank you Valur and Polly! Glad to see that you are doing volcanocasts again. My favorite! Valur...you are so cute...such a warm personality. You..Polly and the volcano are the reasons I follow RGrapevine.
Wonderful program. Thanks to Valur, Art, the ever-enthusiastic Polly, and all those behind the scenes for giving us these glimpses into the culture and beauty of Iceland.
When I was there in 1970 Hekla erupted. I wasn't able to get off the Navy base to see it until near the end of the eruption, but it was still impressive. There were trails of hot lava running down the mountain. We were at the edge of the lava field. Despite being able to see some small glowing hot spots in the lava, we were amazed to see Icelanders climbing on top of the lava and digging small holes to cook food and heat coffee. One told us it was a lava party and invited to climb up and have some fried fish. I politely declined the offer :) Great newscast again. I must compliment Art on the videos again. I don't know if he has formal art training but if he doesn't, he has a great natural gift for composition. I often get the urge to pause the video and break out my oil paints.
Timing is everything on these eruptions. I was able to catch parts the 1980-81 Hekla eruptions while serving at NAS Keflavik. Spectacular to see Mother Nature at its wildest.
I don’t know what lifts my spirits more, the impressive number of all weather gear for every different type of weather (how many coats does Valur own? We should start counting!, Polly, the weather, or the lava fields! It looks so very cold there today. These videos are always the highlight of my day! Thank you to everyone at the Grapevine who keep this production going!
Another excellent report from Fagradalsfjall. I was fortunate to be there three weeks ago and even though it is no longer actively erupting, it is still magnificent to see. The hike up Langihryggur gave a great perspective over the whole area. I’m just sorry I missed seeing Valur, Art and sweet Pollý up there that day. Takk fyrir! 🇨🇦❤️🇮🇸
Wonderful to see how our favorite little mountain looks now! I do miss the active lava flows, but the stark beauty of a fresh lava field is almost as good. Art, your videography is superb as always! Valur and Polly, great reporting - I laughed out loud at the bit about "Grindavik shaking all the gottdamn time!" Reminded me so much of the way my grandfather talked (his branch of the ancestral tree left NE Iceland in the late 1870/early 1880s after one of the large eruptions...).
So lovely to see our volcano again. I have missed it😌. It still looks impressive as does Art's filming 🥰. BTW, assistants are quite important in the running of companies/ businesses and not a demeaning role at all👍. Thanks for the update💕
Such beautiful landscape scenes of the volcano 12:15 and the surrounding lava flow under a rippled sky 14:00 with amazing close ups of the cooling lava! Thank you so much :-)
I can't believe mice are native to Iceland so they must have been imported at some time in the past. How amazing that the mouse has got to be where it is, how disgusting that some selfish person has discarded their waste like that. Thank you Valur (& team) for this facinating update with the volcano, it is with much sadness (ill health) I have not been able travel to see it for myself. Your videos have brought the volcano to my home, truly facinating to watch and enjoy. Having visited in 2018 I understand the comments about the road, and Grindavik, and the Blue Lagoon, these are all so close but lucky to have avoided the lava (so far). I note from Lava Centre's email alerting service there has been an increase in earthquakes, no doubt watch points for all, and possible future video topics for you (!).
Thank you Valur! The crystal clear and professional production of these video is awe inspiring. The hosting by all the hosts is warm and welcoming, nobody could ever be more welcoming than Pollý, Art's camera work on the ground and in the air is the quality of a major motion picture, and the technical aspects of sound and lighting are always excellent. I must give deep thanks to Fagradalshraun for introducing me to The Reykjavík Grapevine and another equally talented source from Akureyri called Just Icelandic. It has been a very rewarding and enjoyable experience for me and I send you warm greetings from Boulder, Colorado.
I am glad you did an update on the volcano. Where I am there are very few who love volcanology as I do. So, thank you!! As for Poli, she’s the best looking morale officer I’ve ever seen-she’s a keeper.
Thank you for being with us during this incredible eruption. I am watching Bob from the 2nd day and I have watched every broadcast from you about the Volcano.
The lava fields are still quite impressive and beautiful. I enjoyed the close-up look and wish I could see it personally. Head scratches to Polly! Thanks so much.
Walked the steaming lava field and climbed the 3-km mountain to view the active volcano in September - stunning to see and experience for real. Lots of spectacular scenery in Iceland, but this was an amazing sight. The lava fields are massive, much larger than they look here.
Excellent commentary and photography yet again. Thank you from England for your efforts. Big tummy rub to Polly, too. She's the essential ambassador who adds to your superb input.
Thank you! ♥️ My husband and I were just there a couple weeks ago. I can still smell the clean air, feel the rocky uneven ground near the lava, feel the cold wind. There was no snow on the ground then....Lol, my videos all had wind noise as well. 😅 And we came to the volcano straight from the Airport. Did you stop and get fish and chips from Helgi's Street Food? 👍😉
Wow! Thank you! I miss this volcano! I still check on her regularly. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼she will bless us with another amazing show. Valor and Polly got me hooked on her from the start. 👋👏🍻 to you both.
