Swedish Punch: Carl Gustaf M4 Anti-tank Weapon - MAAWS

- The Saab Bofors Dynamics-produced Carl Gustaf recoilless rifle or MAAWS stands as a highly versatile, man-portable anti-tank and anti-structure weapon system. The most modern variants fielded by Swedish rifle companies have been fitted with the Swedish Aimpoint sighting system. The Gustaf M4 anti-tank weapon system, can be fired from the standing, kneeling, sitting or prone positions, and a bipod may be attached in front of the shoulder piece. An operating handle called the "Venturi lock" is used to move the hinged breech to one side for reloading. The Carl Gustaf Recoilless Rifle is renowned for being one of the loudest weapons on the battlefield. Because of these features, the Carl Gustav gun is defined as Swedish punch.
Kind of cool that in the US this weapon is primarily used by special forces while in Sweden this is standard gear for the home guard.
Home Guard SEAL team 👍
They jump on any occasion to dive in to the defense of their country
Yes but it’s a Swedish weapon. UKSF don’t use the SA80.
@@GB-mu9ueNeither does the Swedish Home Guard , because the SA80 is a British bullpup and a total failure. They uses the AK4, a Swedish version of the G3 and made in Sweden.
Regular rifle companies utilize the carl g’s as well, at least in my BN
For Sweden all anti tank wepon was developed to stop a soviet special operation, under the cold War. 😄
I was trained on this weapon system in the ADF in OZ in the 80s .Light and versatile gave us infantry a good go to weapon ,top stuff!
Shoulder loaded it on parachute jumps multiple times. Great piece of kit.
Light, are you kidding. I had to carry one for two exercises on Salisbury plains in 1985. My platoon sergeant didn't like me so he always made me the 84mm man. Never got to fire one either.
TRAINED ON THIS IN 1972 LOOKS EVEN BETTER NOW
Trained and used with the previous M/48 during service 1986 in Sweden, and also the Swedish K, Kulsprutepistol. The GRG as we called the M/48 is a formidable weapon. But these guys are probably beginners, we reloaded in a matter of maybe 3 seconds.
Oooh look at those rifling grooves.
Pretty.
There is no reason that a responsible gun owner shouldn’t be allowed to purchase this thru the Sears and Roebuck catalog.
Why not!
It is just don’t have a recoil …
…
💯
Sure....just get a tax stamp
As a "responsible gun owner" that shouldn't be a problem
Otherwise Wells Fargo is going to shit their pants
😂🤣
Si si yo soi responsable deberían venderla en Amazon
Fully trained up on this as a loader and the operator in the eighties in British military hell of a kick but excellent defensive and bunker busting kit also if brave enough anti tank use as I was a big boy, short fit and heavily muscled I allways got used the Karl until I became SF and was given the GPMG the best firearm in the world I used it mostly single shot but it could cut anyone in half lovely jubbly
this looks like fun. and something goes BOOM.
Since the seventies, this bit of kit is still one of the best!
Thanks Sweaden🙏🙏🪬🪬💯💯💎💎💎🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Swedish army adopted the first version of this rifle as early as in 1948. Was originally known as the Carl-Gustaf m/48. It was the end result of a whole slew of recoilless AT-rifles developed during WWII.
If you have a cold the snot squirts out of your nose when you fire this bad boy :) You use both ear plugs and ear protection headset or what you call it when using it at least in training. I remember as a shooter when the plug was loose in the ear protection next to the barrel without me noticing, and the pain and shock I felt was the worst I ever experienced, I rolled around on the ground screaming in panic.
Skott kommer - klart bakåt!
Swedish versionof fuck around and find out 🥰
Helvete vad jag saknar armen, men jag gillar mitt jobb lite för mycket för att gå med igen.
It may not be able to take out modern main battle tanks, but it sure can take out many other types of military vehicles.
this new one is amazing i had it in afg and it truly is top tier.

Now there's a scary thought, you're an enemy tank commander and then there's Marines out there with an M-4.
Excellent ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Informative video...but the repeating stock footage and having an AI read a script is just cheap.
The main round for this rifle is anti personal and bunker busting. It do have
a HEAT round that is not so effective as other once. Their is allso a container
with salt water or jello substance that reduce the back blast in production.
Cool!! I have shot The Carl gustav (trainer) I think it had a 9mm tracer round not 84mm =)
In the seventies had these Carl Gustav as heavy Panzerfaust in the German army. Good stuff! Guess they still use it probaly improved meanwhile .
I got trained on how to use this before deploying to Afghanistan and I'm sure glad we never had to use it. Firing it feels like your whole body getting punched, not only is it painful, there's a limit to how many rounds you can fire a day.
There is no limit on rounds when you really need to fire them. I think a Swedish unit in Congo during the 60s have the record.
@@ghostviggen Those men if still alive are most likely permanently deaf. You really need to experience it for yourself.
@@fratercontenduntocculta8161 I have and I used double ear protection. 😉
I think its set at 12 shots per day unless its been reduced further since my last time of using the weapon in 2003, being within 25 meters of the weapon. This means full sized grenades. We also had 9mm and 20mm variants for practice use. My personall record though was 50 full zised grenades during 1 day when first training with a new platoon, reason being that for some reason i was the only 1 who had prior experience with the weapon and our training officer (a major that did not want to return allreade requsitioned ammo) just winked at me and my loader and said you count the shots yourself :)
@@fratercontenduntocculta8161 They are not dead though. In war you survive, after war you live.
It looks good, but to be fair a quick in an out i would prefer the NLAW. not the javelin, but the NLAW. having used these quite a few times i feel safer with ones. On the plus, this is reloadable which gives an advantage if you want to do trench warfare
Дуже гарна зброя, в Україні, були випадки, коли їх використовували як артилерію, стріляли навісом, щось на кшталт піхотної артилерії.
It does have a fair few international users
Welcome to NATO y'all in Sweden. As at the end of the film "Casablanca", might be a start of a beautiful friendship (as if it wasn't already).
CG fullbumpa!!! Eller…
Me encantan las armas suecas .

