"I'm in debt"
Yeap, that checks out
My thought too XD
That like hit like a ton of bricks. Made me spit out my coffee.
Magic the gathering in a nutshell
Can’t relate, I use cockatrice.
That was my favorite part. 😂
When he said “I’m in debt” everyone felt that
That killed me almost.
Right in the wallet
Best line lol
Why are you filing bankruptcy the judge asked and the reply was because wizard of Coast puts out a new set every two months
Woof
Explaining every deck:
Birthing Pod - this was a Modern Deck before the eponymous card was banned. The principle way it would win would be through a combination of Melira, Sylvok Outcast that prevents creatures from getting counters, and a creature with Persist like Murderous Redcap or Kitchen Finks. With a sac outlet, they go infinite.
Burn - uses cards that deal direct damage to your opponent. Lava Spike, Chain Lightning, and Lightning Bolt are some of the more-recognized cards from it.
Bogles - Name for Slippery Bogle, the deck plays creatures with Hexproof and suits them up with enchantments like Rancor, Ethereal Armor, and Daybreak Coronet
Turbo Fog - Uses cards called Fogs (named for the card Fog, but includes stuff like Moment's Peace, Holy Day, or Darkness) to prevent opponents from winning through tradition combat damage
Turns - A deck that takes extra turns with effects like Temporal Mastery and Walk the Aeons.
Goblins - A deck that plays a lot of goblins, and wins by going wide or by using tricks like Goblin Grenade
Death and Taxes - a family of decks that focus on controlling the board and taxing opponents using effects like Rishadan Port, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, or Phyrexians Revoker
Boros, Rakdos, Orzhov, Gruul, Simic, Izzet - these are the "guilds of Ravnica", or two-color pairings. Boros is red-white, Rakdos is red-black, Orzhov is black-white, Gruul is red-green, Simic is blue-green, and Izzet is blue-red. They can refer to any number of decks within those color combinations.
Grixis - this is a "shard of Alara", or three-color pairing. Grixis is blue-black-red. Again, there can be all kinds of playstyles in that color framework.
Infect - This is a keyword from New Phyrexia. Using it, you could kill your opponent by dealing 10 damage instead of 20, so players use a small creature like Glistener Elf and pump spells like Groundswell, Might of Old Krosa, and Mutagenic Growth to quickly kill the opponent. There are other Infect decks that behave more slowly, but this was the common one in Modern.
Slivers - A creature type where each creature gives benefits to all the others, leading to board states that can quickly go out-of-control.
Zombies - a deck using many creature cards that are zombies, along with Lords or other "pay-off" cards, cards that give bonuses for playing zombies. Gravecrawler is a mainstay in the decks.
Miracles - uses cards with the Miracle mechanic from Avacyn Restored. In Legacy, it's often used with Sensei's Divining Top and Counterbalance. Entreat the Angels is a big finisher for the decks.
Fish - refers to Merfolk tribal, or playing creature cards that are Merfolk. Lord of Atlantis and other Merfolk Lords are common cards
Blitz - Is a general term for decks that try to kill the opponent quickly, but also the name of a mechanic in New Capenna
Spirits - refers to Spirits tribal, or playing creature cards that are spirits. Currently, Mausoleum Wanderer and Supreme Phantom are mainstays in the Pioneer deck, but Lingering Souls has traditionally been very important to it.
Mardu Vehicles - a dominant standard deck in its era, the deck used Vehicles like Smuggler's Copter and Heart of Kiran with fast creatures like Scrapheap Scrounger and Bomat Courier.
Aladdin's Ring - a very bad card, so bad that to say that you've played it is impressive. If you've played this junk, you must have played everything!
Legion's Landing - an enchantment that sees niche play in White Weenie, decks that use a lot of small white creatures.
4-Post, 8-Post, 12-Post - These refer to Cloudpost. In the original iteration, it only had the card Cloudpost, but as you could double them with cards like Vesuva and Glimmerpost later came out, you could have a lot of mana - nine mana with three lands, sixteen mana with four lands, etc. The count of post refers to how many Locuses you have in your deck (e.g. 4 Cloudpost + 4 Glimmerpost + 4 Vesuva = 12-post).
