Oooh, this kind of video is just what I need. I definitely need to know the best fighters for Ark Survival Evolved. I recently got through the Beta Tek cave and beat the Overseer! I’m quite proud of that.
But it does mean that I’m finally off the Island. It’s been such a long time and a very lengthy journey although a very enjoyable one for the most part. I freely admit that the whole caving for Artifacts thing looooooong wore out it’s welcome. I get that once the Island was pretty much the entire game but really I do fully believe that the Devs should have cut the amounts of Artifacts that you needed to find to two per boss.
So after Beta Ascending I returned to the Island to figure out what tames and items I would be transferring to the next map and decide which map it would be. While Ark has somewhat cured me of becoming too attached to any one tame, I still have a few treasured bloodlines of my most loyal and useful creatures.
I make sure that I have either eggs or cryopodded babies of every tame I take into a cave or boss fight so I can honour those who perform well but perish by raising their baby. Anyway, whittling down the list to about 25 by selectively merging bloodlines into a single creature gave me time to think about.
Really it boiled down to two choices. Follow the story to Scorched Earth (I plan to do them all in sequence while interspersed with the custom maps.) Or crystal isle. I’ve had an obsession with crystal Wyverns ever since I was given one in multiplayer and gmsummoned one in single player because Argys are just no speed match in comparison. I really want to get more.
Incidentally I simply must disagree with you about the combat effectiveness of the Crystal Wyvern. Yes it’s very bad at precision landings and accurately biting small opponents, but the breath attack more than makes up for it. It might be just me but the Ember Crystal Wyvern seems to pack the most punch. Just aim the breath in the general vicinity of the opponent and you’ll wreck them. I can frequently take out 2-4 of those pesky thief seagulls in a single attack.
Anyway I ended up choosing Crystal Isle and so far I’ve been having a great experience for the most part. Okay I got ambushed by a pack of Direwolves so quick that I hadn’t even finished dumping the ton of useless skins straight after spawning. The immediate respawn was much better. The absolute vastness of the map is a bit overwhelming at first-not to mention the plethora of unfamiliar biomes that aren’t on the Island.
So after building a small base of operations and getting a bit settled in with primitive but still useful tools I tamed an Argy, saddled him and set out towards the green Obelisk to reclaim my items and tames. And of my goodness I absolutely love this map! It has so many flat spaces and little spawn-free islands I’m spoiled for choice. Ended setting up on a small island not far from the green obelisk, though I have now set up three main bases near each obelisk.
I had a great Ark experience taming a male tropical Wyvern to eventually breed with my female. Flying around him between crystals felt like a dance of dragons. (Kudos to anyone who recognises that reference.) So I named him Skydance. Such a perfect Ark moment for me.
Anyway, I consider them, Yutys, Daeodons, Rexes and Theris to be my best combat tames. Also the Basilo, and Argentavis .