Carl Gustav MK3 upgraded is used by IA in many COIN & CT ops effectively... It's actually RPG of democracy against Terrorists

How does this compare to the Javelin missile in USA?
А этот Карл Густав нарезной!
Apparently a British soldier used a CG to sink an Argentinian ship in the Falklands conflict.
All loaders are using the wrong handgrip, this will make reloding more time consuming.

Best time in the Army
Doing range coverage as a medic
Ronnie rotten
Spiv
And myself
At the end of the day the "hard Corp" unit asks us if we want to fire the Carl G
So Ronnie Rotten (x trade infantry anti-tank) steps up
They give him a bunker about 500m out
Spiv is loading for him
And (as usual) he puts the round right through the fucking window
As he passes the Carl G over he tells Spiv "base of that lone tree at 7 o'clock to the target"
The range officer gives Spiv the same target
And he puts the round through the fucking door
So now its my turn and the grunts are pissed at us
Everyone is watching
They give me a 1/4 on exposed APC WAY out at 700m
I can't see the target worth shit and I'm giggling like an idiot
Ronnie rotten is whispering in my ear
I put the sight on the base of the tree and then move the point of impact onto the target...add a touch of elevation (pretty much off the edge of the scope sight) and let fly
Nailed it on the drive wheel, track flies about 10 feet in the air (sure ain't doing that twice)
We walked off the range with a "ya....if you guys ever get in the real deep shit....just call the medics to bail you out....ok?"
Awesome video. But SAAB is not owned by the Swedish Government.
But Wallenberg indirectly owns the government so almost correct :)
I used this weapon in 19 67 it was a horrible weapon to use for the firer and the No 2. Lots of miss fires on it. It was a lot heavier and bigger a bastard to carry 😂

So its an expensive RPG. I'll take a javelin instead please.
LOL. Can't really compare the CG to a Javelin. Javelin is a long range missile with top down attack while the CG is a short-mediium range AT grenade.
You can get one CG with around 50 rounds of the most advanced ammunition for ONE Javelin launcher with ONE missile. Me and my gunner could unload 6 rounds on two targets at 180m in 39 seconds.
@Heavy4th actually a javelin can shoot direct or top attacks. I believe it's range is 60 meters to 150 meters. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@Heavy4th Thank you for your service bud.
@@lafawnduh1543 Yup you are correct, it can be fired in direct attack mode. But that's mostly used against buildings and stationary targets if i remember correctly.
The CG is not meant to be used against tanks theese days. What it does offer though is versatility, artillery support on the squad level. Anti armour rounds that will deal with anything short of a modern main battle tank, Illumination, smoke and what i think is most usefull antipersonell explosive that can either be set to airburst at a set distance or impact, makes a deadly effect on just about all "soft" targets
No it is not names after Karl X Gustav, it was named in honor of the then 2 year old prince Carl XVI Gustaf now King of Sweden.
Any "Facts" video on this weapon that don't get this right simply don't have their facts straight.
So if you get that wrong what else is wrong, you simply can't be trusted if you don't even know where the naming came from.
If you're going to be correcting someone on the internet, then you'll first have to double check your own"facts", otherwise you will look like a huge idiot. Well done 👏
Actual facts:
Carl Gustaf is named after Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori, the (now closed) weapons factory where the Carl G was initially manufactured.
The factory was named after the city Carl Gustafs Stad (part of modern-day Eskilstuna) which in turn got it's name in 1659 when it was granted city status by none other than king Karl X Gustav.

Mmm, it's cheap, it is nowhere near as effective as a Javelin system, nowhere near, but it is a whole lot cheaper per round, and let's face it the infantry are cheap and easy to replace, so why not give him a system that most western armies stopped using in the nineteen eighties. After all using out of date weapons doesn't seem to bother the Russians does it?
The fuck are you talking about? It's still widely used by almost all western countries. A weapon doesn't go out of date until it stops working against contemporary threats. Is the M2 machine gun out of date? A hundred year old gun still in action because it works.
