Really happy Suda brought up Shadows, that game went through a ton of revisions. Still hope he can make a sequel to it though like Travis Strikes Again seemed to tease.
Suda is right up there with the best in the industry. He’s got so much heart and no matter how bad the games may seem to others I see them as a peak form of expression in the medium. They’re not perfect by any means but I enjoy that he doesn’t conform to what’s feels “standard” in the industry.
Before indie games were as quirky as they were Suda 51 was one of the only video game creators to add such surrealistic and experimental edge to his games
It may have broken Suda's heart to see the original concept get changed into something else entirely, but it despite that, a lot of people liked it. Sadly, that didn't really translate into robust sales...
"I guess you could say its kinda like taking a shit on the toilet. I just sat there and got everything out the way i wanted and it felt great". Yes one could say that but i'll just thank him for saying it, its great advice.
Wait wait wait wait wait wait WAIT! Where did he talk about Killer is Dead? Someone time stamp because I listened through and didn’t remember hearing him mention my favorite suda 51 game.
Philo Nerd nah. He had his chance. This is some fishy ass shit right here. I just lost some respect for him. You tell your whole story and leave out the best game? You can’t avoid your own work by not talking about it. It’s out there now.
@@DJMizzy he didn't actually direct Killer Is Dead, that was Hideyuki Shin who also directed Let It Die. He also left out NMH2 and Travis Strikes Again which I hoped to hear some more about. But what I think happened was he wanted/had to go over the biggest points in his career and condense it all and, well... KID really didn't do well. I love that game though.
Antonio Banderas it didn’t do well? I really thought it did. Better than lollipop chainsaw did if I recall correctly. So he didn’t direct KiD? It’s a grasshopper produced game. It has suda 51 written all over it.
@@DJMizzy It's actually the other way around. Lollipop Chainsaw is the most successful Grasshopper game ever behind Let It Die (1 mil sales and 4 mil downloads respectively). Suda wrote for KID but didn't actually direct it. He didn't really direct anything from Grasshopper after NMH1 until Travis Strikes Again, his first directorial role in like a decade. He was involved with all the games since NMH1 on some level but was more busy managing the company than anything (since he is Grasshopper's CEO). The reason why people think games like KiD and LC are Suda's was because his name was all over the marketing tbh.
The video is great, but it's so hard to believe what the translator is sayingbis actually what Suda said. Suda delivers everything in such a monotone, that when he says stuff like: "it was just like taking a shit at the toilet, I just set there, got everything out the way I wanted, and it felt great" you just don't believe he says that with a straight face
@@Nov-5062 Yes. And why did GameSpot use an old footage of the game and not the latest one? Something tells me the site is not a fan of killer7 and gave more space for other Grasshopper games.

His wife is the real mvp
Yeah instead of asking "why don't you make more money", she asks "why don't you do something you're passionate about?". Mvp indeed.
@@guyguino5770real I wish I had a wife
What an incredible developer. Imagine if he DID go to Atlus though… SUDA 51 SMT
“If I ever happen to work with EA on another game, I’d really appreciate if they would just OK the 1st version of the script next time.” 13:42
You know EA is a fucked up company when Suda talks about them.
One of his greatest works... and compares it to taking a shit. Bless this man
Well, to be fair, that is a main component of the game lol
I found the analogy more in tune with the expression "getting shit done" personally
Before you start your desperate struggling, you should drop a nice save. :D
Suda is one of - if not THE - my favourite game directors! Killer 7 opened my mind for a world of new possibilities. どうもありがとう
!
I'm so happy a video like this on Suda exists; I always want to learn more about this guy.
Audio Logs is such a cool program. Kudos to Lucy James for this brilliant idea.
I love this guy, his vision and projects, and I didn't even knew he work with James Gunn, that's crazy.
Mrs Suda51 is a true companion. So loyal, supportive and caring for her husband. He's lucky to have her.
Such a genuine guy, loved his works since Killer 7 and i hope his crazy ideas keep getting support.
This new series is the only reason I stay subscribed to GameSpot
Same here

His wife is so awesome.
I'm very impressed he saw Spaceballs, didn't think it would have an audience in Japan.
Imagine if suda 51 was hired by altus and worked of the SMT series
I'm glad he was hired by Human, though. I'm pretty sure the wrestling moves on most of his games where inspired by his first game too.
some SMT series with silvercase / 25th art style
that would be insanely good
damn that will be rock
I was on a Suda51 tier list and apparently he did collab with Atlus to make a game called Contact.
@@JohnPerry27 he didn't make Contact, Akari Ueda did
It would be cool if Suda made a psychological sci-fi game or a fantasy game. This man is a legend!
Absolutely.
He seems like such a chill dude. Would love to meet him.

