    Could you make a video for how to say the full Rosary in Latin?

    • @corfidelis
      @corfidelis  2 роки тому +4

      Hello, that is a great suggestion. I could do so, but that would be one very long video. I have made an instructional video on every single prayer in the Rosary and put them in order on this page on my website: corfidelis.com/2022/02/15/the-rosary-in-latin-a-text-pronunciation-guide-for-all-the-prayers-in-one-place/ . Please visit that page and let me know how it works for you. If you still think it would be helpful, please reply here by telling me so, and I will try to make such a video for you. Thank you for your suggestion and God bless!

    Thank you, do you have a playlist (or can you please create one) for learning how to say the responses in the Traditional Latin Mass.

    • @corfidelis
      @corfidelis  2 роки тому +4

      Hello, I have a couple of videos on things we pray during Mass so far. This one is likely most useful for you, for the prayers at the foot of the altar. I made it in a hurry for a student trying to learn the server responses and work on pronunciation, so there is one obvious mistake, but it should help. I'll put your playlist for Mass responses idea on my list for the future too, thanks!

    Recently, I have been studying Knights Templar history, where I recall one of your ecclesiastical latin lessons where it appears you have taught us their moto. Was this by design?

    • @corfidelis
      @corfidelis  Рік тому +3

      No, it wasn't. I took it from Scripture, where the knights got it, too, presuming you mean "Non nobis, Domine". I was unaware that it was their motto. Their early history, especially involving St. Bernard was really cool. Thanks for teaching me that tidbit!

    Could you make a video on why study Ecclesiastical Latin. I'm on my first Ecclesiastical Latin class and don't know whether to keep going or stop since it's really just for my own knowledge and not for school.

    Weren't V's pronounced like W's? So it would be Sal-way?

    • @corfidelis
      @corfidelis  11 місяців тому +2

      Good question. In what people call "classical" Latin, most people do pronounce the V as a W, yes. That is a theoretical system based on studying other languages that came from Latin. This is "Ecclesiastical" or practical Latin, in which the V is the same as we use it in English or Italian today, as handed on by the Church for many centuries. I hope that helps. God bless!

    Why do you sound the letter h on habet? I thought it is silent. Is it an exemption?

    • @corfidelis
      @corfidelis  2 роки тому +6

      St. Augustine discussed that the way people pronounce the "h" when speaking Latin was an easy way to discern whether they're Roman or not. You will find differing opinions in Ecclesiastical Latin on how to pronounce the H: 1) skip it, 2) pronounce it as in English, 3) give a guttural thump, or 4) make it a bit more of a harsh "h" similar to Hebrew. Options 3 & 4 seem to be the most authentic universal (not affected by local or national language) options, especially #4 since #3 seems to be more of a Greek influence. Ancient Romans and the Latins affected by that language were very practical and logical. Having a letter with no purpose in a spoken language (i.e., not pronounced) would have been an abomination. I teach option 4 as the best choice.
