I thoroughly enjoy your videos. The way you work as a family is lovely to watch. There's a certain calmness about the way you handle whatever problem confronts you and resolve them as a unit. I like how you showcase the places you visit and give an honest assessment. You always seem upbeat and that includes the intro music. Last but not least, Linh and Emma have smiles that could light up a city. Sorry about the fish that got away.. with all your line :)
You guys are the best. I love you guys. I’ve been watching you guys forever and never get tired of it. You’re a wonderful wife and your daughter and you you fix any damn thing you got back you could fix a robot. I’m telling you guys the best you make my you make my life happy I’m a disabled Vietnam, veteran two of duty and, I guess it’s all there garbling I’m talking I can’t anyway I wish you the best. Thank you.
Thank you for your service, the young of today have no idea, but Putin is pushing as is China. So they also may have to stand up. I was in Falklands 82, nothing like you SIR.
I have heard wonderful things about Costa Rica, but that definitely didn't look Cruiser-friendly. I have noticed that when Delos and a bunch were going in the opposite direction they didn't spend a lot of time there either. That could have been because there were hurricanes that year all over that area at that time.
Captain Teal, that would have been some super sushi, to bad he was in a light tackle and bid you good bye. I enjoy every moment, live goes by rapidly. God Bless, Jerry 🐻
It's too bad that you didn't have the wind you needed for the long leg, but I guess it's good to get your engines a little exercise from time to time too. Great episode as always, family. 🙂
It happens looked like a 150 lb Marlin not good eater so no worries! Try to get some wahoo you guys deserve the best. As always be safe see ya next week
Having traveled extensively through out Costa Rica for over a decade I find it quite amazing. Sorry to see you didn't enjoy your time. I noticed you bring up the price of goods in CR in your last two videos. I would agree. The price of goods in Mexico, Nicaragua, Belize & Guatemala are so much cheaper. Wait until you get to the Caribbean. Oh snap! You will be shocked.....
Captain was that a Marlin that took your rigging? Did you hope to land a Marlin on the light tackle it appeared you were using... 🤣🤣Good times and great stories... ENJOY!!! Thank you for sharing your happy family with the world.
Guys, I fish a lot, that fishing reel you have is way too light for trolling 1,make sure your drag is set correctly 2 and 3 get atleast a rod rated at 100 lbs. If you are going to troll those waters.
Emma ??? "We "sstuffed" my Mom into the starboard engine compartment". ??? It sounded kind of suspicious and my wife stepped into the room and asked what you ment by that statement. I explained everything and your "Good to Go". But it was funny when you think about someone passing by the door and hearing it for the first time. You have "Great Parents" and your taller then your Mom. That's why you wern't stuffed into the engine compartment. LOL😄 The SwordFish ate well too. God Bless
If I can ever afford a silent-yacht - that would be the perfect passage day - sunny and calm! With a kite sail for longer trips. Beautiful there. Better luck on the fish on next passage. Donate for a Dream
love Sloths ,, in fact a Sloth was mugged just yesterday by 2 turtles and the police came to question the Sloth and they asked , can you describe the 2 turtles who mugged you , any marks on them you can remember ,, the Sloth told the police , not really , it all happened so fast !
The center and east coast of Costa Rica is a completely different experience. It's called an ECO Travel experience and it is. We avoid the west coast like the plague.
Put pressure on spool wind on tight. Put 65 lb braide on there it has dia. Of 16lb test then you can horse them in or have dingy ready to be a chase boat. JT looks like you have a lever drag push button in and have more drag to go. JT. HOOKED N ROLLING OFFSHORE 🇺🇸🐟🐠
Following for a while. We’re monohull sailors looking at a future cat. Wondering if you have ever used the dual anchor + winch set up and whether it’s worth the investment?
Seems you guys are not the first of many cruisers unimpressed with Costa Rica. You would think they would get it. But.....hey. See you next time. ✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🏝️ 👙 🌞 ✨
My guess is that they are making a fortune off of the rich drunk fishermen/women who come there so they aren't too worried about impressing anyone else.
Teal , you might want to try a hand line, 15 or 20 fa. Long fa. 300 Lb. Tuna cord with 3 fa. 200 LB. Mono leader. Put a snubber at the boat end. Hand line works much better on a sailboat, don’t have to stop to fight the fish. Much less Kasos. In that area to the canal your going to get striped often with a rod
I've always wondered if it was illegal to use a small net running behind your boat to catch fish? BTW, Teal. You should let your hair grow out more. At least you still have yours. I lost mine in my early 30's.
When you have fishing lines wrapped around your propellors, now you know where they are coming from. Fisherman, charter boats, trolling with bait attracting sail fish, marlin that can't be landed and then released but condemned to one certain death trailing hundred of feet off nylon or braided line, BECAUSE the fishermen used light tackle not capable of landing and releasing the catch.
At least partly because many of the places in that direction are not pet friendly and it's too expensive if not impossible to bring their dog in with them.
@@genewaddlerandomstuff2122 That's not all places and you can keep your pet aboard the boat in some of those countries. Most places are pet friendly from what I've gathered. The only thing is that you have to pay.
@@genewaddlerandomstuff2122 I have two three year old cats. I guess I'm not going to bring them if that's the case. That's a big bummer. I'll have to find a loving home for them.
A few sailors now have commented that Costa Rica is not that great. It definitely wouldn't be on my itinerary. They seem to only want tourists with lots of vacation money, to fly in and stay at their resorts and do diving and sport fishing charters. Sailors seem to be viewed as poor country cousins, ruining the view.
Last time I was at Manual Antonio l took a hike south to a nice uncrowded beach. I had to cross a river using a local in a small boat. On the way back I said I would just swim/walk across, but when I started I stepped on something sharp and cut my foot badly. I think the 'boat guy' put glass or sharp rocks there to discourage non-compliance. 😞 Manual Antonio is very touristy and visitors should be careful walking around at night. Because Costa allowed mass immigration from South America many years ago...the drug trade got a greater foothold there and because of that, the murder rate is about 3-4 time greater in the last 4 years. Their police force wasn't prepared for it and are struggling. Most of the problems are in Limon ,but...buyer beware!
Yes, in order to transit the Panama Canal, you must submit a completed application with all of your vessel information and whatever documentation they ask of you. They will then notify you via email if you are doing the paperwork yourself or your agent if you choose to go that route. An agent is your advocate and helps facilitate things for a smooth transit as well as assist you if anything pops up for a pretty small fee.
Thanks for the episode.
You are very welcome!