Stunning beauty and videography! What an intrepid team, led by Polly 😸, to brave the elements and share the mountains, volcano and lava field with us. Much love from N. California!!! 💜🌋🇮🇸✌️😎
SMOKING HOT! Not just the lava! Lovely POLLY of course!! and maybe the two men, in front of the camera and behind! Great info! We'll see what happens volcano-wise! Stunning videography as always!! ❤
Nice that you visited the volcano again. I know that the volcano has stopped, but deep down I hope she starts again. Wishfull thinking . What a find the mouse in the lava.
The lava fields really are the star of the show right now. Thanks for the beautiful footage at the end, Art. My family really enjoyed their hike to the lower lava field three weeks ago. I am sure there are many more volcanic experiences in store for Iceland in the coming years. The frequent earthquakes make that a reality. Thanks again for braving the cold weather and wind to show us this beautiful place.
Wow, what an amazing huse area ist touched! I was not aware of the size! Thanks a lot for sharing! I have been there years ago, always impressive landscape. Best regards from Hamburg, Germany, and stay safe there
That wee mouse can´t believe its luck living in the lava "the central heating in the new place is great and someone threw in some popcorn so food is great too." 5 star review
The volcano and lava fields will always keep me intrigued. More than that look forward to the weekly reports about Iceland. Give Polly an extra treat for the great job that she does.
That scenery! With the cone in the far distance with the greenery on it, and then the lava fields stretching for as far as you could see, that would make a great setting for a fantasy novel!
I was up the A path today. The smoking lava is incredible. I wish I'd gone yesterday now and maybe bumped into you. Thanks again for the reports they are the reason I am here volcano spotting 😁
As many hours as I’ve spent watching this volcano on live feeds and other videos (and i’ve spent a LOT-hello BOBnation!), I always love seeing Art’s camera work on Grapevine’s volcano episodes. He always picks interesting angles and shots and shows me things I hadn’t seen before. Here, even with the volcano not spewing lava for months, he still gets amazing footage, showing us beautiful panorama shots of the volcano and lava field, and then the amazing close-up shots of the lava near the end of the video. Thanks so much Art, Valur, and of course Polly!
Careful Valur - the last time you said that the Volcano may be over, it erupted again. You Never know. Ha Ha - Just Kidding. It’s a fascinating area and I’m glad I was able to see the volcano in person. 🤣😉🌋
Amazing how it was not windy until you get to the top of the mountain. Good exercise for Polly. Need another smile from Polly. Great news I can not wait to come back but maybe in the summer months.
Yet again, Art out does himself with the lava cinematography! He should get a Nobel Prize for Literature. You know what they say about a picture being worth a thousand words. And Arts videos are 1000s of pictures put together 😉
‘It’s a lovely day. There’s no wind.’ 30 minutes later, stood on top of Big Ram leaning into a strong cold wind. :) lovely pictures btw. The winter snow really provides a beautiful contrast to the black lava fields
It looks just it was when I was there! Except there’s no wind, rain and fog… you can actually see more than a few metres. Otherwise - identical. Does the place still have that amazing smell? The burning peat under the lava flows was producing a smell like a peat fire you might get in Scotland or Ireland - and a bit like a really good Islay whisky. The fumes almost certainly contained all sorts of toxic hydrocarbons that will shorten my life - but oh that lovely smell…
Hello Valur and Polly. I notice she does not understand English. Around 15:04 of this video, I thought I saw something like a mouse move. There was some paper which looked as if she had shredded it. How could it live in the lava?
Quite disappointed that I didn’t get to see the eruptions in full flow, but very much looking forward to seeing the lava fields when I’m next there. Cheers guys, another great report.
Something is still active and alive there … right now, two tiny fire lights, like eyes or headlights, on the eastern rim of the volcano, watch mbl-cam every night. - But actually, that lava stuff must provide an ideal building material, when it keeps the heat and warmth for so long.
There are three stages of a volcano: Active , 🌋 dormant ( not been active for some years) and extinct ( dead -not erupted for many years and believed incapable of doing so).
That rat in the lava field must have the best place to stay for the winter in all of Iceland, floor heating all the time. Just the food might be a bit short in suplly there, if the tourists stay away in winter.
Lavaland! That's the name I gave this place just for fun in one of the comments maybe a week after it started... And I was worried as it got bigger and bigger, but finally at least in this eruption period it did not destroy any houses or roads. That's good... When I think of La Palma, that's a very dramatic scene with many houses close to the volcano, many houses already destroyed, a rather densely populated area at La Palma...
Valur & Grapevine…. we really enjoy your “newscasts” very much, but we kindly as you to PLEASE keep everything “family friendly.” Specifically, using God’s glorious Name in such a negative way is very distasteful to our family. You have something very good going here. Don’t ruin it with coarse colloquialisms. You are a blessing to us and we would miss you if we stopped watching. Takk takk fyrir hlusta og skilja.
I loved that commentary: "300,000 people came to visit the volcano and nobody died". Makes me curious how many visitors to iceland normally die. What's the quota? 2 per 100k? :D

