Actually, in the latest update April 2024, Fortnite said they temporarily removed split screen play
EDIT: They added it back

If some of you guys cant play split screen, i had the same problem but fixed it now. Try logging in on your second account and create a new account first, then log in on your first controller and it should work.

Yes u need 2 PS accounts in the same Playstaion. When my nephew comes over he just signs into my PS5 with his account so we both can play spilt screen.
