Kerrgin Byrne and Lorraine Heath write amazing gritty/darker historicals! Elizabeth Hoyt also writes great darker historicals IMO, and some of Grace Callaway's books also deal with darker themes.
I started reading Historical Romances because of you and your channel and also the historical hellions bookclub and I always get obsessed when I pick one up and half of the month is over before I realise I've gone way off my TBR. I've been searching for Highlander Romances like the Bride and some mediaeval romances as well. Great recommendations, Lorraine Heath's series has been bumped up on my TBR.
OMGosh! i just found your channel and i'm so glad i did. I love historical romances and haven't read them in a while. I now have a lovely list to pass to family members and friends when they ask what i want for Christmas. ; D. One of my all time favorite dark romance is The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen E. Woodwiss. Captain Brandon Birmingham was my very first book boyfriend. I love everything Ms. Woodwiss has written. Another classic fave is Rosemary Rogers. She took dark romance to a whole other level. Sweet Savage Love is one of my favorites from her. Thanks for taking me down memory lane and you've found a new subscriber.
One of the darkest historicals I've read is The Silver Devil by Teresa Denys. (It's a bodice ripper so anyone going into it should first find the meaning of the term if you don't know it already. Lot's of TWs for that one). It's doesn't strictly follow the path which generally all historicals do, the topics may be controversial, it takes place in 16th century Italy but it has my kind of dark romance. And the gothic and initially cindrella-like vibes this book gives are SPOT ON and SO GOOD! But again this book is not for everyone.
My all time favorite. I read many times. The writing is so good and the main character is full of contrasts , definitely not political correct. Unfortunately the author passed away early and only wrote two books.
Love love the Silver Devil. The author’s only two books are my favorites. Re-read so many times already. They are gripping and so intense which are rare found in all the other romance books.
I am a fan of dark historical romance! Have you read Shadowheart by Laura Kinsale, The Villain by Victoria Vale, Dark Side of the Sun by Addison Cane, The Untouchable Earl by Amy Sandals or The Lover by Robin Schone? Oh, and I love the Scoundrel series and the Sins for all Seasons series by Heath!
I absolutely adore historical romance. You might like Christina Dodd’s books. I read them back in the early 2000’s. The lost princess series is what got me into historical.
Ok, just got Between the Devil and Desire. It sounds Dreaming of You -ish and that’s one of my very, very favourite books of all time. Lorraine Heath can write such emotional books can’t she? Oh yes. Shanna. You nailed it. I could not stand her but he was amazing. And I’m about to reread The Highwayman. All the recent talk about it makes me want to go back and revisit it. I loved it when I first read it. I have a lot of historicals to catch up on.
Ah Shanna. First read it as a teen, and even then I knew she was a piece of work. I re read it in college because I think I thought I had overdramatized how crazy that plot was. I was so wrong - I had forgotten half the insanity. I’m impressed you were able to summarize it as quickly as you did. Christine Monson’s book Stormfire is VERY dark, disturbing and traumatic.
Love dangle earrings...but haven't been able to wear them for years. Allergy to sterling silver....then 18K gold... Was told it was probably nickel traces. Really expensive to experiment titanium, platinum.
I need to read all of these! I loved In Bed with the Devil but haven’t continued the series yet. Also, How to Love A Duke in Ten Days by Kerrigan Byrne is the one that starts with the three friends killing someone… it’s so good. Piers is another cinnamon role/alpha hero and there is a lot of intrigue in that book with the blackmail mystery plot. I need to continue that series as well. I’ve been so into historicals lately, I can’t get enough!
Read Sins for all season a very good series. The dirty secret of the aristocracy and wealth in England. Get ready because is very very dark poignant and crying 😢
Ok! Bought 2 of the silver dagger earrings and mini hoops since I also have 3 bottom piercings! I thought it look all so cute together. But yes read almost all of these I’m working through St. James now. Wish there were more dark historicals! I reread highwayman recently and cried in the first 10 pages. Lol
hi! i love your videos so much. i started reading Danielle Lori’s works after i found this channel and its recs and im obssesed ever since. love your channel so much! ❤️ P.S could you please PLEASE do a video on some CEO & Secretary trope? it’d be great.
Heyy I love your recomendations and I was wondering if you could give me or make a video where the hero seduce or persue the heroine kinda like secrets of a summer nigth by lisa kleypas because i've been looking everywhere and I cant find any recommendations😩
They didn't call them the Dark Ages for a reason. Dark romances, are a good way to see the shady side of medieval times, which were rough, for everybody. Even royalty had it rough because everyone wanted to kill them or be king or something, just like the knights. I love medieval romances for their nitty gritty, things are just too light washed these days and that's why I love Dark billionaire and Mafia verses and "Old school romance", because they all steamed from similar backgrounds.
Historical PLUS Dark romance!!?? Everything I never knew I needed!! Thank you for the recommendations; can’t wait to check them out💃🏾
🥰

Joanna Boure her Spymasters series. 100% recommend. "The Spymaster's Lady" and "The Black Hawk" my favorites! So good. Dark historical.

Ooh I’ve heard a lot about that one!
My all time favorite. I read many times. The writing is so good and the main character is full of contrasts , definitely not political correct. Unfortunately the author passed away early and only wrote two books.
Where could I find this book?? I’ve looked on Amazon and eBay also books a million and cannot find it!! 😕
Love love the Silver Devil. The author’s only two books are my favorites. Re-read so many times already. They are gripping and so intense which are rare found in all the other romance books.
I really need to dive into Kerrigan Byrne! I'm in such a historical mood I can't wait for the HRR!

I haven’t read any of those! I’ll look them up!
@@PeaceLoveBooksxo I call them Gritieval Submance. (gritty medieval submission romance). Lol
Guardian Angel by Julie Garwood! Pirates, revenge, strong female, and romance… perfect Julie Garwood 💗💗
That’s one I really want to get to!!
Anything by Julie Garwood is amazing!
I absolutely adore historical romance. You might like Christina Dodd’s books. I read them back in the early 2000’s. The lost princess series is what got me into historical.
YESSSS Been waiting for this!!!
I've read load of these based off your previous videos! I love dark historicals...off to get the scoundrels of st James...

I’m currently reading Flowers from the Storm and am having a hard time reading cause of the writing style but I love the plot and story so far.
You definitely need to get used to the writing style!
I too had a hard time, so you are not alone.
Loved this book. Found it with the effort. Reread as well.

I actually just bought Stormfire! I’m excited to read it!
@@PeaceLoveBooksxo have not read Shanna but Stormfire was insane :D I was not able to finish it! Too much for me
Shanna was the first romance book by Kathleen Woodiwiss in 1975 in those days were called Romance. Where that historical came?
Most of Kathleen E W. Books are dark themed. She sure knew how to write drama romance.
Love dangle earrings...but haven't been able to wear them for years. Allergy to sterling silver....then 18K gold... Was told it was probably nickel traces. Really expensive to experiment titanium, platinum.
Kerrigan byrnes books are my everything i wish she wrote 1000 more dark historicals

I LOVE Lorraine Heath. I am almost done with her backlist and loving it
I’m excited I still have so much more to read from her!
Sea of Ruin has intimidated me for so long- and I *love* dark romance- I’m just so nervous to pick it up for some reason🥴
Ok! Bought 2 of the silver dagger earrings and mini hoops since I also have 3 bottom piercings! I thought it look all so cute together.