That mouse has a super toasty little home for the next few winters!
That little mouse is very smart. What a lovely warm winter home!
Stunning beauty and videography! What an intrepid team, led by Polly 😸, to brave the elements and share the mountains, volcano and lava field with us.
Much love from N. California!!!

I'm always so impressed with the quality of your videos!! Thank you 😊 💓
Cameraman Art is under appreciated so big shout out to Art!
@@retiree1033 Thank you Art!! You rock!!
Takk! Very glad you like them!
Thank you for giving us an updated view of Geldingadalir and the lava fields, love your newscasts!
SMOKING HOT! Not just the lava! Lovely POLLY of course!! and maybe the two men, in front of the camera and behind! Great info! We'll see what happens volcano-wise! Stunning videography as always!! ❤
Thankyou for the update vid of our beloved volcano. Not so cranky, but oh so special.
Nice that you visited the volcano again. I know that the volcano has stopped, but deep down I hope she starts again. Wishfull thinking . What a find the mouse in the lava.
Valur, One of the beauties of your news cast is that it is spontaneous and unscripted. You do you.
Thanks for the drone footage at the end. When I saw the little critter in the lava I exclaimed, "You're kidding me!"
The lava fields really are the star of the show right now. Thanks for the beautiful footage at the end, Art. My family really enjoyed their hike to the lower lava field three weeks ago. Valur, Volcanoes are never considered dead, they are just in a dormant state. The scenery is very beautiful.
Ah they very much become dead AKA extinct!

I thought I was seeing things when it appeared!
Thanks for the update Valur and Polly. And the hardy camera crew!! I’ve been missing the volcano updates and the lava field looks so beautiful.

