This is so amazing! It’s really inspiring to see what gifted developers, such as the one who made this port, can do against a tall order of constraints. I nominate this dev/dev team into the C64 game dev hall of fame!
Friggin awesome.Only thing missing is Jr catching dad and Mario falls.Jr runs off with dad and Mario chases them. Then DK kicks Mario in the ass sending him flying
absolutely brilliant conversion. thumbs up!!! by the way: at summer ces 1983 coleco showed donkey kong on their adam-computer, not on colecovision. at his point they only owned the videogame-rights. so they went into trouble with nintendo. the computergame-rights (disk and cartridge only) for donkey kong (and donkey kong jr.) were given to atari. but i don't really know und cannot actually explain why d.k. jr. wasn't released for other computer-systems under their atarisoft-label. imho it was the fault of jack tramiel and his new "no-more-games-company-leadership-style". but this is speculation only.
Very impressive. It also plays really nice. Was really happy to try it out on my C64 Forever and was reminded of playing this in the arcades back in the day. Wish other fan remakes would come out that look and feel like the coin up versions. If someone could make a really good version of Mappy that would be unbelievably cool since there is a scarce number of Mappy ports. Donkey Kong 3 also. I think it only made it to being a NES port.
I have an arcade dual stick/trackball setup and play emulated roms I legally own. Donkey Kong Jr is tough to get a hold of. I have a Famicom Mini rather than an NES Mini so I have Donkey Kong but not Jr. This is better. This looks as good if not better than the arcade version. I would like to see Donkey Kong 3 happen. I like the PD version of Donkey Kong as well but this has a much better color palette.
I got hold of a DK Jr port for the C64 in 1987. I don't remember who created it (this was 30+ years ago, after all). The intro had Junior climbing up and down a pair of vines, then asked for a password. I assumed it wasn't intended for public release. I never did get the password, so I have no idea what the game itself was like. Judging from the intro graphics, it looked somewhat sub-par but probably worth playing.

It's my favorite port of Donkey Kong Jr, by far.
The stages look a lot more detailed than the arcade. Nice port!
Agree
I like sound better
This video certainly doesn't reflect that. It's dark and it's missing a lot of pixels.
Wow, arcade quality graphics and sound.
My favorite game in the Donkey Kong lexicon....it's about time C64 !!!
It's a joy to see someone that can actually play the game. Lovely!
mrsid6581 this game is not nearly as hard as Donkey Kong, yet so many people are so bad at it....
This is amazing. Probably 2nd right behind the NES version. What they were able to pull of with the 16 color palette is amazing.
The ColecoVision version was nothing to sneeze at either!
@@stickyfoxHad that one as a kid, enjoyed
The music on this! *It makes me feel like I’m in Heaven.*
Now all I want is a C64 clone of Battle City :)
This is an awesome clone/port BTW
Friggin awesome.Only thing missing is Jr catching dad and Mario falls.Jr runs off with dad and Mario chases them. Then DK kicks Mario in the ass sending him flying
No, there are also missing fruits.
This is just the Atari 7800/NES port with enhanced graphics.
So, everybody's just going to forgive the missing fruits from the short vines at the top of the first 2 screens?
Yes, they are, because this is still _easily_ the best home conversation of DK Junior out there.
this game brings back a lot of memories.
Not bad Daniel. Level 4 - round 1 , score:84,900. That last death was careless and easily avoidable

Me when I act like fake peppino: 3:13
Hint: Look at Donkey Kong Junior's face
If i will ever buy a C64 classic mini, then i will definitely install this homebrew port among those official donkeykong games on it😁
Wow, the graphics were really good!
the ocean version?
Now, I want a donkey kong country. That would cool on the c64

were can I buy a copy?
Eli Huerta it’s available free on the C64 scene database
@@dkovacs I can't just download on to my c64 than through usb right?
Eli Huerta you can, you need to have some kind of sd card solution or an easy flash
Mrsid, I'm up to 250,650 - level 7. Et vous?
How come when I play this on my usa commodore the high score is cut off? Was this first made for pal c64s?
Is this from the real hardware?
How does one get this game, and will it be available for play for the C64 on a floppy disk?
You can download it from csdb.dk/release/?id=134342&rss
This blows Colecovision version away.

Certainly shows that the c64 could have rivaled the NES port of DK
wow that is nice!

It was a hoax, and the game size was padded out to make the whole thing believable
You either have it on easy or the game is just a lot easier than the arcade version. The Keys are very easy.
thomascampr it's on Easy
Is this on cartridge or disk?
No, it's just a digital download, but you can transfer it over to a disk using special equipment. It's not a disk since it's a FREEWARE HOMEBREW GAME.
アーケードとファミコンの中間的な出来。
Why is the video so bad? The C64 has a color resolution of 160x200 and there are MANY missing pixels from the screen! How do you screw this up?
not bad