Killer7 Is one of my favorite games.
Blew me away back in the day.
Before indie games were as quirky as they were Suda 51 was one of the only video game creators to add such surrealistic and experimental edge to his games
It's great Suda worked with Yu Suzuki. Two great developers.
I never knew my one of my favorite game developers was named after one of my favorite shoegaze songs.
Armani Garcia That’s the first time I heard that too. Ride rocks
really wish he'd return to the kill the past series, silver case is easily his best game.
I really need NMH 1 and 2 on my switch! Please Suda, make it happen!
Looks like someone's wish came true!
The 3rd game is awesome. Is just the 1st game with steroids and Ureal Engine.
Enjoying a lot so far.
I loved Shadows of the Damned! People need to go play it!

most underrated video game developer ever, TSA and NMH3 are phenomenal.
This was fantastic, would love to see Hidetaka Miyazaki do one of these, too. Although apparently he's notoriously shy so that might not happen.

This was a really great career highlight video. I hope we get remasters for no more heroes 1 & 2 and ofcourse 3.
The more Suda I can see on a regular basis the better
I love every games from Suda51
Can we just get another masterpiece like Killer 7? They killed it with that game
No More Heroes was my first M rated game I ever played and owned. This is a cool video series, thanks GameStop and Suda51 ♡
Suda is my favorite Dev.
I liked the metaphor for the creative process during No More Heroes.
I love Suda!
If only i could find a room full of people who listen to how soon is now
THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS, @GameSpot
man he's so cool, his games are really something unique too
pretty sad that he didnt mentioned games like moonlight syndrome or flower sun and rain
My favorite game dev/ designer of all time.
So can we all just say all of his games are in the same universe and that Fire Pro story somehow impacted Travis and whatnot.
Really wish people stopped dubbing interviews, reading exists after all 😩
He, Yoko Taro, Hideo Kojima, Yu Suzuki, Sigeru Miyamato, Hironobu Saguchi and Tetsuya Takahashi the bests of the best
I bet Atlus is angry that they don't have him now.
HE'S A SMITHS FAN!!!!!!!
Awesome Suda51 Video.
My favourite game developer.
I love suda
My hero!
I'm really sad this interview skipped Flower, Sun, and Rain.
love this fucking guy
When Suda does finger guns, you must do finger guns back at him!
so basically suda51 made a shitpost into a game no wonder yahtzee loves him so much
Love Suda51
Imagine if Suda actually got the job at Atlus. SMT would be way more fucked up
Imagine a Game from Suda51 and Yoko Taro with Platinum gameplay. It may be the best game ever... or the most fucke up one ever
EA is hell, do not ever touch Suda51, just like others like Abe (Lorne Lanning) and American McGee
In an alternate universe, Suda made it through that ATLUS interview and he ended up designing and directing SMT and Persona games.
Imagine if Suda51 went to Atlus and directed one of the SMT games...
Hemang Chauhan someone posted the exact same comment an hour before you...
legend
Coolest origin story in the history of games.
Remaster Lollipop Chainsaw please
Hey Suda, give us No More Heroes 3!!
Its already being made. He wabts to announce it at e3. He has an announcement at momocon also.
GOAT
1:25 did you just throw "Soon Enough" by Nmesh? Interesting choice lmao. I love the fact that this song is a direct sample from Charmed.
Goat suda
I really want a Metal Gear Solid made by SUDA51 in case Kojima doesnt want to work with the IP anymore.
He is the shinji mikami and hideaki kamia combine
10:58 So this confirm that the beam katana is indeed a reference to star wars and not to that japanee show
He likes Ride fuck yeah of course he does
A subbed version of this would be much appreciated!
Can Suda51 do a sequel to lollipop chainsaw?