Hammer Time - this refers to decks with the card Colossus Hammer, which is cheap to get out and you can get around its equip cost with cards like Puresteel Paladin.
Stone-blade - Refers to decks with the card Stoneforge Mystic, which can get a lot of value from dropping Batterskull or Kaldra, Compleat into play. -blade originally referred to Sword equipment, like Sword of Fire and Ice, but those cards aren't as common in the deck anymore.
Death-blade - a Legacy deck name for Stonefore Mystic and Deathrite Shaman, a tempo deck that easily pivots between control and aggro, and uses Umezawa's Jitte.
Mage-blade - a tempo deck that uses smaller creatures for value (Snapcaster Mage, Delver of Secrets), then gives them an equipment (Sword of Feast or Famine) to have a recurring threat.
Astral Slide - a deck that used the eponymous card and cycling cards to get advantage.
Midrange - plays cards that are bigger and more expensive than aggro, but not so expensive that they'll get completed stomped by control decks.
Aggro - short for aggressive, this type of deck uses cheap threats to attack the opponent as quickly as possible, but has difficulty against decks that have bigger creatures than it.
Draw-go - some decks play completely reactively, mostly using instants to counter the opponents' spells. In such a case, their own turn will look like, "draw for turn, pass turn", leading it to be called draw-go.
Ante - an old mechanic that is now banned in all formats, ante cards had players remove cards from their decks, and whoever won the match got to keep the cards.
Mass Polymorph - This deck would play with only one creature in the whole deck, but it could make tokens. When you cast Mass Polymorph on your small token, you're guaranteed to get something big, like Emrakul the Aeons Torn.
Caw-go - a pun on Draw-go, Caw-go is a draw-go deck that uses Squadron Hawk as its main threat, and can recur it with cards like Mistveil Plains
Golgari - another of the aforementioned "guilds of Ravnica", Golgari is black-green.
Scapeshift - this deck uses the spell Scapeshift to sacrifice its lands and get a Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle or two and can immediately deal 18 or so damage to the opponent, winning instantly.
Maze's End - this deck wins with the card Maze's End. Theoretically.
Junk - Refers to the color combination of white-black-green. It's short for "good junk", as in "good stuff"
Every tribe, Humans, Lions, Tigers, Bears - "Tribe" refers to playing cards that share a creature type. Even types that have little-to-no Lords or payoff cards can still get some value with generic cards like Door of Destinies, Vanquisher's Banner, and Coat of Arms. While Humans have a lot of support and even once strong Modern decks, the other three creatures do not - Lions and Tigers aren't real types (they use Cat), and Bears have very little support, but Remy is referencing the Wizard of Oz.
Kenrith, Returned King - named for Kenrith, the Returned King.
Marit Lage with Fling - refers to the card Dark Depths, which can be turned into a 20/20 Marit Lage token using Vampire Hexmage or Thespian's Stage. Rather than worrying about attacking, the player can cast the spell Fling to kill their oppponent.
Landstill - refers to the card Standstill, where you force your opponent to play into Standstill to draw you a bunch of cards, but you can still threaten them with lands like Creeping Tar Pit
Lands - a deck that combos a bunch of lands together. This could refer to all kinds of combinations
Mill - you attempt to win the game by putting the opponent's deck into the graveyard with cards like Hedron Crab and Glimpse the Unthinkable.
Standstill - the aforementioned Standstill card features in this deck.
Superfriends - refers to a deck with several Planeswalkers. They become the Superfriends, a phrase that refers to an old name for DC superheroes teaming up.
Phases - Not sure what this is referring to, could be the ability "phasing"
Krasis - I think this refers to Hydroid Krasis, which served as an uncommon finisher in Standard at the time.
Stasis - This deck punishes opponents by using the card Stasis. It is notoriously frustrating to play against
Koth - refers to the Planeswalker Koth. It could be his duel deck, or another deck featuring him
Pox - refers to the card Pox, or its successor Smallpox. By playing fewer creatures and lands, you came out well ahead of your opponent when you play it.