Thanks Valur… are you moonlighting for the Icelandic tourist board?.. “Come to Iceland and see our lovely volcano.. nobody died!”
Oh.. and did you suggest putting your hand between the cracks in the lava?😂😂
I was up the A path today. The smoking lava is incredible. I wish I'd gone yesterday now and maybe bumped into you.
Thanks again for the reports they are the reason I am here volcano spotting 😁
Landscape is amazing ! Looks selenar, similar we see in science fiction movies ! Thank you for your presentation ! 🌋👍
I was living in Iceland in 1980 when Hekla took the power off for a week with her eruption.
As many hours as I’ve spent watching this volcano on live feeds and other videos (and i’ve spent a LOT-hello BOBnation!), I always love seeing Art’s camera work on Grapevine’s volcano episodes. Steam, not smoke :)
Cone is off-gassing or still degassing.
Excellent to see the structure and gas bubble density of the cooling lava. Thank you :)
Wonderful scenery, fantastic video! I loved it!
Glad you enjoyed it!

such beautyful footage :-)
I just finished reading "Smilla's Sense of Snow". A good read.
Now that was a favourite novel of mine a few decades back. Thanks for the memory!
Knowing that Hekla volcano is called the "Gateway to Hell" makes it seem all the more likely that an eruption is overdue! It last blew in 2000.
Thanks much for this wonderfully recorded walkabout.
It looks just it was when I was there! Except there’s no wind, rain and fog… you can actually see more than a few metres. Otherwise - identical.

Mmmm . . . a really good Islay whisky!
Thank you for going back to the volcano!
holy cow, was that a mouse already making a warm home in the lava field?
Hello Valur and Polly. I notice she does not understand English. Around 15:04 of this video, I thought I saw something like a mouse move. There was some paper which looked as if she had shredded it. How could it live in the lava?

thank you, always great to see the 'cano and polly too of course
i love to snuggle up with a good book
Nice job fellas, keep it coming👍😃
I miss Valur's reports from when the volcano was in full flow and the drone footage, wow!. Good job ALL
I am blown away that the lava field is still smoking. Someone should tell that volcano that smoking is bad for your health. 😂🤣
That mouse is of course a Wood mouse (Apodemus sylvaticus) not a House mouse(Mus musculus) 15:00
The volcano looks so beautiful with its amazing colours. Thank you for the great video.
A wonderful newscast! And amazing cinematography!
wow you guys have got another 200 years of exitiment! ;D

Polly?…Assistant?…more like Boss Polly! 🤣👍
Nice warm place for the critters in Winter. hehe, thanks for the update. Happy thanks giving
Same to you!
Gahhhhhd that's gorgeous
Wow, I missed this one in November! Now its the next February and I'm glad I found it.
How much colder would you say it was once you got up on the ridge? (Rough estimate)
polly needs more video time :)
You are the Man!!!!
I hope Polly has her own piece in the Grapevine - would be a great read !!!!

Hey Polly Puppy... Ball tossing Master. Total Mountain climbing Doggy, love how Polly gets closer to the ground when walking in difficult environment.
What is the word that you say to Polly when you call her?
Thanks.
Don't. be afraid of the volcano, mind the goddam hiking, LOLOL
Thanks for all your good reportages and explainations. Would it be possible to buy certains photosextract for your news videos. Volcanos are amazing.
The Thing is.... "DON'T WALK ON LAVA!"
Good morning from Haida Gwaii....
christina broadhead, greetings to you from Wisconsin USA. I was happy to use the internet to learn a little about Haida Gwaii this morning!
Halló from Reykjavík Christina :)
Unbelievable! That little mouse living in there! (And disgusted that even there humans leave litter)
Magnificent
As they say: "It's not the Volcanoes that kill you in Iceland, its the Goddamn Beaches"

A mouse hole with underfloor heating!
Strange to see such a shallow stretch of lava could still be steaming away.
We'll have to clone Polly. Just saying. ;)
