  • We recently took a look at Yamaha's 2023 Raptor 700 and YFZ450 lineup, so I decided to show you my Raptor build. Also included a build cost breakdown for those interested in doing something similar and answered a few common questions about Raptor 700 reliability.

    i put a seat cover, handguards, front bumper, rear bumper, gas cap, and i switched to 22 inches rear tires. CST ambush. i am not going to give it more power. i do extremely long rides on the provincial atv trail network of quebec and i need all the reliability i can get. trails are not always nice. 22 tires help with clearance. the 20 tires are good for perfect trails and agressive riding. the warrior 350 came stock with 22 tires on the rear. thats why it was a good trail quad.

    How much better are elka 3’s compared to the “r” shocks?

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  Рік тому

      The R shocks are pretty decent, but the Elka 3s are noticeably better.. I have the Long Travel so there's more suspension stroke wich is naturally going to add capability but Elka also valves and springs the suspension you order to your weight and riding style.. Hard to say exactly how much better they are because that varies by person, but for my weight and the way I like to ride they have been worth the expense

    I recently just bought a 2011 raptor 700r SE and it has and it already has a full true dual Trinity stage 4 pipes, a Trinity programmer, a Trinity high flow intake for power mods and for looks and handling and other misc stuff it has a alba intimidator bumper, a xfr wide grab bar, alba nerf bars, odi Rouge grips, a graphics kit, and an anodised aluminum alba gas cap, what else should I add on first? Should I start with hand guards or should I start with an aluminum skid plate?

    Hey brother awesome videos!! Can you explain what you meant about alba beadlocks? Are you saying they wear out the gbc tire quicker then normal?

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, the Alba Beadlocks are very very heavy.. That combined with the brackets they use to secure the ring to the wheel ends up splitting the sidewalls on the XC Masters fairly easily.. I think the Raptor is probably the only machine that can truly handle the weight of those wheels.. We've tried them LTRs and there's a noticeable reduction in power because they're so heavy.. That's why I just went with DWTs.. If you get a higher quality bead lock like Hyper or Kizer they're not nearly as heavy, but they are much more expensive..

    • @DirtObseXXion

      Thanks! Honestly I don't hear any noise over the sound of the Empire.. I never ran the stock box with the lid off either so I'm not sure what that sounded like... The Big 3 is definitely worth it for the power gains tho, and I think the FCI is the best intake solution.. It's diameter is WAY bigger than the stock intake and it has dramatic of a bend.. Just by looking at you can tell airflow is increased..

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  2 роки тому

      That would be tuff because the R suspension is really good.. The Elkas are definitely better, but mine are long travel so you have to do arms too.. I'd say if you were widening your machine or going with an XC long travel set up like mine it would be worth it.. But if you're talking just doing standard travel Elkas with the stock a-arms, then no that definitely wouldn't be worth it..

    How many hours are on the machine and how many hours do you go between oil changes?

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  2 роки тому +1

      I didn't put an hour meter on it, I should have. I'd estimate it at about 150 hours at 2,000+ miles. I did the first oil change around 10-20hrs and then I do every 6-8 months which is probably every 40-50hrs. The oil always looks great when I change it so I'm going to stick with that interval.
      I did a valve check a few weeks ago and they were spot on, so even at that hourly mark it hasn't needed a valve adjustment. The only maintenance it has needed has been the chain, sprockets, and carrier bearing but I've beat on it pretty good, so those items last longer for some people..

    Any real noticeable increase in stability with the +0.5 A-arms? I was looking at the +2s but would rather not upgrade the rear axle along with it. If I can get a decent boost with the 0.5s I’d rather go that route

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  Рік тому

      Great question and yes there's definitely noticeable difference compared to stock, especially when combined with a slightly wider offset than stock and the LT suspension.. We did a +2 build on another Raptor with a longer axle and that one is definitely more stable but it also loses a little ability to navigate really tight trails.. They're both good for different reasons but I'm super happy with the +.5 and Brian who did the +2 wishes he went the .5 route... Where you're riding most has to factor in a bit, but ultimately yes you do get noticeably more stability with this set up..