Ponza - a red-green deck that focuses on land destruction
8-rack - Refers to 4 copies of The Rack and 4 copies of Shrieking Affliction. Uses discard cards and kill spells to control the board and kill the opponent with these two cards.
Temur Delver - Temur means red-green-blue. Delver refers to Delver of Secrets. This deck uses Delver of Secrets and many instants and sorceries in those colors to flip the card.
Red/Green Monsters - a deck in those colors that casts big creatures
Maverick - a toolbox deck that uses Green's Sun Zenith to find the perfect creature you need
Charbelcher - a deck that plays with no lands and wins by activating Goblin Charbelcher
Solar Flare - a dominant standard deck that was an Esper (white-black-blue) control deck that doubles as a reanimation deck (bringing back a strong card from the graveyard)
Polar Bears - not sure what he's referring to, but could be a Oyaminartok, Polar Werebear commander deck
Elves - a dominant tribal deck that casts elf creature spells
Weenie (white weenie, pink weenie) - refers to decks that use small creatures (often costing 1 or 2 mana) to pressure the opponent. Most commonly seen in white, but also in white-red (pink)
Merfolk with Morphling - a Merfolk deck that uses the card Morphling
Staticaster - refers to Izzet Staticaster, a popular sideboard card that dealt with a lot of impactful 1-mana cards in standard at the time, like Spirit tokens from Lingering Souls or Moorland Haunt, Snapcaster Mage, etc.
Counter-post - If I'm not mistaken, this refers to a control deck from the 90s
Counter-burn - a blue-red tempo deck that both counters spells and burns threats the opponent does summon
Counter-top, kitchen table - this refers to Magic you just play with friends in a casual setting
Show-and-Tell - the eponymous card lets you put an enormous creature into play and attack with it, practically sealing the game right there. Griselbrand and Emrakul, the Aeons Torn are popular targets for the card
Tooth-and-Nail - if you can Entwine this, you can win the game with a two-card combo
Tempered Steel - an artifact creature deck that casts Tempered steel to buff their board
top 8'd - he reached the top 8 in an event (possibly a Grand Prix)
Twin - Could refer to Splinter Twin, a combo deck where Pestermite or Deceiver Exarch get enchanted with Splinter Twin and go infinite
Snowko - I'm guessing it's playing Oko, Thief of Crowns in a deck with snow lands
Loam - a deck that uses Life from the Loam to recur lands
Burn - already mentioned it
Golos Stax - Stax refers to effects that cause your opponent to be taxed or sacrifice permanents, named after Smokestack. A Vintage deck plays Golos, Tireless Pilgrim in the Stax deck to keep cards flowing.
Prison - uses cards to prevent your opponent from attacking you, like Ghostly Prison.
Co-co - short for Collected Company, many creature-decks make use of the great value instant-speed card.
Uro - Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath, a powerful card that dominated all formats
Hogaak - a card that dominated modern, Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis was a graveyard-based deck that kept getting back this enormous beater.
High Tide - uses the card High Tide to make a ton of mana to combo off
Sultai - a deck that uses the colors black-green-blue
All Sky - no clue on this one, maybe all the creatures in the deck have flying?
Mono Red - a deck that plays only red cards
Tron - a deck that uses the Urza's Lands (Urza's Mine, Urza's Power Plant, Urza's Tower) to make a lot of mana and win with big colorless cards. Named for "Voltron", a mechanical hero that powers up when assembled, the lands power up when assembled.
Sligh - refers to Boss Sligh, a pioneer in aggressive red creature-based decks, those decks now carry his name
Dredgevine - a deck that uses the Dredge mechanic to dump a lot of cards into the graveyard, plays a land to return Bloodghasts, and Vengevines come with them, a pack of difficult-to-stop recurring threats
I'm in debt - the total cost of all the aforementioned decks is well into the hundreds of thousands of dollars, depending.
Artifacts I swing - this doesn't refer to any deck, he just means at times he attacks with artifact creatures.
