Go into a compressor on drum bus first with only the kick hitting it to 1-2db (you can use the API 2500, ssl bus comp, glue comp, shmc, Neve 33609, etc. There are a lot of common choices). Add some even and uneven harmonic distortion, maybe some lower frequency enhancement and a clipper at the end. On the tracks themselves you can put a limiter if the sounds are too dynamic (generally 1-2db are almost always enough), eq unpleasant resonances or muddiness and a secret weapon: bitcrush on cymbals. The rest is balancing volume
Would you recommend making your bassline or drums first
Great tips. All the small touches add a lot of groove and movement in the grand scheme
More of this, please. THANKS!
Awesome video mate. Thanks for the concise info.
Thank you very much bro! you made me so much less scared about music theory

definitely helped great tutorial mate, thanks a lot!
I'm starting to see where I go wrong. You're using the complete dynamic range of your sounds where I tend to drive them into a limiter too much.
drive drum sounds into clippers, this way you can control their dynamic range but they still feel very punchy