      @DSoffroad201 Рік тому

      @@DirtObseXXion how would you feel about keeping the stock suspension with the wider a arms? I have the R model so it’s the upgraded shocks

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  Рік тому +1

      @Daniel Stearns no reason to ditch those R shocks if you don't mind having less travel.. That would work pretty well with the +.5 but if you went +2 I'd definitely do the suspension as well.. Maybe you should start with more wheel offset and see what you think.. That's the most affordable option.. I like the DWTs, but stay away from the Alba beadlocks.. They're very heavy and tend to break sidewalls on inexpensive tires.. We seen them shred lots of GBC XC Masters

      @danielstearns5004 Depends on how you ride.. I think the spring rates are by weight and the specific style will determine the compression.. If you ride all day, I'd recommend going with the recreation.. You can always add preload and compression if it feels too soft... You're gonna get higher performing shocks no matter what.. But going with recreation is going to be more comfortable.. Racier suspension is designed for repeated big hits and shorter shorter sessions

      Raptors are great! 16 and up it doesn't really matter which year you get they're all the same.. Im not sure what the gas mileage is because there's no odometer or anything on them.. I'd guess you'd get around 60 miles to a tank maybe a little more.. They only hold 2-3 gallons so range won't be crazy good.. Ours having the intake, exhaust, and fuel mapping will get much less miles to a tank than they would stock..

    Thank you for this video! I do however have a question. Our Suzuki quad sport z250 (2007) goes unbelievably well and is great all around yet it rides super rough. It rides really rough at all speeds with all bumps. We have been looking for suspension however I’ve been trying to find a suspension made for it. Could you help? 🤞🤞🤞 Also i was thinking about putting marshmallow grips on it too. What would you recommend to make it ride better?

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  Рік тому +1

      Honestly I don't think suspension is going to make a huge difference for you.. In order for the suspension travel to have enough stroke to make it more comfortable, you'd probably want longer travel which means new arms and potentially a new rear axle if the arms are much wider than the rear.. On a 15yr old entry level quad, I don't think it's worth the investment.. You could try a steering stabilizer and shock and vibe steering stem, there's also some bar clamps have the ability to absorb some of the chop.. All of those things are expensive but they're cheaper than shocks and probably help just as much.. The problem I see with it, is there's no return on investment if it doesn't improve the ride for you.. And after putting that much money into it, you may end up wishing that you just upgraded to another quad.. All that said, several companies would build you custom suspension or revalve the shocks already on it.. But I think it's more about suspension geometry on a quad like that than it is bad shocks.. If you still want a sport quad, several options will give you a better out of the box ride, like a z400 or kfx400.. But all sport quads ride rougher than 4x4s..

      @Ethan Norton Yep! I love them, I have them on my Grizzly.. Are you anywhere near KY? I have a set of those on ITP wheels to sell or a set CST take offs on stock KingQuad wheels.. Both sets are practically new but I'm about to sell the Grizzly so I can get something else to review

      If you're gonna run em on a Raptor the weight won't be too terrible.. But I definitely recommend a tire other than XC masters on those wheels.. We've seen that combo fail quite a few times...

      @@jaysimms2648 Yeah the CST Pulses we are running work great on the Raptor.. Im not a fan of the Obors, the tread depth is about 50% of what they should be so a Raptor will spin em pretty good and they won't last long.. We tried them, they're okfor a 400 maybe a 450.. The Viking did one race on them and swapped out for GBC Groundbusters

    Dude, you should test the Polaris outlaw 525 IRS. Apparently it’s a great trail bike!

      @DirtObseXXion  2 роки тому

      Maybe one day!.. The best part about sport quads is the solid axle though.. We did the Outlaw 525S a few vids back..

    • @willhutton1516
      @willhutton1516 2 роки тому

      I think the main thing about IRS on sport quads is the stability and control you have when kicking out the rear. Dirt track did a video on it forever ago.

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  2 роки тому

      @@willhutton1516 I think that's the main thing you lose personally.. I know Polaris actually did a better job with IRS on a sport machine compared to the Honda 700XX because of the sway bar design.. It was supposed to be more stable than the 700xx (which I've seen dudes wreck trying to ride with the rest of us on solid axles). But having a solid rear axle definitely provides more stability at higher speed sweeping corners because the back end is kept level. IRS allows the outer rear wheel to search independently for traction, so when it grabs it can throw you, hence the sway bar.. I would definitely say IRS will make for a more comfortable ride and definitely better ground clearance. But as with all things there is a trade off.. If it was truly better it would have stuck around and GNCC racers would have liked it. But it didn't catch on because the advantages that made it more terrain-able for trails (ground clearance ect..), but not as fast (added weight, less ability to spin through corners).. That's my 2 cents.. But I'd still love to test one! And I have definitely seen that DT vid!!!

      @@DirtObseXXion yeah! I’ve actually seen a 700xx at my local public motocross track. (Doug dunaway memorial motocross track. Harrison, OH). Guy said he’s done some mods on it so it doesn’t flip him in the corners.

      Yamaha and Honda could get back into the 4x4 sport quads and make some actual competition to Polaris and can-am. Granted, you’ll have to pay an arm and a leg tho!😂. CFMoto I can see making a cheap 400ex clone with the engine from their 400 utility quad. Apparently they are an engine manufacturer for KTM motorcycles.