Hornet Queen - this card has only rarely seen play, but I seem to recall it was a target for Whip of Erebos when both were in standard a while back
Notably, he's never played Lantern or Second Breakfast, so that's proof enough to me that he has some standards.
wtf dude
@@benjamin_burke props for the work on this one. Educational, too!
@@benjamin_burke Some minor corrections (just 2.5)
Minor self-edit: (Idk how to cross stuff out.) Just ignore this stuff about "Junk". It's wrong LOL
Pretty sure "Junk" is a play on words. It originally comes from the shards of alara color scheme of Jund. Turn D into K and you have Junk.
Artifacts, I swing - Probably refers to the Mirrodin block set where a majority of the cards there were centered around Artifacts and both the Affinity for Artifacts and Modular mechanics, featuring cards like Memnarch, Arcbound Ravager, Darksteel Colossus, Lightning Greaves, Arcbound Worker, Frogmite, etc. and was the origin set of the Artifact Lands, Platinum Angel, Eternal Witness, the Myr creature type, and the Beacons; just to name a few. The meta at the time was to always to play a bunch of Artifacts and swing with Modular creatures who (when killed) would offload their power onto other creatures so you'd always have something to attack with. The deck also ran such namesakes as Cranial Plating (which was reprinted in the final expansion of the block) and Thoughtcast. This era was also when I started playing Magic, so I remember it very well and I have an undying hatred for artifact decks because of this.
Blitz - is most-likely referring to the New Capenna mechanic because the other description you used is generally taken by the term "aggro" (which you described later). It might also refer to the Chess gamemode in which players take turns during a timed clock which constantly counts down for each player, if either player's time reaches 0, they lose. This is a widely popular gamemode in chess, but widely unpopular in card games so most-likely he's referring to New Capenna.
All-sky - This is the .5 correction because I'm not too sure either, but it might refer to Yorion, of the Sky who was a moderately new card at the time this video was made (before the ban of Lurrus if I recall correctly). The alternative is it refers to a deck of all "Flying" Creatures, which has been pretty common in many blue decks over the years.
Bless you
Was expecting it to end with something like "So what deck you got?"
'oh, it's X'
"huh, haven't played that"
Naw, he's actually too proud of the song to follow it with a punchline.
Wasn't a skit, no punchline ending xD
"It's Persistent Petitioners.... and 24 islands"
5 color good stuff
"It's Thrassios/Thymna!"
"Haven't played it, aint gonna"
"Tapped Aladdin's Ring man!"
He really has played everything if he's been that desperate
My favorite card back in the day. Never once even got to play it against someone that I remember.
What's awesome is that it actually sort of exists in Standard now, if that card is still in standard, it's 8 mana for 4 damage, red/green creature.
I mean, at least I'd rather put on Aladdin's Ring than Jandor's Ring.
@@njnjhjh8918 alladin's ring is 16 mana for 4 damage, solid ratio.
Aladdin's ring is fun to animate. I've killed people with flying carpet so yeah aladdin's ring foil is in a bunch of my edh decks lol.
Had watched this twice before realizing he didn't start out in cowboy garb. The gradual change was just one more great note on this whole video.

This one is a little weird because it's a great joke but it's about one of the only oldold formats he mentioned. Unless I missed it, he didn't mention Necro, Trix, Recsur, etc... so I was surprised that this one got in here with a cute (and applicable) joke
@@laxrulz7 no necro, or academy, or survival/recur/living death, or opalescence, but i did hear "pebbles"
@@laxrulz7 He did say Counter-Post, the UW Control deck from the 90's.
@@laxrulz7 "Pink Weenie" is super old. It's White Weenie with a red splash off Plateaus and a Mox Ruby so you can cast Lightning Bolt and Wheel of Fortune.

I have a Weird Al level of respect for Remy.

Every mtg youtuber trying to figure out what decks havent been made yet while also trying to progress in the ladder
Most of the really classic decks aren't mentioned (Necro, Trix, RecSur, ErnhamGeddon). He does mention Stasis (though we called it TurboStasis back then) and Slivers (which was counterslivers). He did hit most of the more modern era highlights (everything Odyssey and newer) except for Affinity which is a weird omission that I assume he just couldn't figure out a way to get it in.