In the complexity of my life and business day this is a real breath of fresh air - thx
That is exactly what we are going for, thanks!
Good tip about raising a sail in no-wind to make your boat visible. Thank you.

setting overdrive on props is my guess. Gives 1-2 knots more speed at same rpm. They pay for themselves with fuel savings.
You are correct, I spoke with them later that morning and that was exactly what they were doing.
Boy I hate it when the show end!
"Empty our bank account and fill our backpack." Hey, easy come, easy go. 😁

HI SV Basic, cant you get a tender in this city?
Big fishing fleet does not mean lots of fish necessarily . It can also mean fished out .
Woohoo!❤
To bad, that was a beautiful fish; but let's go for a smaller fish lol.

What are your plans once you reach the canal? Are you going to the Caribbean to sail that area once you reach the canal?
Holy guacamole that was a big fish too bad it got away. Better luck next time😅
That fish was to big to keep, just wish that he didn't take all the tackle with him.
Stripped reel is a Rod Buster moment! Bustin Rods and not landing Hogs,,, better luck next time Teal!

Well Teal; you can actually tell folks about the one that got away because you actually have video proof!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How far to the canal?🙂🙂
Bare feet and anchor chain are a dangerous combination. 😮
Can you tell us all the places you all have sailed to. I’ve been watching a while but I wonder what your journey had been.
If you like boat projects and wholesome family life, this is the best. Start with episode 1 and binge watch. You will love it

You had a big sailfish or marlin not good eating anyway.
