Great show of respect from Hunter before his duel. Wishing the contender good luck by tapping the pugil stick. That’s why Hunter was on my favorites on the UK version of Gladiators. Always respectful before and after the events.
Shadows life's quite a sad story. He was born in London to Jamaican parents. King moved to New York City as a 14-year-old. There he excelled in sports and was on the school American Football team.[1] At that time he began lifting weights and developing his physique.[1] He fell victim to the crack boom of the late 70s, however, and became a drug addict. Living with his mother, his mother requested help from his father back in England who sent money to pay for his fare to England to escape drugs. Jefferson spent the money his father sent twice on drugs before the third time he finally got a ticket and moved to England.[1] Believing he was now free from drugs, he came back to England at the time when the drug industry was becoming big in the country and couldn't escape from it.[1] However, at some point he appears to have overcome his habit and married and had two children. He began concentrating on bodybuilding again and began intensive training.[1] As King was preparing to enter into the world of professional bodybuilding, he received a phone call from the producers of ITV's Gladiators in Birmingham requesting that he join the show.[1] Shadow was legendary for his icy stare and his record in the 'Duel' event. One of the most highly respected and intimidating members of the Gladiators team, he once hit his opponent so hard in the Joust event that the ends of the pugil stick were clearly damaged. He also successfully served as captain for the Gladiators. In early 1995, King was at the centre of an apparent steroid abuse scandal which saw him lose his job on the show.[2][3] He was outed by the press after taking drugs in a London nightclub in King's Road.[1] Losing his job, his home in Kidderminster, Worcs., and his wife and kids moving to Essex, he moved to London where he set up a business.[1] King become a wrestler and had a cameo role in the Spice Girls movie Spiceworld in 1997. However, his fall from grace saw him turn to drugs again and he fell victim to severe drug abuse, smoking heroin and crack cocaine, amongst other drugs.[1] He struggled to deal with his addiction for nearly 20 years, turning to a life of crime to pay for his drug habit which saw him in and out of jail.[1] In March 2005, whilst travelling on the top deck of a 205 bus in Southall, London, King was discovered in possession of an elderly person's bus pass, which he had shown to the driver to board the bus, despite being only 43 at the time. He was arrested for being in possession of stolen property, and taken to Southall Police Station. In an April 2011 interview he reports that he has now finally beaten his addiction and works at a drug rehabilitation clinic to help people suffering from drug problems and has restored contacts with his ex-wife and twin children Theo and Tiffany and his mother who he avoided for many years because "he didn't want her seeing him like that".
Zodiac getting all the Wolf Whistles from the army guys mates in her post Atlaspheres interview. Also Nightshade's first time in Atlaspheres, not that it was really a competition that matters for the glads record.
For those unaware, Ullie was on maternity leave, about to give birth to her first child, Cameron. I guess the producers didn't feel it was appropriate to have Mike Adamle (who was in Birmingham for upcoming the International Gladiators) serve as Fash's partner due to its nature, so they had the Awooga man go solo (and forcing Nightshade to pull double duty on The Wall, interviewing Paul after she pulled him off). 12:25; I think that was the only time something like that happened. I wonder how long it took for the crew to get the top back up there. I'm sure the American Gladiators were happy that none of them ended up having to climb the dreaded Pole-Axe (Familiar faces Nightshade and Hunter climbed the Pole in the first IG series. The only non-Brits to compete in that event were South Africa's Sahara {RIP} and Germany's Giant in the second series). And, yes, the military men are all wearing the infamous black shorts that the boys wore during the Series 3 heats.
Probably to get some use out of them (the female Glads) since there have never been any female contenders in these specials. Strange, since the American Gladiators had female contenders in many of their specials.
@@adenharrison4543 it’s been announced months ago but I’ll say it again. Gladiators is having another reboot and it will air on BBC One. Bradley and Barney Walsh are the hosts and the reboot should premiere on our screens in either September or October.
Despite his personal life Shadow was a great gladiator, he was always humble and always praised the contestants after each game

I loved it when Nightshade took to the mike at 21:30 during the Wall event. Huge respect from the Glads and the Forces alike :-)
I was in the audience with my family to cheer on the Army. ^_^
Then I went on to join the RAF
36:43-Shadow's last Duel and there for the last use of Edwin Starr's War.
Andrew Clarke all male gladiators were on drugs. Every male gladiator there has ever been.
@Andrew Clarke all the male gladiators were steroids to the eyeballs... Unnaturally high muscle mass

@@davemurray3203wow, thank you for this. What an interesting and sad read. Glad he's turned his life around now.
What was it good for?

And speaking of double duty (and due to Warrior and Saracen being absent) Wolf ends up doing both Pyramids whilst Hunter does both Powerballs.
Tubewings And Nightshade did a better presenting job in those 30 seconds than Fash did in 6-7 series of Gladiators
HellKaiserRika You mean Jeremy Guscott, don't you?
Deep Ghoul I mean Fash presented 6 to 7 series of Gladiators- bar that one series where he didn't -_-*
HellKaiserRika Oh right, sorry. I just know that Fash didn't host Series 6 and 7, but Guscott did.
I wish Scorpio could've continued longer.
Why couldn't they have one male and one female contender apiece from the Army, Navy, and Air Force of the U.K.?
Women were not allowed in the Infantry at the time.
RIP Hawk.
The American Gladiators are Afraid of the Pole-axe,.They have was Ulrich Stern has...
Vertigo!
12:25: TIMBER!
when you're going down take something with you
41:40
Ulrika must be in labor during filming
She was. This was why she didn’t do Inernational gladiators 1
Warrior and Saracen missing.
Why weren't the armed forces guys allowed to keep the money?
More Gladiators gameshow on you tube please and when is gladiators gameshow back on challenge and I am missing this programme 😢
Wolf seemed to enjoy the sight and taste of his own blood
Why in every special show of gladiators where we see men are up against female gladiators ?
Probably to get some use out of them (the female Glads) since there have never been any female contenders in these specials. Strange, since the American Gladiators had female contenders in many of their specials.
For non contract events such as atlaspheres.
@@Tubewings If gladiators came back again who would host it?
@@adenharrison4543 I honestly don't know.

Why have the female gladiators on the wall? I get it for the celebrity specials but not for the military
No wolf again
Wolf was on this episode
His nose was bleeding after Powerball.
"My Dad Thinks Wolf Is A Wimp" 😆
Paul the Royal Marine was NOT happy about being caught on The Wall by Nightshade, let alone a girl.
He'd never live that down in barracks after.