@@laxrulz7 He did mention "artifacts I swing", which I heard as Affinity. He did miss a few though :)

i'm convinced that remy could preform as a regular musician and succeed. without a doubt. love your voice
Damn, he even played for Ante. He really has played everything.
@Dr. Quarex i assume because the creators originally thought the cards would be functionally worthless, and the kids playing it wouldn't care, or be set back much, if they lost a 2 cent card
@Dr.Quarex People gamble with real money all the time, and seem to enjoy it, even more than making a bet just for bragging rights.

That line had me rolling over in laughter.
I just can't get enough of this song :) the outfit change at the beginning is perfect.
231 likes to 0 dislikes seems like the proper ratio for this gem.
14 people clearly haven't played everything
@@MTGNetDecker They probably strictly play Land Destruction. Freakin' Timmies.
A new song, hell yeah! Thank you Remy
"I'm in debt."
Who knew, the greatest weapon to fell humanity;
was going to be a dozen small cardboard chips, used to play a card game...
Fantastic as usual!
Not even variety guy would touch Storm though 😄 (I am a Storm player myself btw)
"Marit Lage with fling, man!" :D Very nice!
I love how the other guy progresses throughout the song from just listening to just really jamming with the song.
this is a gem of a song lol, dont change remy, this stuff is gold.
Stasis (lost some friends)....
Hmmmmm. Nah, those decks are FUN!
As a stasis player I completely agree!
I hated playing against Stasis back in the day.😣
If it was good enough for Dr. Garfield, it's good enough for me.
I like that all the decks slide off the table when he says Astral Slide.
As someone who has played since 1994, I felt this
This is still my favourite MTG song by you Remy. Fantastic stuff
I love how the not Johhny Cash slowly gets more into it as the song goes on.
That was awesome! Missed UZI from back in Odyssey/Onslaught block standard. That deck was a beast. Float mana or Zombie Infestation, drop an Upheaval, discard everything for zombies with nothing else in play on either side.
He even played Jund-Yorion
dont forget temur burn bc oko
I keep thinking your better days of Magic music paradise would be behind you, yet the quality is only amping up. Good job, seriously.
Video footage of all decks in action or it didn’t happen
the parody's one thing, but remy's singing level is another thing
Was waiting for the moment in the end when the music stops, Beanie-Remy asks if he has played a Knight Deck or whatever, and Cowboy-Remy casually says "Nah man, haven't played that one".
This might be your best song yet.
I love the range on singing! Very underrated!
My favorite thing about your videos is that you can literally see the pure joy on your face that you get from making these videos. Like even you can't help but pull this giant smile in the middle of the songs it's amazing.
yep that's what makes it so good. he's not criticizing (or idolozing) magic, he's just having fun. Which makes it so good.
i love the KAREOKE vibe here! M30 in Vegas should play your video and sing along
You even played the other guy by taking his backpack at 1:35, glad you returned it back to him.
You sing really well!
Also, as someone who loved to play Stasis, I felt that.
Yes yes yes! Comedy genius, man
I'm now certain Remy's best genre is country.
Missing my favorite Madness, but then again, this probably qualifies.
haha Madness was also my favourite
oh you like magic? name every deck
Remy: try me
The simple "oh my" is what did it for me
Lions and tigers and bears...
Remy been on UA-cam since the beginning. This is awesome!
"Stasis(lost some friend) " sounds accurate
can't stop watching this video! Remy, keep spreading joy!
The next legend. Wait till he finds out about land destruction deck 😜
He talked abt it he said ponza somewhere In there
@@JaceKamakazi watch it again ponza is in there, at 1:13
@@JaceKamakazi ah yes the deck running up to or more than 12 land destruction effects, blood moon etc isn’t a land destruction deck. Do you know what ponza is lmao
This song has been on my playlist since release, and I still love listening to it when it comes on. :))
