I can completely sympathize with that. Earlier this year, I was laid off from a job that I was making good money doing, and at a bad time too, no less. I wasn’t in a custody battle but I couldn’t live off unemployment benefits.
Luckily, I was able to land back on my feet within 3 weeks. And just like Mr. Kramer, my salary was reduced but I didn’t care because I needed a job.

Matt Prado My problem is last year my Father passed away so that meant I had to move away from my hometown for the first time in my life to live with family elsewhere in the world so that meant I had to quit work as well as leaving friends & family behind! Then I am diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome which means I am a highly functioning autistic adult! This year has started out really bad for me. I just want to find a job now some where some place.

@Rob Jaimes It’s a brilliant scene. He’s in command of his talent. The dialogue when he says “No this is a one-day offer.” He knows his worth. It’s a two way street. They need each other. There’s a great book called How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie published in the 1930s & talks about this.

I watched this movie a few months ago, during a time filled with uncertainty.
I was about to lose my job. I didn't know what the future had in store for me. I was terrified at the idea of being unemployed. I had already experienced unemployment in my life, and I was afraid to go back to that dark place again.
Four days after I quit my former job, I got the opportunity to attend an interview for a job position I had applied for. This was exactly the opportunity I was looking for.
I went to this interview with the same determination as Ted, having promised myself that I would get the job no matter what.
I had downloaded the audio clip of this scene into my phone. While on my way going to the interview, I kept listening to it, again and again.
This scene served as my inspiration.
I attended the interview, gave it my best shot, tried to appear as confident as Dustin Hoffman.
And two days later, i got the job.
This scene will always be special to me because it inspired me beyond words.
At a time when I was lost, it gave me the courage to keep hoping. It played a major part in the fact that I finally got the job I've been looking for.

For those who haven’t seen the full movie or don’t remember the context, it wasn’t just the desperation of being out of work, which is already portrayed well here. He had an impending custody hearing scheduled for the first week of January and would’ve been completely done for going into that without employment. The $4800 less in salary was absolutely meaningless compared to the possibility of losing his son. He guaranteed his lawyer a job in 24 hours, and he delivered.

    • @laminage

Amen! Ya Gotta Do What Ya Gotta Do to get paid. Dustin Hoffman's Facial Expressions are brilliant. Although what he did Kissing The Lady would be "bad" by today's standards when you have good fortune you are so happy you overlook certain things. These guys should be impressed that Ted doesn't mind the Salary. Now more than ever folks are taking lower Salaries. It's like an Accountant being demoted to being a Bookkeeper not that there's anything wrong with that but it happens.

How badass is that man?! He walked into a last-minute interview two days before Christmas with the greatest poker face and balls of steel all whilst being under the highest level of pressure, because he just couldn't leave that office with a rejection, since that would cost him the custody of his son. You see non of the actual desperation in his face or body movement. Despite everything that's at stake here and with a ticking clock, Kramer remains perfectly composed, calm, and professional and just gets it done! - I probably would've shown all my despair with every phrase and gesture...if not just told them about the whole custody battle situation! - I don't even have kids yet, but this is so inspirational!

I think it's a matter of luck: the emotions are usually hard to control for anybody, and sometimes being backed into a corner just gets the adrenaline flowing, pepping one up. In real life, 8 out of ten times the guy would flinch, giving some sign of desperation that would turn them, off. On the other hand, he caught them in a holiday celebration which might have made them generous: who wouldn't enjoy the holiday more giving a guy a job, versus sending him home in despair? A lot of interesting variables and factors here.

In the context of the film, knowing that failure will almost certainly mean losing his son, Ted's under huge pressure, with this contrasted by the fun and joy of the party at the office. But throughout he remains determined, clear on what he wants and firm whilst staying polite. He won't let any obstacle stand in his way and the payoff is the relief and happiness in his face at 4:08 when he gets what he needs.

In 2022, he’d get fired one minute after getting hired for kissing that lady without her consent which is technically sexual assault. If she decides to call the cops he might even get arrested. Mrs. Kramer would use that against him in court and he’d lose the kid permanently. It’d be an entirely different movie 😆

I have been trying to find this song (on and off) for the alt 7 years - by every now and then doing a search on some of the lyrics - nothing ever comes up ... @@dianadugina883 have you seen the mad men series also? I agree with you. At countrywide home loans from 2002 to 2007, they hired a lot of young people and the housing or mortgage business was booming. there was no drug tests required and more than half the people were probably high while working. a lot were also temporary workers, and if they needed permanent workers, they just hired them through the employment agencies. A lot of this stuff depicted in this party happened, although inappropriate. I'm not sure what happened at the holiday parties, etc, because I didn't go to them, but even from 2002-2007 I remember it being loose, with alcohol and dancing provided, although probably not as blatant as what is depicted here, like directly kissing a female you just saw. If most people listen to music and party, and not listen to news stories, they wouldn't know about harassment issues or sexual harassment, etc. This was even during the second iraq war but your average young person still didn't care back then. They even had female and male soldiers who returned from iraq I think, but nobody seemed to care. Unlike now perhaps where more young people are paying attention to political issues. There was no required courses on how to act, at countrywide home loans from what I recall, other than a worded warning perhaps in whatever you signed, before you got hired. I'm sure some were aware of the issues, but there were still a lot of wild after hour parties, and everyone just accepting what was going on, without any critical thought about it. Lots of inappropriate contact, kissing, comments, and stories inside this large three floor building. It was just what was going on for hundreds of years basically. It was better to be a forceful woman who could defend herself, if you needed to, and this was three decades after this movie, more or less etc. Of course you had your sensitive female who would report you for saying something nice, but that was usually rare. That was one reason I didn't say much while working there, because of a past previous experience. I just was more careful, when I needed to be, after that. I just made sure I was talking to a woman who seemed more relaxed and not strict. Although I got in trouble for complaining about what I saw was laziness by some workers, which was an unusual thing for me to be put on probation for. Why would I get in trouble for that? Anyway, I agree with you.

It's far below him but he knows that Beggars Can't Be Choosers. Elliot finds out and he is furious but Michael tells him, he's Two Months behind on his Mortgage, his Wife Hope isn't working and they have a New Baby coming which is a miracle since they suffered a miscarriage.
