I think Bonac faded a little bit in the finals compared to the prejudging. He is still well conditioned but I don't see the sharp cuts and separation on him like with Phil and Dex. He still looks amazing and third is a major achievement, his fans should be elated with that
I thought he was one of the most conditioned. But I will say this... Bonac was too dark. I actually lost a lot of detail in the shadows. Mind you, I don't think the stream was HD.

Classic Physique was pretty awesome this year. Those guys are like the reincarnation of the 80s and early 90s aesthetic physiques! I think that's the future for bodybuilding (at least the most marketable for the mainstream) if they ever start giving it more fair coverage and prize money.

The thing with Dexter is that he's not very competitive in the lower body. His legs are lagging well behind the top 3 guys, especially from the front, yet hardly anybody ever knocks him for that. His upper body, particularly his back, is right up there with Phil's though.

I agree with you, the most complete bodybuilder is winning, not the biggest, or the heaviest or widest; you need the right proportions, simmetry, muscle density, details, separations, conditioning, vascularity, skin quality, and less weak points than the other bodybuilders on stage! This is why Phil is winning every year, because every year is bringing on stage a better package, he is more complete than the others and has less weak points ;) If we wanna speak about robbery, maybe we should go back to the Olympia in 1993-94 and 1997, when Ray, Kevin and El Sonbaty were robbed by Dorian.

All the top guys looked great Phil's only issue was the stomach same for Shawn Brandon should have been higher in 2017 though he compared very well with the top 6.
Why's so many people mad? Even if Ramy was close to Phil or a few points higher in the front poses because of Phil's gut, Phil had him hands down in shape and hardness in the rear. The half the body. Ramy only needs to be a bit harder and bring up the calves if you want to bring up total proportion. Bodybuilding is a subjective pageant. Judges criteria will anyways be subjective. There are no universal facts that determine who wins. It's all opinion as well as mine and everyone's comments here. Years from now the standards will change because it's a pageant determined by different people's likes and dislikes.
I was in Vegas for the prejudging and finals. Phil won it straight up! I personally liked Bonac as 2nd place. Ramy is too blocky looking and was too smooth.
LUI Fanboys are so annoying, yes Phil had a gut problem, but he still smoked it from the back, and to dethrone the champ, you need to be BETTER than them, not close to, like Ramy was.

Yeah I might. It's pretty simple though, he just mistimed it. Came in way too soft and watery. Still, I think for his shape and size and overall development, he should've taken 9th ahead of Lenartowicz who looked good from the front but super smooth from the back.
hmmmmmmm, I think that you are really ignoring the fact that both Phil and Dexter had the super gut in all of the poses outside of the back of course. I do know you stated that Dexter had a big gut in one of those poses but come on. On that note, Ramy also had a gut but not as severe. Bonac was the only guy without a gut. Front double bicep you can see the gut form both dexter and phil (please do not ignore it). For the fornt lat spread the same thing, there is a gut. Just because the hands are blocking most of the gut, you can see the roundness, if you look close(this is on both Dexter and Phil). Now for the side chest pose, it is obvious for both Dexter and Phil. They have massive guts. Although you indicate this, I do not know why you are not dinging them for it. Now the reason that Ramy is not showing his width is because he would have a small gut as well (no where near Dexter and Phil though). Ramy actually looked far better because of the way he held the pose. (And just a side note Bonac looks great sorry). Now for the back double bicep Phil smokes everyone period. For the back lat spread it is much closer, as it is called the back lat spread, ramy has the biggest spread. I still think Phil got this pose though. Dexter idk, something is off, probably the fact that he is standing a very narrow stance is the reason this makes his legs look smaller. And lastly What is wrong with Bonac? For side tricep the bubble gut is showing for three of them going from left to right in severity. Bonac looks perfect, he won this one by a long shot. Dexter is completely off and Ramy and Phil are close. I think it's based on how much you ding phil on that massive gut. For ab and thighs the gut is apparent with Phil. What are you looking at? Dexter has one too but he has a very thin waist so it is less apparent (might be the angle). Ramy does look very blocky. Phil does too, however he has this bubble gut as well as much smaller legs than Ramy. And lastly what did Bonac ever do to you? He looks solid. For the most muscular poses Super guts from both Phil and Dexter. You indicate the lack of symetry for Phil but his gut is massive. Also for Dexter. Ramy does not show his Gut. Period. And for these poses Bonac gets dwarfed. As I was watching this video I felt it necessary to write this response because of how blind you are to the gut. Every single pose outside of the back Phil and Dexter showed their massive guts and you have only indicated it for one of the poses. And only for one of those poses Phil clearly won. Please reassess the value of the the gut because you have virtually ignored it. I think that this was actually a contest between Bonac and Ramy. I really liked Bonac, because he literally has no gut and he has good conditioning. Was not dwarfed for the majority of the poses. But because Ramy has a lot of size, I think of the judges were unbiased, they would have picked Ramy. If you think that the gut should not be a big and that the judges do not look at that. I will give you precedent. Shawn Rhoden in 2015 was dinged because of his gut. If the gut is ignored than he smoked Phil. (edit: maybe not, but he would have done better). I hear your points but I think this obsession with the gut is a bit excessive. I agree, it's a major flaw and guys should be dinged for it. But it is _one_ body part! This also isn't a new phenomenon. Bubble guts have been around at least since the early 2000s during most of Ronnie's reign. And when it's not a pregnant belly winning, it's usually a bloated blocky waist a la Cutler or Dorian, hardly much better. So yeah, many guys in the open class have them, in fact, virtually ALL of them do. It's just a matter of who can keep it in check the most as they pose. It's not ideal, I don't like it either, but unfortunately it's the price for these guys getting so big and you can't dismiss everything else because the midsection isn't perfect. That's almost as silly as writing a guy off completely for having bad calves.

