Are the rates much better? Can you live well there as a translator? Because there are many companies that give translation jobs to EU based companies because they are much cheaper. Yes and no, I'd look for direct clients that do business with Portugal, but when it comes to agencies, that doesn't matter. There are agencies in almost every country that need Portuguese :)

Thanks for the video, I recently graduated from highschool and Im trying to get into translation jobs because im fluent in two languages, but its pretty difficult specially when you are up against people with translation certificates
As a certified translator I recommend you take some online course. We are trained in aspects that are many times not considered by just bilingual people. You can for sure become great at the job but I recommend studying on your own
@@ruizian I'm from Mexico and my bachelor's degree is on Translation I recommend you find a major in Translation if that's the path you want to go. The States is very intense about being certified afterwards but I believe formal education is the best way to learn about any real life situations and other aspects of translation such as subtitling, discourse analysis, interpreting, etc

Thank you for your advice!! I’ve been working on Upwork for the past 1,5 - 2 years doing translations (German-English-Greek).. As I’ve figured out, the keys are patience and consistency. I have earned over 1,500$ so far as a freelancer on this platform and I’m happy with it as it’s not my main job, but a job for some extra pocket money.

Yes, that's definitely tough. Try to gain experience with volunteer work!
As a certified translator I recommend you take some online course. We are trained in aspects that are many times not considered by just bilingual people.
