    I think it's worth noting that God didn't reject Saul just because he didn't kill Agag. Saul may have started out humble, but after he started winning wars, he developed a pretty big ego problem. He wanted to always to be the center of praise by the Israelites, as evidenced by when he blatantly stole credit for a victory won by his own son, and when he became obsessively jealous of David.

    Why did neither Saul or his court know who David was when he came to the battlefield and volunteered to fight Goliath? Hadn't David already a close relationship with the throne and Saul personally?

      They weren’t asking for his name. They were asking for his IDENTITY. All they knew about him was that he was the court musician. But suddenly he was fighting THE Goliath, and winning. So who was he really? There was obviously more to him than harp player.
      Saul already knew that he had lost God favor. And this is probably when he first started suspecting that David was the new favorite.

    Guys I don't know where you're sourcing your info from but in the Biblical narrative the tribes were not divided into Judah (2 tribes) & Israel (10 tribes) in the time of Samuel. That divide didn't happen until after the death of Solomon. Before the reign of King Saul the Tribes of Israel were a loose confederation who came together under a series of Judges when they needed to face an external threat. They were not divided into 2 separate kingdoms during the time when Samuel was the Judge

      David was king of Judah only for 7yrs and then the rest of Israel for 33yrs.
      1 Kings 2:11 and 2 Samuel 5:5 is her source.
      You are referring to the time after Solomon yes, but there was an unofficial division during Davids reign too as we've shown.

    • @jonathanrotem251
      @jonathanrotem251 3 роки тому +17

      The Philistines were a Greek people living in the costal region. There is no connection between them and today's Palestinians (Arabs). The Romans used the name of the (by then) extinct people, the Philistines, to rename the Province of Judah "Palestina". This name became a geographical term in European languages for the land, and when the British took the holy land after WWI they named it "Palestine". this is where the local Arabs get their name from

      The Romans changed the name of Judea (in Hebrew: Land of the Jews) to "Syria-Palaestina" only in the 2nd century, to spite the rebellious native Jews who fought against the Roman invaders... Imagine how humiliating it was for the natives to be called after their bitter enemies who were already crashed and disappeared from the face of the earth few centuries earlier... The Arabs you know today as "Palestinians" started referring to themselves as Palestinians only in the 1960's. Before 1948 they despised the term "Palestinians" because the Zionist Jews didn't mind using it temporarily during the British rule over that land. But basically, "Palestine" is just a foreign European colonial name that was imposed on the native Jews for far too long.

      @MehWhatever99 Рік тому

      If he was 30, he would have been married with children already. It would have been very unusual for any man of that age to be unmarried.
      And there is definitely the impression that he is not just younger, but also smaller than his brothers. When Samual first meets David he is decidedly unimpressed. He even double checks with God that this is really who he means to anoint. And when he shows up on the battle field, his brothers tell him to go home. He was probably not 12. But late teens, not much more than 20 certainly.

      David was about 17 when he killed Goliath. He was on the run from Saul for at least 13 years before he became king.
      It was during the reign of Rehoboam(Solomon's son) that the kingdom of Israel was devided into.
      Ten of the tribes became the Northern kingdom called Israel and the tribes of Judah and Benjamin became The southern kingdom of Judah.