As far as i see it, Ramy needs more cuts to his legs. IMO his thighs are proportionate to his body but he has no real split in his quads. Also his back needs more detail. Ramy doesnt need ANY more size, he excels in that. He needs to create detail and learn to come in conditioned
If next year Ramy can come in with a more aesthetic look...trimming down on his outer quads, bringing his calves up...*and* manages better conditioning, then he'll be hard to beat.

Hmm can't remember what I said in this video but looking at it now it's very close. Ramy's bigger like you said and supremely so through the chest, but Phil's got deeper separation and more detail. It could very well go to Ramy but not from this look, in fact I might even put Dex ahead of him too for the same reasons.
You should not be able to win the biggest bodybuild competition with a pregnant gut plus with a damn hernia! That sends out the wrong message, very simple! Ramy has 30-40 pounds on Phil and he can still come in with a good midsection. Next year we will see the shift everyone has waiting for 100%. This year was close and Ramy will be a lot better next year, Phil will probably look more or less the same plus Ramy will win everything up to the 2018 Olympia so he will have all the momentum behind him for next years Mr. Olympia!
Despite making my case for defending Phil and the judges decision here, I can totally sympathize with your point and can't really argue with that. The distention is bad enough but that herniated belly button is unforgivable. He needs to get it surgically repaired asap
Based on the current criteria, sure Phil deserved the win. BUT that is the problem, the criteria is pure shit. It should be: less conditioning>distended gut. A poor conditioning still looks good compared to a bubble gut. With this kind of judging even Big Lenny would win if comes in good condition.

'93 was Dorian's best year. No robbery there.
Ramy was 3rd after prejudging. He wasn't as close to Phil as has been assumed. He was fighting with Bonac.

Ramy only needs to be a bit harder and bring up the calves if you want to bring up total proportion.
Bodybuilding is a subjective pageant. Judges criteria will anyways be subjective. There are no universal facts that determine who wins. It's all opinion as well as mine and everyone's comments here. Years from now the standards will change because it's a pageant determined by different people's likes and dislikes.

I was in Vegas for the prejudging and finals. Phil won it straight up! I personally liked Bonac as 2nd place. Ramy is too blocky looking and was too smooth.
LUI Fanboys are so annoying, yes Phil had a gut problem, but he still smoked it from the back, and to dethrone the champ, you need to be BETTER than them, not close to, like Ramy was.

i don't mean disrespect, what I see is big, huge guys that are deforming themselves, this sport should be about proportion aesthetics, natural beauty. to obtain such results they have perfected a mix of anabolic and stimulants that make this sport too unnatural to me.
I don't think the quality was as good as previous years. Conditioning. Detail. Proportion. Symmetry. Bubble gut. Just my opinion.

