In the 70's as a toddler I started with the MEGO dolls/figures and Superman was a favorite. I remember him being stuck on a roof, and a tree from throwing him for flying action. lol But yeah, I've loved Superman as a character from a young age. Fast forward to today, I own a few different Superman figures, almost bought the DC Collectables 12' figure a few years ago, bought and then sold the Alex Ross Kingdom Come Superman figure, bought the New 52 Medicom Superman figure, and initially passed on the Sideshow figure due to the price. However recently found an online Toy store based in AU, selling this for $140 USD after S&H, so I could not pass this one up. Honestly prefer the aesthetic of this comic book version to the Hot Toys Christopher Reeve Superman, I have seen them side by side. As much as I appreciate the Christopher Reeve Superman movies I grew up with, I prefer a face sculpt with Curt Swan, Neil Adams, José Luis García-López, George Perez, John Byrne, Alex Ross, or Ivan Reis inspiration.

Hey Jordan another great review covering the entire figure with the likes and dislikes. The belt and shorts I don't like either and they could've added a few more degrees of muscularity. And those legs look too skinny for the man of steel. I got this figure and I have to agree with everything you stated. They could've done a better job like they did with Batman.
I like your reviews and very honest! I agreed with your point that this figure doesn't bring any nostalgia to any movie or show like how Christoper Reeve figure does. Keep up the good work!

You give a completely honest review. Lots of things I didn't like about this figure. One small nit pick could be overlooked, but 3 major things. Big things to be exact. That huge wide face, the poor quality stitching, and last but not least......That awful skinny body. Superman is buf not some small guy in a suit. Batman was superb and has the perfect frame. Superman can lift tons. And hold his own against the most powerful. Not this scrawny guy. I'm glad I passed on him. The price point for this figure is no excuse for the mistakes sideshow made. They could've at least used the batman body. That's sideshow for you. Maybe the Indiana Jones figure will make up for it when they release him. He looks good. You didn't kiss but and brag like a couple of other people on you tube, lie about how great this figure is. You kept it real. I don't remember if I already commented or not, but here goes...I really enjoy your reviews. I can watch them more than once and it never gets boring. I totally agree with you about this figure. I did not like it that much when I first saw it. Superman is NOT a complicated figure in my opinion and there's really no excuse why they can't seem to get him right. The 2 best 1/6 scale Superman figures by far are the Christopher Reeves version, and the Henry Cavil version. Those 2 are awesome, but I'm not crazy about any of the generic 1/6 scale versions. It seems like unless they have an Actor's face to go by, they just can't do a great job on the face. The sunken in cheeks, the overly serious expression- Superman looks like is ready for retirement. The Christopher Reeve and Henry Cavil versions are the only ones I plan to buy so far.

But I truly feel even THEY couldn't look at this fig. in Post production, and say "Yes, we hit it outta park!" Oh well, Maybe their other DC & Marvel figs coming soon will be better. Yeah you said what I was thinking about that figure. I couldn't get myself to get him or batsman even though bats is a much stronger figure. The prices has gotten way out of control and I've had to slow way down on buying the latest and greatest and I wait for the ones that really grabs me! Thanks for another great and honest review! J

Another great review! I own this figure and i'm almost happy with it. I agree with the quality issues, but i got this guy as standard edition in a sale for approx half the price. From that point of view it's really worth it!
Francisco Valdez Hey Francisco Valdez, In answer to your 'Should you by' question, Id say it depends on how BIG a Superman Collector/Fan you are. This figure is by no means perfect, but, it is a 12" Superman action figure and there aren't that many 12" Representations of Supes around, So, for that reason alone Id say Yes get him, But that would be about the ONLY reason to get it. Also, with your SS points and savings, there's not much risk in buying him. Plus there are no new 12" Superman figures coming out anytime soon. So Go for it! +Gifted Monkey Hey, thanks for your input! Yeah, Superman is my favorite superhero. I do already own the Hot Toys Henry Cavill Superman, but I don't want to stop there! I just want a classic looking Superman, but wasn't sure if this is the one. You said that we won't get a classic looking Superman anytime soon, so I'll get this one. Alot of the issues dont really bother me. I'm going to display him with the heat vision eyes, and make him look down, maybe, that'll make his neck and head proportions look better. Other than that I think the figure looks fantastic. Thanks again for your answer. It really helped. Long live Superman! :D
Really great to see your opinion on this figure Jordan! I couldn't agree more about all the points you raised. The body seems too small and jaw line far too wide for the figure to appear pleasing to the eye. The stitching is actually pretty subpar but I think i 'might' still pick it up!! I've seen a fantastic custom done by Tony Mei which includes using a MOS Hot Toys body (which fits in perfectly with the sideshow heads!!). Also he made an awesome custom suit for him and the tailoring is top notch. Think that's the route i'm gonna go down. Great review as always....Good to see you back on the tube buddy!!
Hey Stew, LOVE when you pop in! Yes, I bet the Tony Mei Mods are GREAT, as they always are! But if us collectors have to purchase a "Complete" Figure for around $200.00+, then turn around and BUY$$$$ extra things to make the figure Look Better or more accurate, What are we paying Sideshow for??? I believe that's THEIR job in the first place. And how can you get Superman "WRONG"???? DC Direct had the same type problems with their first 13" Supes fig. But in all fairness that older fig. was a pioneer of sorts, but now it's 2015 and MANY 1/6 Scale figures based on alot of Superheroes have been produced correctly (Even by Sideshow!) So, I don't quite understand this Misstep with such an Iconic, and in some aspect "Easy" subject! Hope they do better! Ok,I'm off my Soapbox now LOl, I know You, Mike, Peter and I as well as many Supes fans will get this guy regardless,. So, Let's make the best of it I guess. Thanks for watching, Stew. No I do not really like that Superman that's the reason why I enjoy watching your program because you are very honest you going to tell us the truth about a figure yes I have seen those boxes in Hobby Lobby and other places steven has a ones to go on the wall they look like the old comic books they also made out of wood when I get the chance I'll put them in my nerd room
When I first saw the Preorder pictures I was like "NAAAW, there's NO WAY they're gonna give BATMAN a bulkier body then SUPERMAN, so I waited. Batman came out and I canceled my order because I think he's just too Damn BIG, but thought "Hey at least they'll use this Hugh body for Superman................... nope! They gave The Man of STEEL a SMALLER BODY than BATMAN!! LOL.... TOTAL FAIL!! Sorry for all the caps, but come on Sideshow! If they can't get THESE two right the line is officially DOOMED!
Hey humanbeingill, I too, don't get why Sideshow decided to make Batman "Bigger" then Superman! In what universe does THAT work??? And yes they could have at least used the same Muscular body sculpt for BOTH figs. This was a Misstep in a rather cool line of DC Figures.
Great review! You really point out some of the most glaring flaws in this version of Superman. And while I sort of like the fact that Supe's facial design seems to be based on the silver, bronze, and modern age versions of the character, it does (as you specified) leave me feeling a bit confused by the design's overall direction.

Man this is not "basic" Superman, it's the original comic book Superman. Reeve, Cavill, are just actors, the iconic is the character.

Why does this superman figure look like he's 48 years old!

That head sculpt is awful. This should be the Hispanic Superman version.
Jay once again your a s straight shooter I feel the exact same way I'm really on the fence about this figure I love Superman I love the iconic look but it's a lot of things about it they're really grinds my gears but with that said I always enjoy the reviews make sure you check out mine also and thanks again like I said man got a nice shout out to you so check it out thanks J respect the monkey and play nice! !
