- Coffee and tea are among life’s simple pleasures! So it’s good to know that both are perfectly fine for keto diets as long as you’re careful about what you add to them. If you’re trying to lose weight, stay away from fatty coffee and tea with butter or MCT oil. Drink these black and unsweetened, or use a non-sugar sweetener with a small amount of cream, half & half, unsweetened nut milk, or even regular milk. (Regular milk is okay if you only use a little bit.)
Obviously, you’ll want to avoid the pastries and sweets, and here’s a tip that surprises people: if you order iced coffee, make sure it’s unsweetened! A popular coffee chain in the US pre-sweetens their iced coffee with sugar, so be certain that you order it unsweetened and add your non-sugar sweetener of choice.

I’ve lost 40 pounds on Keto and watching your videos. During my weightloss phase I did find that a teaspoon of MCT oil along with cream in my coffee did wonders for my satiety especially in the afternoon.
I just read your book to remind myself how simply your program is. Getting back to basics is simple, but not easy.
I don't even drink coffee, I just like hearing you talk about keto & health. 👍
☕️ 👌
I do not drink coffee either, but I find listening to Dr. Westman very soothing. I need to work on my diet. I have a weakness for cookies and especially ice cream. I do not have a weight problem or visceral fat accoring to a recent CAT scan, but there could be fat accumulating in my liver and pancreas, so I am trying to stick to a lower-carb diet.
@@alexr6114 Westman's "Ending Your Carb Confusion" cookbook is pretty good and affordable, and I get the best keto results following his advice. The sugar part is tough to deal with , and yeah, cookies. Love them.

I gave cut back on my coffee with the butter and oils. Want to watch it a little during the holidays. Getting my fat in other ways at the moment
Happy Thanksgiving Dr. Westman! Thank you for all the information and encouragement you provide all year long. Down 70 lbs over the last 15 months.
great job
Yes! Things are changing. Soon there will be keto options even at fast food/drive through businesses. . .if they’re smart. Thank you Doctor.
Thank you, Dr Westman.
Great video Dr. Westman. Happy Thanksgiving
Thanks for the video doc
I enjoy 2-3 10 oz. cups a day with heavy cream, just checked the label, 0 carbs per tablespoon. I never eat/drink out, that way I know exactly what is in my food and drink.
If you want to be certain about what goes in your coffee, either make your coffee at home or bring with you the preferred healthy additive sweeteners.
I love coffee but have found that my stomach just can’t tolerate it on a regular basis (Irritable bowel history).
Now I only consume coffee periodically but when I do it’s black 😊
BTW:
Adequate sleep 😴 = less of a need for coffee
Same with me. Also it seems when I drink coffee my pain in my joints are worst.
There should never be a "need", it is for the "drug" affects. As humans we like coffee like we like sex. Not required for life / survival but feeds the brain : )
Since I drink decaf, I'm not looking for a caffeine buzz...I just love the taste of coffee!!😊
@@pittsburgh-gal Totally can relate to that. Not sure if decaf would be more tolerable 🤔
@@pittsburgh-gal taste and smell also create the "buzz". Just the smell of cooking something great can trigger a release of dopamine : ) Buzzzzzzzzz
Extra black, extra strong double shot expresso - Only Colombian coffee please, fresh roasted, fresh ground, fresh brewed : )
Thank you, Dr. Westman and Happy Thanksgiving!
Some filtered / lactose free milks are are a good option with only around 6 g of carbohydrates per cup instead of 12. That’s 50% the carbs of regular milk!
Fair Life milk here in the States or other lactose free milks elsewhere (check the label though!).
We all have a Dunkin in our area. I've grown to really like it, but I order very specifically. For me, its a large (hot or ice) with Coconut Milk and Stevia. I like to go inside and watch :) They are expensive so I am making the trips less and less. I make it at home the exact same way :) Luckily my daughter in law worked there for a couple weeks and she let me look at the coconut milk, zero carb and sugar! Yay
I order McDonald’s large iced coffee black, no sugar or cream. I get two little creams on the side. Perfection!
Those little creamers are loaded with sugar.
@@marianne1959 Always be aware of the AMOUNT of sugar or carbs. Some of these have more sugar than others. If there is 1 gram of sugar in one serving, just watch the amount of servings that you have. I transition my patients from "avoiding carbs" to "watch the amount of carbs" as they progress. There is really no forbidden food or drink, and there is no keto food. Keto is a metabolism.
Dr. Westman, I’ve learned useful info from your videos. I wonder what you think of Skyr, Icelandic yogurt, which is lactose-free, low-carb, and high in protein. Is it okay to eat a 150g serving of this everyday while keeping daily total carbs under 20-30 grams?
I stopped coffee shopping years ago. The only cream they use is that wizz bang spray crap in a can. Australia.
I use organic Stevia or monk fruit with erythrotol in my coffees. Does this break my fast? I do OMAD.
depends how much, as above
Maltodextrin is in lots of coffee syrups and other things. Doesn’t it raise glucose more than sugar?
Starbucks has hwc.....I ask for it on the side.
❤
I'd really appreciate a video on transitioning to keto and keto and breastfeeding.
How about heavy whipping cream?
recently I had major heart surgery, a mitral valve repair, a tricuspid valve repair, left appendage snipped?, Cardiac ablation, and a triple bypass. Would a ketogenic diet be good for my health. I am 74 years of age. I was 78 kg before and after after surgery, but now I am 85 kg, and I don't want my weight to get out of control. Has anyone on here any experience like my case? Cheers.
Yes, A Keto diet is a health diet, it’s simply eating real food, without the carbs and sugar. You may want to look into Dr. Westman’s course called “Keto Made Simple Masterclass” enrolment opens in January. You can join the wait list and Learn more here 👇

@@AdaptYourLife Thanks for the reply and the advice.
What do you do if you have kidney issues but cannot tolerate any carbs?
Hi Miss Kitty, my Keto program I teach is absolutely fine, the small amount of carbs can be limited even further to suite your requirements
@@AdaptYourLife Thank you.
What about the Nut Pods (creamers)? Will they break a fast?
depends how much, as above
What about mixing in an egg in your coffee?
❤️