Yeah I might. It's pretty simple though, he just mistimed it. Came in way too soft and watery. Still, I think for his shape and size and overall development, he should've taken 9th ahead of Lenartowicz who looked good from the front but super smooth from the back.

hmmmmmmm, I think that you are really ignoring the fact that both Phil and Dexter had the super gut in all of the poses outside of the back of course. I do know you stated that Dexter had a big gut in one of those poses but come on. On that note, Ramy also had a gut but not as severe. Bonac was the only guy without a gut.
Front double bicep you can see the gut form both dexter and phil (please do not ignore it). For the fornt lat spread the same thing, there is a gut. Just because the hands are blocking most of the gut, you can see the roundness, if you look close(this is on both Dexter and Phil). Now for the side chest pose, it is obvious for both Dexter and Phil. They have massive guts. Although you indicate this, I do not know why you are not dinging them for it. Now the reason that Ramy is not showing his width is because he would have a small gut as well (no where near Dexter and Phil though). Ramy actually looked far better because of the way he held the pose. (And just a side note Bonac looks great sorry).
Now for the back double bicep Phil smokes everyone period. For the back lat spread it is much closer, as it is called the back lat spread, ramy has the biggest spread. I still think Phil got this pose though. Dexter idk, something is off, probably the fact that he is standing a very narrow stance is the reason this makes his legs look smaller. And lastly What is wrong with Bonac?
For side tricep the bubble gut is showing for three of them going from left to right in severity. Bonac looks perfect, he won this one by a long shot. Dexter is completely off and Ramy and Phil are close. I think it's based on how much you ding phil on that massive gut.
For ab and thighs the gut is apparent with Phil. What are you looking at? Dexter has one too but he has a very thin waist so it is less apparent (might be the angle). Ramy does look very blocky. Phil does too, however he has this bubble gut as well as much smaller legs than Ramy. And lastly what did Bonac ever do to you? He looks solid.
For the most muscular poses Super guts from both Phil and Dexter. You indicate the lack of symetry for Phil but his gut is massive. Also for Dexter. Ramy does not show his Gut. Period. And for these poses Bonac gets dwarfed.
As I was watching this video I felt it necessary to write this response because of how blind you are to the gut. Every single pose outside of the back Phil and Dexter showed their massive guts and you have only indicated it for one of the poses. And only for one of those poses Phil clearly won. Please reassess the value of the the gut because you have virtually ignored it.
I think that this was actually a contest between Bonac and Ramy. I really liked Bonac, because he literally has no gut and he has good conditioning. Was not dwarfed for the majority of the poses. But because Ramy has a lot of size, I think of the judges were unbiased, they would have picked Ramy. If you think that the gut should not be a big and that the judges do not look at that. I will give you precedent. Shawn Rhoden in 2015 was dinged because of his gut. If the gut is ignored than he smoked Phil. (edit: maybe not, but he would have done better). I hear your points but I think this obsession with the gut is a bit excessive. I agree, it's a major flaw and guys should be dinged for it. But it is _one_ body part! This also isn't a new phenomenon. Bubble guts have been around at least since the early 2000s during most of Ronnie's reign. And when it's not a pregnant belly winning, it's usually a bloated blocky waist a la Cutler or Dorian, hardly much better.
So yeah, many guys in the open class have them, in fact, virtually ALL of them do. It's just a matter of who can keep it in check the most as they pose. It's not ideal, I don't like it either, but unfortunately it's the price for these guys getting so big and you can't dismiss everything else because the midsection isn't perfect. That's almost as silly as writing a guy off completely for having bad calves.

As far as i see it, Ramy needs more cuts to his legs. IMO his thighs are proportionate to his body but he has no real split in his quads. Also his back needs more detail. Ramy doesnt need ANY more size, he excels in that. He needs to create detail and learn to come in conditioned

Hmm can't remember what I said in this video but looking at it now it's very close. Ramy's bigger like you said and supremely so through the chest, but Phil's got deeper separation and more detail. It could very well go to Ramy but not from this look, in fact I might even put Dex ahead of him too for the same reasons.

You should not be able to win the biggest bodybuild competition with a pregnant gut plus with a damn hernia! That sends out the wrong message, very simple! Ramy has 30-40 pounds on Phil and he can still come in with a good midsection. Next year we will see the shift everyone has waiting for 100%. This year was close and Ramy will be a lot better next year, Phil will probably look more or less the same plus Ramy will win everything up to the 2018 Olympia so he will have all the momentum behind him for next years Mr. Olympia!

Based on the current criteria, sure Phil deserved the win. BUT that is the problem, the criteria is pure shit. It should be: less conditioning>distended gut. A poor conditioning still looks good compared to a bubble gut. With this kind of judging even Big Lenny would win if comes in good condition.
